(03/105) Civilian Person Dies Suspiciously in Van…
On March 22, 2025, it is learned that a person named Fehim Tosun died under suspicious circumstances in Iran-Turkey border area near Özpınar (Elbês) rural neighbourhood of Başkale district of Van.
It is stated in the news reports that security forces told his family that Fehim Tosun died due to a mine explosion and an eyewitness said that Fehim Tosun was shot in the head.
As of March 25, 2026, it is learned that Fehim Tosun’s body was not handed over to his family and was kept in the border area.
Cezmi Arslan, the headman of the village where the incident took place, stated the following in his statement to the press “Fehim had a warrant out for his arrest and he wanted to go to Iran. But he was shot in the process. We want to take our body from there. The state tells us, ‘It is a mined area’ and that is why we are not allowed to go. The prosecutor needs to go there and investigate.”

On March 25, 2026, it is learned that a journalist named Abdullah Akyol was subjected to physical violence of people working in businesses in Diyarbakır while he was following news reports.

Through the investigation initiated after Newroz celebration in Istanbul, 10 of 38 people including 1 child who were detained on March 24, 2026 in Istanbul, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on the same day on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. 28 people were released, 1 of them on house confinement and 1 on judicial control conditions.
Through the investigation initiated after Newroz celebration in Diyarbakır, 18 of 21 people who were detained in Diyarbakır on March 24, 2026 are arrested by the criminal court of peace on the same day on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. 3 people were released.
Through the investigation initiated after Newroz celebration in Bitlis, 25 people are detained on the allegations of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ in house raids in Tatvan and Ahlat districts of Bitlis on March 25, 2026.
Through the investigation initiated after Newroz celebration in Siirt, 1 person is detained in Siirt on March 25, 2026.

On March 24, 2026, the police intervened the march in Çankaya district of Ankara to mark the anniversary of the detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. It was not learned whether anyone was detained during the intervention.

On March 24, 2026, it is learned from the news coverage of March 24, 2026 that Larin Kayataş, a doctor with an open trans identity, was dismissed from civil service on the grounds of ‘committing disgraceful and shameful acts of a nature and degree incompatible with the title of civil servant’. Larin Kayataş had previously been dismissed from civil service and reinstated by a court decision.

It is learned that 4 news reports on https://x.com/ifadeorgtr , https://www.olay53.com/ (2 news reports), https://www.haber61.net/ websites and a social media post on the closure of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University without admitting any students are banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order by Rize Criminal Judicature of Peace on March 23, 2026.
