According to Bianet’s “Male Violence Register,” at least 28 women and 1 child were killed by men across Turkey in April 2026. The report also noted that men subjected at least 50 women to violence, harassed 20 women, abused 15 children, and forced 184 women into sex work.

According to a statement by the Council for Occupational Health and Safety (İSİG), at least 189 workers lost their lives while on the job in April 2026, including 14 women, 3refugees/migrants, and 8 children.

According to news reports on May 7, 2026, it was learned that Mehmet Salih Filiz, an inmate held at the İzmir Buca High-Security Prison, was subjected to physical violence by on-duty gendarmes after he objected to being forced to undergo a medical examination while handcuffed at the hospital to which he was taken for an examination. The reports also claimed that the medical report provided to the inmate following his request regarding the physical violence he endured was incomplete.

According to news reports published on May 7, 2026, it was learned that Jiyan Alpsar, a prisoner held at Van T-Type Prison, was denied treatment on the grounds that he refused to accept oral cavity searches and examinations while handcuffed.

According to news reports on May 5, 2026, it was learned that the release of Pınar Tikit, an inmate held at Ankara Sincan F-Type Prison who had completed her prison sentence, was adjourned for six months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds that she “showed no remorse.”

Kadir Dalgıç, a member of the Karabağlar District Municipal Council in İzmir, who was detained on the grounds of social media posts, was arrested on May 6, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, on the charge of “insulting the President.”

Cansel Tuncer, General Secretary of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, who was detained as part of an investigation into the municipality, was arrested by the magistrate’s court on May 6, 2026.

The civil damages lawsuit filed by Bilal Erdoğan against journalist Furkan Karabay continued on May 7, 2026, at the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the hearing until December 17, 2026.

The trial of Swedish citizen journalist Joakim Medin, which was filed at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13, continued on May 7, 2026. The indictment seeks Joakim Medin’s conviction on charges of “membership in an organization” and “propagandizing for an organization.” The court decided to adjourn the hearing until October 1, 2026, pending a response to the request for Joakim Medin’s defense statement.
Joakim Medin was detained at Istanbul Airport on March 27, 2025, arrested on March 28, 2025, and released on May 16, 2025.

On July 19, 2019, Jinnews reporter Derya Ren, along with Aslı Ceren Aslan, Sabiha Ünder, and Zerga Açar, engaged in an argument with prison guards at Urfa No. 2 T-Type Prison, alleging they had been insulted while in custody. The trial, which was filed at the Urfa 4th Criminal Court of First Instance, resumed on May 6, 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of Derya Ren and Aslı Ceren Aslan for “insult” and Sabiha Ünder and Zerga Açar for “intentional assault.” The court adjourned the hearing until December 18, 2026.

According to news reports on May 6, 2026, an investigation was launched against Sezin Uçar, Deputy Co-Chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), on charges of “insulting a public official” due to an article she wrote.

The trial of Abdurrahman Murat and Adnan Şahin, two individuals charged in connection with the death of journalist Hakan Tosun, began on May 6, 2026, at the Istanbul Bakırköy 17th Heavy Penal Court. The indictment seeks their conviction for the crime of “intentional homicide.”
Citing the small size of the courtroom, the court imposed restrictions on those wishing to attend the trial and decided to allow only three lawyers, one member of parliament, one bar association representative, and four journalists into the courtroom. It was reported that police intervened against a group waiting outside the courtroom, which included journalists, life advocates, human rights defenders, and representatives of political parties.
The defendants participated in the hearing via SEGBIS. The court, which ruled to continue the detention of the two defendants, adjourned the hearing to July 8, 2026.

According to news reports published on May 6, 2026, it was reported that the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation decided to dismiss the case regarding the disappearance of Specialist Corporal Bilal Batırır—who is alleged to have provided information to the families of seven individuals, three of whom were children, detained in Dargeçit district of Mardin between October 29, 1995, and March 8, 1996—citing the expiration of the 30-year statute of limitations.

According to news reports published on May 5, 2026, it was learned that access restrictions were imposed on the X social media accounts belonging to the queer feminist collective Demir Leblebi.
According to news reports on May 7, 2026, it was learned that, as part of the efforts by the Mersin Provincial Police Department’s Cybercrime Unit, access was restricted to 89 social media accounts on the grounds that they publicly disseminated misleading information and incited the public to hatred and hostility.
