(07/100) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 8, 2020 that 3 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak on June 27, 2020; and 2 militants died in a clash in Haftanin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 3, 2020.

(07/101) Civilian People Died in Şırnak…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 8, 2020 that, 2 civilian people, Selahattin Güngen (38) and Üzeyir Batmaz (49) who went to have a picnic in rural areas of Şırnak on July 5, 2020 were reported missing since then. It is reported that families of Selahattin Güngen and Üzeyir Batmaz applied to İkizce Gendarmerie Station and to Human Rights Association (IHD) Şırnak branch.

Human Rights Association made a declaration and stated that Selahattin Güngen and Üzeyir Batmaz went to Cevizdüzü village and “took a ride with their car, families of them had a phone call with Selahattin Güngen around noon for the last time, and their phones went turned off after that time. They did not come back in the evening, and their families went to İkizce Gendarmerie Station around 9 p.m., after their application security forces found their car parked around Cudi mountainside on 06.07.2020, but Selahattin Güngen and Üzeyir Batmaz were not in the car”.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 8, 2020, Selahattin Güngen and Üzeyir Batmaz were killed and HPG took the responsibility of their deaths.

(07/102) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 8, 2020 that 3 prisoners (Mehmet Faruk Engin, Baver Başar and İbrahim Halil Karataş) in Osmaniye T Type Prison No 2 went on an indefinite hunger strike to demand an end to prevention of their right to health, on July 6, 2020.

(07/103) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration for lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal who are on death fast in prison; in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on July 8, 2020 and detained 1 person (Yıldırım Deniz). Yıldırım Deniz is released after statement procedures at the police.

(07/104) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1338 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 8, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(07/105) Detained Political Party Executives in Urfa…

On July 8, 2020, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member Bekir Karageçit, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Viranşehir district co-chair Hıdır Oktay and district executive İhsak Gündüz are detained in house raids in Urfa. The reason of detention is unknown.

On July 8, 2020, 5 people are detained on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, in house raids in Izmir. Names of detained people are unknown.

(07/107) Detained HDP Members in Istanbul…

5 of 9 members of HDP Youth Assembly who were detained on July 1, 2020 in Istanbul are arrested by the court on July 8, 2020. 4 people are released on judicial control conditions. Names of arrested people are unknown.

(07/108) HDP Members on Trial in Kocaeli…

The first trial of the case against 27 people (14 of them are arrested) including HDP’s Kocaeli co-chairs is held at Kocaeli Heavy Penal Court No 2 on July 8, 2020.

Arrested defendants joined the trial from prisons via sound and vision system.

After defence hearings the court released 8 people (HDP Kocaeli co-chair Leyla Aygün, HDP Party Assembly member Engin Güleser, HDP Gebze district co-chair Meryem Uslu, HDP Darıca district former co-chair Kudret Davutoğlu, HDP members Emine Karaaslan, Mekiye Aydın, Necla Erdoğan and Hasret Erdem), and decided to continue detention of 6 people (Damla Bağcı, HDP Party Assembly member Mehmet Alçınkaya, Mehmet Karaaslan, HDP Gebze district co-chair Ebubekir Çoban, CHP’s Gebze city council member Osman Kurum, Kutbeddin Güneşsu) and adjourned the trial to September 8, 2020.

(07/109) HDP Executive on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against Günay Kubilay, former spokesperson of HDP, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 4 on July 8, 2020.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to November 3, 2020.

(07/110) Members and Executives of ESP and SGDF on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 14 members and executives of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), including ESP co-chair Şahin Tümüklü and SGDF co-chair Alev Özkiraz, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 on July 8, 2020.

After defence hearings the court rejected to lift the ban on leaving the country and judicial control conditions for defendants and adjourned the trial to November 4, 2020.

14 people were detained through an investigation on “Istanbul is on the street” supplement of Atılım newspaper on June 15 and 16, 2019; and were released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 19, 2020.

(07/111) Labour Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 188 workers including 8 children, 4 women, and 8 refugees died while working in June 2020. It is stated in the report that 934 workers died in labour killings the first 6 months of 2020.

It is learned that access to a news report on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ and to an entry on this news report on https://eksisozluk.com/ is banned by Harran Penal Court of Peace on July 6, 2020.

It is learned that access to three distinct news reports on https://www.milligazete.com.tr/ is banned by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 8 on July 7, 2020.

(07/113) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 22 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,041 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on July 8, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 5,282 and total number of confirmed cases is 208,938 as of July 8, 2020.
