(07/084) Labor Killings.

In a statement issued by the Council for Occupational Health and Safety (İSİG), it was reported that in June 2026, at least 228 workers lost their lives while on the job, including 10 women, 14 refugees/migrants, and 6 children.

(07/085) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

According to news reports published on July 13, 2026, Mehmet Şimşek, a member of the Revolutionary Youth Associations (DGD) who was arrested in Antalya ahead of the NATO Summit, was subjected to physical violence by prison guards at the entrance to Antalya S-Type Prison.

According to news reports on July 14, 2026, it was learned that a copy of the magazine *Democratic Modernity*, sent to an inmate named Kenan Avcı held at Ankara Sincan No. 2 High-Security Prison, was not delivered to him on the grounds that it “defended the organization’s ideological concepts and contained statements proposing an anti-state political model.”

(07/086) The Trial in Istanbul Involving the Mayor and Others…

The trial, initiated at the Istanbul Anatolia 17th Heavy Penal Court against 26 individuals—including Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, three of whom are in custody—continued on July 13, 2026. The indictment seeks to punish the 26 individuals for the crimes of “bid-rigging,” “aggravated fraud,” and “forgery of official documents.” Following the defense arguments, the court ruled to extend the detention of two individuals (Alaattin Köseler and Veli Gümüş) and to release one individual (Uğur İnci), and adjourned the hearing until October 9, 2026.

Of the 26 people detained, 13 were arrested on March 4, 2025, and Alaattin Köseler was removed from his post by the Ministry of the Interior. Alaattin Köseler had been released at the first hearing of the case on September 5, 2025, but was re-arrested following an appeal by the prosecution.

(07/087) The Trial of a Comedian in Istanbul…

The final hearing in the case against comedian Tuba Ulu—filed in the Istanbul 13th Criminal Court of First Instance on the grounds of a joke she made about Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent during a performance—was held on July 14, 2026. The court sentenced Tuba Ulu to five months in prison for the crime of “publicly insulting a segment of the population” and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(07/088) The Trial of the Cartoonist…

The trial of cartoonist Doğan Pehlevan, initiated at the Istanbul 36th Criminal Court of First Instance on the grounds of his social media posts, continued on July 14, 2026. The indictment seeks to punish Doğan Pehlevan for the crime of “insulting the President.” The court ruled to maintain the judicial control measures against Doğan Pehlevan and adjourned the hearing until October 6, 2026.

Doğan Pehlevan was arrested on July 4, 2025, and released on November 18, 2025.

According to news reports on July 13, 2026, it was learned that access to journalist Öznur Değer’s X social media account had been blocked.
