(01/125) Soldiers and Asylum Seeker Died in Mersin…
It is learned that 2 soldiers (Eren Öztürk and Yasin Eroğlu) and 1 asylum seeker died in the military vehicle transferring asylum seekers to Kırıkkale Repatriation Center which crashed into another vehicle in Tarsus district of Mersin on January 17, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 16, 2023 that, prisoners who were referred to hospital were forced to in mouth search in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison and those who reject it were not being transferred to hospitals.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 17, 2023 that, a prisoner named Zübeyir İdem in Giresun Espiye L Type Prison was forced to in mouth search during hospital transfer and was not taken to the hospital on the grounds of rejecting it.

It is learned that 3 people (Mehmet Zeki Akıl, Sekvan Duru and Ramazan Akça) were detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak on January 17, 2023. The reason for detention is unknown.
(01/128) Co-Mayors on Trial in Mardin…
The trial of the case against Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, HDP co-mayor of Kızıltepe district; and Gülistan Öncü, HDP co-mayor of Savur district, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on January 17, 2023. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 2, 2023.
The Ministry of Interior appointed sub-governors as trustees to Kızıltepe (on November 4, 2019) and to Savur (November 16, 2019). Gülistan Öncü was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was detained on December 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 16, 2019. Öncü and Yılmaz were released from the prison on April 1, 2021.
(01/129) Kemal Kurkut Case…
On March 11, 2022, the Penal Department No 1 of Diyarbakır Regional Court has finalised the appeal on the case of Kemal Kurkut’s killing and has overturned the local court’s acquittal on the grounds that Kemal Kurkut’s death was in the scope of “legal framework” and ruled that the final verdict should be “no legal ground for sentence” since it is not clear that the crime was committed by the accused. Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 7, has acquitted police officer Y. Ş., for killing university student Kemal Kurkut by shooting him behind his back during Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2017.
The retrial of the case is held on January 17, 2023. The court decided that there is “no legal ground for sentence”.
(01/130) Ali İsmail Korkmaz Case…
The retrial of the case against a police officer named H. E., regarding death of Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who was killed as a result of the physical violence of the police and civilians in Eskişehir during the Gezi Park protests in 2013, is held at Kayseri Heavy Penal Court No. 3 on January 17, 2023. The Constitutional Court has ruled that “the right to live” was violated. The court sentenced the police officer to 7 months and 15 days on the charge of “intentional injury”.

The first trial of the case against 5 correction officers (Cem A., Mehmet E. D., Mustafa İ., Ömer G. T. and Taşkın G.) regarding death of a prisoner named Yılmaz Ekinci in Aydın E Type Prison on January 13, 2022, is held at Aydın Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 on January 16, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for defendants on the charge of “misconduct”. The court adjourned the trial to March 28, 2023. The prison administration has declared that Yılmaz Ekinci killed himself however Aydın Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation upon the torture and ill-treatment allegations.

It is learned that an unknown person or persons wrote “Islam is the only way” on the garden wall of the Aya Yorgi Church in Fatih district of Istanbul on January 17, 2023. by an unknown person or persons.

It is learned that the news report about the Presidential Administrative Affairs chair published on https://www.bbc.com/turkce, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.diken.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 8 on January 16, 2023.
