1 – 3 November 2025 Daily Human Rights Report

(11/001) Prisoner Died in Prison

It is learned that Faruk Fatih Özer, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison, died in his ward where he was kept alone on November 1, 2025. According to the news reports in the press, the cause of death is claimed to be suicide.

(11/002) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 3, 2025 that, Zarife Can, wife of Faruk Can, a prisoner in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison, was prevented by wardens from visiting him, on the grounds of the way she tied her scarf, and was given a 3-month visit ban.

(11/003) Prisoner Prevented from Right to Access to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 3, 2025 that, Salih Turan, a prisoner in Şırnak T Type Prison was not referred to hospital for 2 times, on the grounds of rejecting to be forced to wear slippers to hospital.

(11/004) Prisoners whose release has been adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 3, 2025 that, the release of Faruk Can, a prisoner in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison was adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on October 19, 2025 for 6 months on the grounds of ‘lack of remorse’. It is reported that the release of the prisoner was adjourned 1 time for 1 year and 1 time for 3 months.

(11/005) Person Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 31, 2025 that, a person named E.T. who was detained in Van on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ was subjected to physical violence of the police for protesting his arrest by the criminal court of peace. It is stated in the news reports that at least 3 relatives of E.T. were also subjected to physical violence and were detained. The names of the detainees could not be learned.

(10/007) Trade Union Executive Assaulted in Istanbul…

It is learned that Mustafa Adnan Akyol, President of Yapı Yol-İş Union, was attacked with stones by alleged employer representatives during his visit to a construction site in Istanbul on October 31, 2025. It is reported that Mustafa Adnan Akyol was wounded in the head and 2 union members and executives were wounded in the hand.

(11/008) Police Intervention to Condolence in Şırnak…

On November 3, 2025, the police intervened the people who wanted to go to the condolence house of Berivan Katar, a YJA militant who lost her life in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and YJA militants in Zap region of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on March 20, 2025, by using physical violence. It is learned that at least 1 person was detained during the intervention.

(11/009) Detained Political Party Members in Istanbul and Antalya…

13 of 21 members of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) who were detained in Istanbul and Antalya on October 28, 2025 are arrested by the criminal court of peace on October 31, 2025. It is reported that 5 people were released after statement procedures at the police and 3 people were released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions.

(11/010) Detained Musician in Istanbul

Musician Hakan Akay was detained at Istanbul Airport where he arrived from Germany on November 2, 2025, on the grounds of an investigation against him for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and was released after his statement to the prosecutor’s office via SEGBİS.

(11/011) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…

7 journalists (Selman Güzelyüz, Diren Yurtsever, Emrullah Acar, Hakan Yalçın, Öznur Değer, Deniz Nazlım and Zemo Ağgöz) had been charged and 3 were acquitted in the lawsuit filed against 11 journalists at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 4 on the grounds of 149 separate news reports published in Jinnews and Mezopotamya News Agency (MA).

It is learned that Ankara Regional Court of Appeals Criminal Chamber No 22 upheld the jail sentences of 6 years and 3 months for 7 journalists (Selman Güzelyüz, Diren Yurtsever, Emrullah Acar, Hakan Yalçın, Öznur Değer, Deniz Nazlım and Zemo Ağgöz) and acquittals of 3 journalists (Habibe Eren, Ceylan Şahinli and Mehmet Günhan) on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. 22nd Criminal Chamber overturned the prison sentence given to 1 journalist (Berivan Altan).

(11/012) Co-Mayors, City Council Members and Other People on Trial…

Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 2 started on October 31, 2025 to hear the case against co-mayors of Akdeniz district of Mersin, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, who were replaced by trustees and are still in detention, and 8 people including city council member Özgür Çağlar and Mersin provincial co-chair of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Reşat Aşan.

The indictment demands sentence for 10 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘financing an illegal organisation’.

The court released Hoşyar Sarıyıldız, Nuriye Arslan and Özgür Çağlar with a travel ban and judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial.

Hoşyar Sarıyıldız, Nuriye Arslan and Özgür Çağlar were arrested on January 13, 2025.
