(09/031) Person Killed in a House Raid in Istanbul…
It has been reported that Berkan Ç. (21), described as an ISIS member, was killed during a clash that broke out at a house raid carried out in the Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul on 4 September 2026. It was also reported that another civilian, whose name could not be established, who was present at the scene during the same clash, was injured and later died in hospital.
(09/032) Investigation into Bolu Municipality…
Of the 22 people detained as part of an investigation into Bolu Municipality, seven – including Mayor Tanju Özcan – were remanded in custody by the magistrates’ court on 5 September 2026, whilst 15 were released subject to judicial supervision.
(09/033) Individuals Detained in Istanbul…
Three people, including Deputy Mayor Amine Cansu Çelik, who were detained as part of an investigation into the Üsküdar District Municipality in Istanbul, were arrested by the magistrates’ court to which they were referred on 5 September 2026.
(09/034) Individuals Detained in Istanbul…
As part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 12 people were detained on 3 September 2026; of these, six – including Üsküdar Municipal Councillor Ekrem Baki – were arrested by the Istanbul Criminal Court of Peace No. 7 to which they were referred on 7 September 2026, whilst the remaining six were released subject to judicial supervision.
The names of those remanded in custody are: Abdulkerim Hazırbaba, Ekrem Baki, Mustafa Delipoyraz, Talha Özyurt, Mustafa Sökmen and Vedat Taşdelen.
(09/035) Trade Union Leaders Remanded in Custody…
It has been reported that Gökay Çayır, General Secretary of the Independent Miners’ Union, and Başaran Aksu, Organising Co-ordinator, who were arrested on 26 August 2026 on charges of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility”, were released on 4 September 2026 following the acceptance of their lawyers’ appeal against their detention.
(09/036) Individuals Detained as Part of an Investigation Centred in Diyarbakır…
As part of an investigation launched into mass commemorations held for militants who lost their lives in clashes on various dates, nine people detained in Diyarbakır on 3 September 2026 on charges of “spreading organisational propaganda” were released on 5 September 2026 by the magistrates’ court to which they were referred, subject to judicial supervision.
(09/037) The Trial in Istanbul Involving the Mayor and Others…
The trial, brought before the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 27 against 31 individuals, including Hasan Akgün, the Mayor of Büyükçekmece in Istanbul, continued on 3–4 September 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of the 31 individuals on charges of “establishing and leading a criminal organisation for profit”, “accepting bribes”, “extortion” and “laundering assets derived from criminal activity”. The court ruled that the detention of five individuals, including Hasan Akgün, should continue and adjourned the hearing until 16 November 2026.
Mayor Hasan Akgün was arrested on 3 June 2025 and suspended from office by the Ministry of the Interior on the same day.
(09/038) The Trial of the Comedian…
According to news reports on 5 September 2026, it was revealed that the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against comedian Deniz Göktaş, on the grounds of certain remarks made during his performance, had been accepted by the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 14. The indictment seeks the prosecution of Deniz Göktaş on charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘inciting the public to hatred and hostility’. The first hearing in the case is scheduled for 28 September 2026.
Deniz Göktaş was arrested on 3 July 2026.
(09/039) Racist Attack on an Association in Tekirdağ…
It has been reported that on 7 September 2026, an armed attack was carried out on the premises of the Mesopotamians Language and Culture Research and Development Association, which operates in the fields of the Kurdish language and Kurdish culture, in the Çerkezköy district of Tekirdağ. It was reported that one person had been detained in connection with the attack, which caused material damage to the building.
(09/040) Social Media Accounts Blocked…
According to press reports on 4 September 2026, it was revealed that access to journalist Erk Acarer’s X social media account had been blocked.
In a statement made on 4 September 2026 by Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications at the Presidency, it was stated that a total of 2,034 social media accounts had been blocked over the past two months.
