(08/021) Police Intervention at a Protest in Ankara…

It was reported that on August 5, 2026, police blocked a march that Doruk Mining workers had planned to hold to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding their unpaid wages and compensation claims.

(08/022) Journalist Under Investigation in Istanbul…

Journalist Can Bursalı, who gave a statement to the prosecutor’s office on August 4, 2026, as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office based on his news reports and social media posts, was released by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, subject to judicial control measures including a ban on leaving the country and an obligation to sign in regularly.

Journalist Tahir Sarıkaya, who was detained on August 3, 2026, as part of the “Cem Küçük” investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested on August 4, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, on charges of “blackmail.”

As part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office targeting the Avcılar Municipality, 12 people were detained on August 5, 2026, on charges of “causing public harm” during simultaneous operations carried out in four provinces (Istanbul, Ankara, Balıkesir, Bitlis).

As part of an investigation into the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, on August 5, 2026, Hür Ağbaba—the older brother of Veli Ağbaba, a Member of Parliament from the New Party representing Malatya—and one other person were detained on allegations of “corruption.”

(08/026) Social Media Account Blocked…

According to news reports on June 4, 2026, it was learned that access to journalist Can Bursalı’s X social media account had been blocked.
