Ministry of Interior declared that 1 person died and 29 people got injured in an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 centered in Sındırgı district of Balıkesir on August 10, 2025.
(08/041) Refugee/Asylum Seeker Died in Removal Center…
It is learned from news coverage of August 10, 2025 that a woman refugee/asylum seeker in Istanbul Çatalca Repatriation Center lost her life. It is claimed in the news reports that the refugee/asylum seeker committed suicide. It is also stated in the news reports that 2 more refugees/asylum seekers attempted suicide in the detention center.

On August 8, 2025, it is learned that Ercüment Şahin Çervatoğlu, elected mayor of Fındıklı district of Rize, was physically attacked by a group of three people.
(08/043) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
On August 9, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of August 9, 2025 that in Balıkesir Bandırma T Type Prison No 1, personal belongings of prisoners were distributed during ward searches and social and cultural rights of prisoners were restricted. It is also stated in the news reports that 2 prisoners, Metin Şahin and Şenol Acar, were subjected to disciplinary proceedings for using water barrels as dumbbells and were sentenced to solitary confinement for 10 days.
On August 10, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of August 10, 2025 that Emrecan Demir, a prisoner in Samsun Kavak S Type Prison was subjected to physical violence of the wardens for rejecting to be searched inside the mouth during transfer to hospital.
(08/044) Prisoners Adjourned Release by Prison Administration and Observation Board…
On August 9, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of August 9, 2025 that, the release of 2 prisoners, Mehmet Çellik and Sezar Durak, who completed their life sentences in Yozgat T Type Prison, was adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) for 9 and 7 months respectively. It is stated in the news reports that after the postponement of the release of the two prisoners was canceled by the execution judge’s decision, CİGK reconvened and increased the postponement periods of the prisoners from 6 and 4 months to 9 and 7 months respectively.
(08/045) Investigation Against Journalist…
It is learned from news coverage of July 11, 2025 that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is kept in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison, on the grounds of ‘publicly spreading misleading information’.
Fatih Altaylı, who was detained on June 21, 2025, was arrested on June 22, 2025 on the grounds of ‘making threatening remarks targeting the President’.
(08/046) Person on Trial in Antalya…
The first trial of the case against Eylül Dumanlı, for her social media posts about detention of mayors of Antalya, Adana and Adıyaman, started to be held at Antalya Penal Court of First Instance No 36 on August 8, 2025. The court released Eylül Dumanlı and adjourned the trial to a later date.
Eylül Dumanlı was arrested on July 5, 2025.

On August 10, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of August 10, 2025 that 3 news reports on https://halktv.com. tr/, https://t24. com.tr/ , https://www.birgun.net/ websites about the diploma of an MP from Justice and Development Party (AKP) are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ under Article 8/A of Law No 5651.
