(06/035) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 2, 2020 that, 3 prisoners in Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison were forced to be in handcuffs during medical examination in prison infirmary; and they were nor examined for they reject this. It is also stated in the news reports that Merve Aydoğan, a prisoner who had visual impairment, was not referred to hospital. 

(06/036) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the declaration on 7th anniversary of Gezi Park protests, in Tuzluçayır neighbourhood of Mamak district of Ankara on June 2, 2020; and detained at least 10 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained people are: Murat Can Çoban, Hasan Altun, Sibel Göktaş, Zarife Çamalan, Hüseyin Gencay, Orhan Ünlü, Ferhat Kara, Çağla Çakır, Songül Doğan, Newroz Gülen.

(06/037) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police, on the grounds of Kadıköy Sub-Governorate’s ban, prevented the press declaration of several organisations in Kadıköy district of June 2, 2020; which was held to protest police violence during Covid-19 pandemic, and detained 19 people by using physical violence. Detained people are: Burak Aktaş, Batuhan Çotur, Zeynel Çuhadar, Meltem Çuhadar, Şeyma Çopur, Ahmet Bay, İlyas Seyrek, Atakan Polat, Emircan Kunuk, Alev Özkiraz, Nergis Şen, Deniz Bahçeci, Neslihan Duran, Nazlı Yöyler, Hivda Seven, Özge Doğan, Mısra Sapan, Elif Karakaya, İbrahim Hakkı Eren.

(06/038) Police Intervention to a Protest in Van…

The police, on the grounds of governorate’s ruling, prevented the press declaration of Language, Culture and Art Research Association (DİSA-DER) in Van, on June 2, 2020, to protest the assault against Barış Çakan in Ankara, which killed him on June 1, 2020. It is learned that the police threatened journalists to detain them.

(06/039) Police Intervention to a Protest in Diyarbakır…

The police prevented the press declaration of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Diyarbakır, on June 2, 2020, to protest the assault against Barış Çakan in Ankara, which killed him on June 1, 2020.

(06/040) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1302 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 2, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/041) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On June 2, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/042) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the press declaration at Abdullah Cömert Park in Samandağ district of Hatay on June 2, 2020, about Edibe Özçelik who had a heart attack when her house was raided by the police in Samandağ district of Hatay and who died on January 20, 2020; and detained 1 person (Ümit Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained person was released on the same day.

(06/043) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police, on the grounds of lack of governorate’s allowance, intervened the press declaration of Health and Social Service Employees Union (SES), in front of Directorate of Family, Labor and Social Services in Ankara on June 2, 2020; to protest relegation of 3 members of SES union. It is learned that nobody was detained; the police prevented journalists from recording the intervention.

(06/044) Arrested CHP Executive in Adana…

Eren Yıldırım, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Yüreğir district Youth branch chair, who was subjected to physical violence with his family, after a dispute with the security guard of sub-governor of Yüreğir district of Adana; and who was then arrested by the court on May 17, 2020; is released from prison by the court on June 2, 2020.

(06/045) Co-Mayors on Trial in Mardin…

The first trial of the case against Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, HDP co-mayor of Kızıltepe district; and Gülistan Öncü, HDP co-mayor of Savur district, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 2, 2020.

Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz and Gülistan Öncü joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system.

After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz and Gülistan Öncü and adjourned the trial to August 11, 2020.

Ministry of Interior appointed sub-governors as trustees to Kızıltepe (on November 4, 2019) and to Savur (November 16, 2019). Gülistan Öncü was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was detained on December 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 16, 2019.

(06/046) Threats Against Hrant Dink Foundation…

  1. B., the person who is detained in Istanbul on May 31, 2020, in relation to the second threatening message which was sent to Hrant Dink foundation, is arrested by the court on June 2, 2020.

Another person (H. A.) who has been detained in relation to threatening messages in Selçuklu district of Konya on May 30, 2020, has been arrested by the court on May 31, 2020.

(06/047) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 2, 2020, 72 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 35 cities through an Istanbul based investigation; and 5 people are detained in Kayseri.

(06/048) Ban of Event in Istanbul…

It is learned that on June 2, 2020, Istanbul Governorate did not allow the concert of Grup Yorum band, which was to be held at Istanbul Yenikapı Meeting Area on August 9, 2020.

(06/049) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 22 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 786 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 2, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,585 and total number of confirmed cases is 165,555 as of June 2, 2020.

It is learned from data shared by Ankara Chamber of Medicine on June 2, 2020 that 391 health workers including 155 staff physicians, 42 medical assistants, 10 medical secretaries, 4 dentists, 1 occupational physician, 56 nurses, 26 emergency medical technicians, 7 kitchen workers, 3 security staff, 1 pharmacist, 47 cleaning workers, 25 primary care physicians, 6 administrative officers, 2 x-ray technicians in Ankara tested positive for Covid-19.
