(12/332) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 30, 2019 that Filiz Buluttekin, co-mayor of Sur district of Diyarbakır was transferred from Diyarbakır Closed Women’s Prison to Erzurum E Type Prison under coercion; and other co-mayor Cemal Özdemir is transferred from Diyarbakır D Type Prison to Erzurum H Type Prison under coercion. Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir were detained on December 20, 2019 and were arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on December 23, 2019.

(12/333) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1147 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 30, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 30, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Mehmet Dersulu) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 30, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(12/334) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on December 30, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 3 people (Mahmut Konuk, Mehmet Dersulu and Cemal Yıldırım). It is learned that 3 people were released the same day.

The police intervened the sit-in protest at Bakırköy Square on December 30, 2019 of Nursel Tanrıverdi who rally for 145 weeks to regain her job from which she had been dismissed by state of emergency decree, and detained her by using physical violence.

It is learned that Bozan Karayılan, who was detained in house raids in Birecik district of Urfa on December 27, 2019 is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on December 30, 2019.

(12/337) Prosecuted Person in Tekirdağ for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 30, 2019 that, Çorlu Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Mısra Öz Sel, for her social media posts and that Mısra Öz Sel is called to give her official statement. Mısra Öz Sel’s son Oğuz Arda Sel died in the train crash in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ on July 8, 2018.

The case against 16 people on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ for attending a commemoration in 2015 for 34 people who died due to an air bombardment to Roboski village of Uludere district of Şırnak on December 28, 2011; is held at Uludere Penal Court of First Instance on December 30, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to January 13, 2020.

(12/339) Constitutional Court Decision on Right to Live…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 30, 2019 that Constitutional Court concluded the appeal about Dilan Kortak, who died in a police raid to a house in Sancaktepe district of Istanbul on December 3, 2015. The court ruled that right to live violated in terms of procedure. Dilan Kortak’s family have made an official complaint to Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office and it was rejected on March 18, 2016, on the grounds that “police officers in operation have acted according to necessary defence conditions”, and the appeal to rejection was also rejected by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 2.

(12/340) Special Security Zone in Antep…

Antep Governorate made a declaration on December 30, 2019, and announced 48 areas near Syrian border with given coordinates as special security zones as of January 1, 2020 until January 15, 2020.
