(04/017) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2020 that 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı on March 31, 2020.

(04/018) Child Got Injured in Explosion in Diyarbakır…

On March 31, 2020, a child named Y. Y. (m, 11 years old) got heavily injured due to explosion of a material he found in rural areas of Serin village of Lice district of Diyarbakır; the child is taken to intensive care unit at Dicle University Hospital.

(04/019) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2020 that in Urfa Hilvan T Type Prison 18 people are kept in wards for 14 people; and 4 prisoners have to sleep on floors; and that wardens do not wear masks and gloves during searches, and prisoners are not given cleaning supplies and disinfectants despite of Covid-19 pandemic.

It is claimed in the news coverage of April 1, 2020 that, prisoners are not provided water for 3 days in Ordu E Type Prison and the water given afterwards is muddy.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2020 that, 2 prisoners (Şadiye Yanık and Halime Cin) in Şırnak T Type Prison, were forced to be medically examined in handcuffs. It is reported that 2 prisoners rejected to be medically examined in handcuffs and were threatened by wardens saying “We will not take you to hospital even if you die”.

(04/021) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1240 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 1, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(04/022) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The first trial of the case against Mülkiye Esmez, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-mayor of Derik district of Mardin, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 1, 2020.

After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Mülkiye Esmez and adjourned the trial to June 17, 2020.

Mülkiye Esmez was detained on November 25, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Derik Municipality on November 16, 2019.

(04/023) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 63 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,148 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 1, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 277 and total number of confirmed cases is 15,679 as of April 1, 2020.
