(09/041) Racist Attack in Bursa…

According to news reports published on 8 September 2026, it emerged that on 5 September 2026, nine Kurdish workers employed in the fig harvest in Fadili Village, part of the Nilüfer district of Bursa, were attacked by a racist group on the grounds that they were wearing Amedspor shirts, and sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies. The names of those subjected to the racist attack are: Faruk Bağcı, Caner Binen, Muhammednur Binen, Barış Burakmak, Mevlüt Kemaloğlu, Ömer Bağcı, Hasan Benz, Taner Binen, Yusuf Bağcı.

(09/042) Person Subjected to a Racist Attack in Diyarbakır…

According to news reports published on 8 September 2026, it was reported that on 5 September 2026, an electrician who had gone to a military barracks in Diyarbakır to provide technical services was subjected to a racist attack on the grounds that he was wearing an Amedspor shirt and sustained injuries to various parts of his body.

(09/043) The Trial of the Mayor…

The trial of 19 individuals, including Bolu Mayor Tanju Özkan, which was brought before the Bolu Heavy Penal Court No. 3, continued on 7 September 2026. The indictment seeks the prosecution of the 19 individuals on charges of ‘extortion’, ‘aggravated fraud’ and ‘bribery’. The court ruled that Tanju Özcan’s detention should continue and adjourned the hearing until 19 October 2026.

Tanju Özcan was arrested on 2 March 2026 and suspended from office by the Ministry of the Interior on 3 March 2026.

(09/044) The Trial of a Journalist in Diyarbakır…

The retrial of the case brought against Mehmet Şahin, a writer for the Xwebûn newspaper, at the Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 resumed on 8 September 2026. The indictment seeks the journalist’s conviction on the charge of ‘being a member of an organisation’. The court adjourned the hearing until 24 November 2026.

At the sentencing hearing held on 10 February 2022 in the case brought against journalist Mehmet Şahin at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court, the court had ruled that the journalist should be sentenced to 6 years and 3 months’ imprisonment on the charge of “membership of an organisation”; this decision was subsequently overturned by the 9th Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal.

(09/045 Political Party Official Under Investigation…

It has emerged that the Istanbul Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Gürdal Çıngı, a member of the Presidium of the People’s Liberation Party (HKP), on the grounds of ‘incitement to commit a crime’, citing social media posts relating to the NATO Summit held in Ankara. It has been reported that Gürdal Çıngı gave a statement on 7 September 2026 as part of the investigation.

(09/046) Trial Opened in Istanbul Against a Retired Officer…

The trial of retired Rear Admiral Türker Ertürk, initiated at the Istanbul Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance No. 5 on the grounds of a social media post he made, commenced on 8 September 2026. The indictment seeks the prosecution of Türker Ertürk on charges of “threats” and “incitement to commit a crime”. The court ruled that Türker Ertürk should remain in custody and adjourned the hearing until 5 October 2026.

Türker Ertürk had been arrested on 17 August 2026.

(09/047) Social Media Accounts Blocked…

According to press reports on 73 September 2026, it emerged that access to journalist Rabia Önveri’s X social media account had been blocked.
