(05/001) The Person Who Lost Her Life in the School Attack in Maraş…

It was reported that Almina Ağaoğlu (11), a child who was injured in the armed attack carried out by a student at Ayser Çalık Middle School in the Onikişubat district of Maraş on April 15, 2026, lost her life on May 3, 2026, at the hospital where she was receiving treatment. With Almina Ağaoğlu’s death, the number of people who lost their lives as a result of the armed attack has risen to 10.

(05/002) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

According to news reports on May 2, 2026, it was learned that Ali Haydar Ateş, an inmate held at Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) No. 2 L-Type Prison, was transferred to Ankara Sincan Y-Type Prison against his will and without his consent.

(05/003) Restrictions and Interventions Regarding May 1…

According to news reports on April 30, 2026, during operations and home raids related to May 1 in Istanbul, lawyer Gülizar Tuncer’s home was raided by police while she was not present, and during the search, case files and professional documents found in the home were scattered.

According to news reports on April 30, 2026, it was learned that the Ankara Provincial Police Department had banned the entry of newspapers and magazines into the area where the May 1 rally was to be held in Ankara.

According to news reports on May 1, 2026, it was learned that the Şişhane, Taksim, and Osmanbey stations of the M2 metro line, as well as the F1 funicular line and the T3 tram line in Istanbul, were closed to service.

On May 1, 2026, police intervened against people gathering in Mecidiyeköy to march to Taksim in Istanbul, using tear gas, high-pressure water, and physical force.

Police intervened against members of the People’s Liberation Party and the Workers’ and Students’ Union who had gathered in Beşiktaş to march to Taksim in Istanbul, detaining 42 people by handcuffing them behind their backs.

Police intervened in a march organized by the Kaldıraç Movement on the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul on May 1, detaining 46 people.

The Istanbul Branch of the Association of Contemporary Lawyers (ÇHD) announced that 576 people, including Independent Mining Workers’ Union Organizing Specialist Başaran Aksu, 2 journalists, 8 lawyers, and 12 children, were detained during interventions targeting demonstrations across Istanbul on May 1, 2026.

Those detained were released on May 2, 2026, following their interrogations at the police station.

Of the 23 people detained during home raids conducted in Istanbul and Kocaeli on April 28, 2026—including members of various political parties and platforms—14 were arrested by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on May 1, 2026, while 9 were released under house arrest. Meanwhile, 24 others detained as part of the same investigation were released after giving their statements to the police.

It was reported that a march planned by lawyers from the Istanbul Bar Association on April 30, 2026, on Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district to protest the death of lawyer Hatice Kocaefe, who was killed in an attack in Bursa, was blocked by the police.

(05/005) Celebration Blocked in Istanbul…

According to news reports on April 3, 2026, a celebration planned to take place in Taksim Square in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district to mark Amedspor’s promotion to the Super League was blocked by police.

(05/006) Individuals Detained in Antalya…

On April 30, 2026, out of the 32 individuals detained as part of two separate investigations targeting the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, 15 were arrested by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on April 3 and 4, 2026, while 15 others—including two under judicial supervision—were released. Two individuals were released following their statements at the police station.

(05/007) The Trial of the Marmaris Mayor and Others…

The final hearing in the case filed at the Marmaris Criminal Court of First Instance No. 2 against 10 individuals—including Muğla Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü—on the grounds of a protest related to the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was held on April 30, 2026. The court sentenced the 10 individuals to five months in prison for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations (No. 2911)” and postponed the announcement of the verdict.

(05/008) Indictment Prepared Against the Mayor…

It was learned from news reports on April 30, 2026, that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared an indictment against 31 individuals, including Hasan Akgün, the Mayor of Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district.

The indictment seeks the prosecution of the 31 individuals on charges of “establishing and leading a criminal organization for profit,” “accepting bribes,” “extortion,” and “laundering assets derived from criminal activities.”

Hasan Akgün was arrested on June 3, 2025.

(05/009) The Trial of a Party Official in Istanbul…

The trial of Ramazan Yıldız, Chairman of the Adalar District Youth Branch of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 22—initiated on the grounds of social media posts—began on April 30, 2026. The indictment seeks to punish Ramazan Yıldız for the crime of “targeting individuals who have served in the fight against terrorism.” The court ruled to release Ramazan Yıldız and adjourned the hearing to September 22, 2026.

Ramazan Yıldız had been arrested on February 11, 2026.

(05/010) Trial in Istanbul Involving Lawyers and Others…

The trial of 11 individuals, including Attorney Seda Şaraldı, a member of the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD), began on April 30, 2026, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 32. The indictment seeks the conviction of the 11 individuals on charges of “membership in an organization.” The court adjourned the hearing until October 22, 2026.

(05/011) Lawyer Subject to an Investigation…

According to news reports on April 2, 2026, it was learned that the Istanbul Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Tuba Tosun Erdoğdu, the lawyer and wife of Aykut Erdoğdu—a former deputy of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) who is being tried in custody in the case filed against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB)—on the grounds of a statement she made regarding Aykut Erdoğdu’s failure to be released on bail.

(05/012) Television Channels and Platforms Penalized by RTÜK…

According to news reports published on April 30, 2025, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed fines on Halk TV on the grounds of remarks made about the Minister of National Education during the program titled “Sansürsüz”; on SCZ on the grounds of remarks made by Turkey Workers’ Party (TİP) MP Sera Kadıgil during the “Nokta Atışı” program; Kanal D was fined on the grounds of the series “Eşref Rüyası”; NOW TV was fined on the grounds of the series ‘Yeraltı’; the digital platform Prime Video was fined on the grounds of the film “Gangs of Lagos”; the digital platform Netflix was fined on the grounds of an episode of the series “Trigger”; It was reported that administrative fines were imposed on the HBO Max digital platform on the grounds of two episodes of the series “Altın Çocuk,” and that a decision was made to remove the content in question from the catalogs of these digital platforms.

(05/013) Social Media Account Subject to Access Block…

According to news reports on April 30, 2026, it was learned that access to the X social media account belonging to Fırat News Agency was blocked at the request of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority.
