(12/127) Persons Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Şırnak…

On December 24, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2025 that, Hanife Kabul, mother of İrfan Kabul, who was detained during house raids in Şırnak, was subjected to physical violence of the police for speaking Kurdish. It is also stated in the news reports that İrfan Kabul, who objected to this situation, was also subjected to physical violence of the police.

(12/128) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

On December 23, 2025, the police intervened the march of university students on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, protesting the minimum wage, scholarship and loan amounts announced and detained 20 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained people were released the same day after statement procedures at the police.

On December 24, 2025, 3 people (İrfan Kabul, Abdullah Temelkuran and Serhat Temelkuran) are detained in house raids in Şırnak on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. It is learned that lawyer restriction is imposed on the case for 24 hours.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 24, 2025 that 5 trans women were detained in Bornova district of Izmir on December 22, 2025, on the grounds of lighting a fire outside. 5 people were released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions.

(12/131) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Ramazan Yurttapan, managing editor of Demokratik Modernite Magazine, Haydar Ergül, editor of the magazine, and 3 writers, on the charge of insulting the President, continued on December 23, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The court adjourned the trial to October 1, 2026.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed on the grounds of Zafer Party chair Ümit Özdağ’s speech at an event of his party, was held at Istanbul 35th Criminal Court of First Instance on December 24, 2025. The court acquitted Ümit Özdağ on the charge of ‘insulting the President’.

(12/133) Prisoners on Trial in Antalya…

The trial of the case against 4 prisoners (Ümit Tamur, Cesim Yıldırım, İbrahim Ertaş and Özkan Bayhan) in Antalya Manavgat S Type Prison, on the allegations of damaging the wires on the windows of their rooms, is held at Manavgat Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on December 24, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 4 prisoners on the charge of ‘damaging public property’. The court rejected the request for recusal of the judge on the grounds of not allowing the defense in Kurdish and adjourned the trial to April 2, 2026.

On December 23, 2025, the trial of the case against 5 fugitive defendants for the suicide bomb attack of ISIS against Peace Rally in Ankara on October 10, 2015, which killed 103 people, continued at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 26. The court adjourned the trial to June 30, 2026.

On December 24, 2025, journalists who wanted to follow the trial of the case against people detained in police intervention to 23rd Istanbul Pride March, were prevented by the police from entering Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse.

(12/136) Discriminatory Practice at the Trial…

It is learned that the trial of the case against 4 prisoners (Ümit Tamur, Cesim Yıldırım, İbrahim Ertaş and Özkan Bayhan) in Antalya Manavgat S Type Prison, on the grounds of damaging the wires on the windows of their rooms, was held at Manavgat Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on December 24, 2024. It is learned that the judge rejected the demand of prisoners to make defence in Kurdish saying “this is the courts of the Republic of Turkey, you will speak Turkish in my court, I will not let you speak Kurdish, who do you think you are”.

On December 24, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of December 24, 2025 that the screening of Carol, which was to be held by Galatasaray University Cinema Club as a part of the year-end event, was cancelled by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports on the grounds of “LGBTI+ elements in the film”.

It is learned that 177 content and accounts related to Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, including 2 social media accounts of journalist Serdar Akinan, posts of journalists Serdar Akinan and Bahadır Özgü and Republican People’s Party Istanbul MP Oğuz Kaan Salıcı , and Baba Ocağı news website https://www.babaocagi.com/, are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 4 on December 18, 2025.

It is learned that 3 news reports about Astaş Holding Chairman on https://www.birgun.net/, https://haber.sol.org.tr/, https://www.ntv.com.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 4 on December 19, 2025 and these news reports are ordered to be deleted.
