On December 12, 2025, the first trial of the case against 17 people for participating in the Pride March held at Middle East Technical University Campus in Ankara in 2023, started at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 50.

M.D., one of the defendants, stated the following about torture and ill-treatment he was subjected to during detention While we were waiting for a taxi to go to the hospital with our detained friends, two cars came and when the police officers came to us, we explained the situation and said we were leaving. The police officers in the car detained us by using torture. They wanted to take our cell phones, we didn’t give them to them and I was taken out of the car and made to lie on the ground, my back was stepped on and gas was sprayed in my face.”

A person named N.U. stated the following: “We saw our friends being subjected to police violence. Although we asked for the door of the detention vehicle to be opened because we were affected by the tear gas, they did not open it.”

S. stated the following: “I saw my friends being detained while I was eating. I took a video and the police made me delete it. Then I went back to the dormitory. I saw people shouting and running away in the forest. I went outside out of curiosity. I met a friend of mine and while we were chatting, the police came to us. The police asked me to take off my colorful scarf, and when I didn’t, they threatened me and I was detained. I was asphyxiated in the car for 50 minutes; they said, ‘Let him run out of air’.”

N. stated the following: “While we were waiting to leave the campus, the police came to us ‘on suspicion of protest’ and we were detained. My friend was kicked in the head. They put me on the ground, kicked me and sprayed pepper spray.”
