(10/013) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 1, 2019 that, 2 HPG militants died in an air operation to rural areas of Şırnak on September 28, 2019; 3 HPG militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Ömerli district of Mardin on September 7, 2019.

(10/014) Armed Conflict in Eskişehir…

It is learned that 2 people (Ozan Sökmen and Fırat Şeran), reported as MLKP militants, died and 2 police officers got wounded in a clash during the operation of special operation force to a house in Eskişehir on October 1, 2019. It is reported that the operation was related to the bombing attack to a riot squad bus in Yüreğir district of Adana on August 25, 2019.

(10/015) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 1, 2019 that, 25 political prisoners in Giresun E Type Prison were transferred to Giresun Espiye L Type Prison under coercion. It is reported that 3 of those prisoners were put in solitary cells.

(10/016) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1057 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on October 1, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on October 1, 2019, 2 people (Derviş Lermi and Acun Karadağ) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Merve Demirel) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on October 1, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(10/017) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Community Houses members on October 1, 2019 in Mamak district of Ankara to protest a traffic accident that killed 4 people. It is learned that nobody was detained due to the police intervention which was based on governorate’s ban.

(10/018) Detained Human Rights Defender and Political Party Executives in Tunceli…

Human Rights Association (IHD) Tunceli branch chair Gürbüz Solmaz, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) provincial co-chairs Hıdır Çiçek and Özlem Toprak, HDP executive Yunus Aras and district council member Nurgül Yalay who were detained in Tunceli are released by the court on judicial control conditions on October 1, 2019.

On October 1, 2019, 4 people including Labour Party (EMEP) district executive Pakize Aydın and HDP district executive Celal Aydın are detained in house raids in Mazgirt district of Tunceli.

(10/020) Detained Political Party Executives in Istanbul and Izmir…

On October 1, 2019, 4 people including 2 executives are detained in operations in Istanbul and Izmir through an investigation on Revolutionary Party. Central executive board member Hüseyin Yıldırım, DEV-GÜÇ (Revolutionary Youth) central executive board member Başak Yeşilot and Can Çıldır are detained in Istanbul, party assembly member Vural Köse is detained in Izmir.

(10/021) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against Osman Akın, former chief editor of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, for news reports published, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 is held on October 1, 2019. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to January 9, 2020.

(10/022) HDP Executives and Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 12 members and executives of HDP including former Istanbul co-chair Doğan Erbaş is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 on October 1, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for defendants on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to January 30, 2020.

(10/023) Director Kazım Öz on Trial…

The first trial of the case against director Kazım Öz on Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 2 on October 1, 2019. The indictment demands jail penalty up to 15 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court adjourned the trial to February 4, 2020.

(10/024) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On October 1, 2019, 36 people are detained in operations covering 18 cities through a Konya based investigation; 9 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 11 cities through an Ankara based investigation against Turkish Air Force personnel; 10 people including military members are detained through a Kocaeli based investigation and 11 military doctors are detained through an Istanbul based investigation.

(10/025) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against Bülent Kılınç, former member of Council of State is held at Penal Department No 9 of the Supreme Court on October 1, 2019. The court sentenced the defendant to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Mahmut Akkoyun, former judge of the Supreme Court is held at Penal Department No 9 of the Supreme Court on October 1, 2019. The court sentenced the defendant to 6 years and 3 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 1, 2019 that, Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office submitted proceedings demanding lift of impunity of HDP Hakkari MP and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven for her speech about trustee appointment to Diyarbakır Municipality.

(10/027) Ban of Events in Şırnak…

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on October 1, 2019 and announced that all open-door events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of October 1, 2019. This is the second time of governorate ban on events for 15 days in Şırnak, after trustee appointment to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 1, 2019 that march of Mardin Şahmaran Women’s Platform before the trial of police officer E. U. on the charge of sexual abuse, is banned on the grounds of governorate interdict.
