(06/001) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that, 2 YRK militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) to Asos area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

It is learned that 2 soldiers died and 1 soldier got wounded in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Çukurca district of Hakkari on May 30, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2020 that, 1 HPG militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to rural areas of Şırnak on May 17, 2020.

(06/002) Allegation of Extrajudicial Killing in Ankara…

It is claimed in the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that Muhammed Ali Razı, who, according to declaration of Ankara Governorate, was reported to die in the car crash while he was running away after disobeying a stop warning; died by the gunfire opened by security forces which hit him at the head.

It is stated in the news reports that the autopsy of Muhammed Alican Razı at Forensic Medicine Institution confirms a bullet entrance hole behind his head.

Ankara Governorate has made a declaration on May 25, 2020, stating the following: “The car did not stop at Susuz Yol check point at the city entrance of Ankara and overdrove until it crashed to the arch on the road. M. A. R., the driver died at the scene of incident, and R. S., the passenger, was slightly wounded and was hospitalized”.

(06/003) Person Died in Prison…

Vefa Kartal, an ill prisoner died in Edirne F Type Prison on May 31, 2020.

Vefa Kartal, was one of seriously ill prisoners listed by Human Rights Association (IHD) Commission of Prisons, and was in prison for 26 years since he was sentenced to heavy life imprisonment.

(06/004) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that, prisoners in Istanbul Silivri L Type Prison No 7, are given newspapers with a one day of delay, and some newspapers are not given to them at all despite of any bans on newspapers; the letters of prisoners addressing parliamentary members are not sent; prisoners are not given cleaning supplies and disinfectants and products at prison commissary are sold at higher prices than normal.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that, 2 prisoners in Silivri L Type Prison No 9 were kept in solitary cells for 80 days; prisoners were not given cleaning supplies and disinfectants; food given to prisoners were not sufficient and hygienic.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2020 that women prisoners in Mardin E Type Prison were subjected to disciplinary proceedings for they reject to roll-calls out of wards.

(06/005) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that prisoners in Istanbul Slivri L Type Prison No 7 were not taken to infirmary for 2 months.

(06/006) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2020 that, 3 people (M. E. C., M. A., F. A.) who were detained in relation to death of a police officer in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Diyarbakır Security Directorate.

The photograph of M. E. C. showing him at Diyarbakır Security Directorate, laying down on the floor without his clothes on, is covered by media. It could be seen that at that moment a police officer is stepping on his back.

(06/007) Person Was Subjected to Police Violence in Antep…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2020 that, 1 person who was taken off a bus at a police control point at Antep city entrance, was subjected to physical violence of the police. The name of this person is unknown.

(06/008) Person Was Subjected to Police Violence in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2020 that a person who was in front of his house in Eyüp district of Istanbul during the curfew was subjected to physical violence of the police and was detained. The person’s name is unknown, and the video footage of him being subjected to police violence is covered by the media.

(06/009) Police Intervention to a Protest in Batman…

The police used rubber bullets and pepper spray to intervene the press declaration of Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (KESK) Batman Branches Platform, in front of Directorate of Family, Labor and Social Services in Batman on May 29, 2020; to protest relegation of 3 members of Health and Social Service Employees Union (SES). The police detained 8 union executives. Detained people are: SES Batman branch co-chair Deniz Topkan, Education and Science Workers’ Union general secretary Welat Kaya, KESK Women’s Secretary Gülistan Atasoy, Union of Office Workers General Secretary Aziz Özkan, SES Batman branch executive Salih Bayat, SES Women’s Secretary Selma Atabey, Erdal Doğan and Yunus İzmir.

(06/010) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1300 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 29, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration at 18.00 on May 30, 2020 and detained 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) for violating the curfew as a precaution for Covid-19.

The police intervened the press declaration at 18.00 on May 31, 2020 and detained 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) for violating the curfew as a precaution for Covid-19.

Thus, 2 people in total are detained in police interventions against press declarations in Yüksel Street on May 29, 30 and 31, 2020.

(06/011) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration for architect Alev Şahin, who was dismissed from her job by a state of emergency decree, in front of Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning building in Ankara on May 29 2020; and forced 1 person away from the building.

(06/012) Detained Person in Izmir for Social Media Posts…

Banu Özdemir, former provincial deputy chair of Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Izmir, who was detained on May 21, 2020, on the grounds of a social media post about Ciao Bella played from mosques in Izmir; and who was then arrested on May 22, 2020 on the charge of ‘insulting religious values’ is released from prison by the court order on May 29, 2020.

(06/013) Detained People in Mardin…

4 people are detained (Bedrettin Özge, Halil Bergin, Aydın Özdurak and Nezir Demir) by gendarmerie in house raids in Çayköy rural neighbourhood of Derik district of Mardin on May 31, 2020.

(06/014) Investigation Against a Journalist in Tekirdağ…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2020 that, Tekirdağ Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Saray local newspaper, for the news report on social media post of Saray Municipality on Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Aslan and Hüseyin Inan; and that journalist Alper Karahan gave his official statement at Saray District Security Directorate.

(06/015) Detained HDP Executives in Batman…

Fatma Ablay and Ömer Kutlu, provincial co-chairs of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Batman are detained in the police raid to HDP Batman office on May 29, 2020. 2 people are released by the court on judicial control conditions on May 30, 2020.

(06/016) Police Raid to a Political Party Office in Batman…

HDP’s office in Batman is raided by the police on May 29, 2020. It is learned that the reason of police raid is PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s posters that could be seen from the outside of the office. Some photographs and all digital material at the office were seized by the police.

(06/017) Assault to a Political Party Office in Şırnak…

1 person (M. B.) who was detained on the grounds of setting the door of HDP’s office on fire in Cizre district of Şırnak on May 28, 2020 is arrested by the court on May 30, 2020.

(06/018) Curfew in Bitlis…

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on May 30, 2020 and announced curfew in 19 villages of the central district as of 22.00 on May 30, 2020 until a further notice. Villages under curfew are: Çobansuyu, Aşağıçobansuyu, Akgün, Kutlu, Güllüce, Dikme, Aşağıdikme, Yukarıdikme, Esenburun, Beşkaynak, Bayırlı, Kınalı, Uçankuş, Yarönü, Dursun, Aşağıyolak, Yukarıyolak, Aşağıkoçak, Çeltikli.

(06/019) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

Major F. Ö., adjutant of Aegean Army Command who was detained on May 28, 2020 is arrested by the court on May 31, 2020.

(06/020) Mass Grave Found in Mardin…

It is learned that human bones and skulls of 40 people is found in a cave in Libka hamlet of Dargeçit district of Mardin on May 30, 2020.

It is reported that lawyers of families of disappeared people and lawyers from Human Rights Association (IHD) Mardin branch were not allowed to investigate the cave.

It is learned that found human bones will be sent to Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution for examination.

(06/021) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 28 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,141 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on May 29, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 26 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 983 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on May 30, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 25 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 839 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on May 31, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,540 and total number of confirmed cases is 163,942 as of May 31, 2020.

Minister of Justice announced on May 29, 2020 that non-contact visits in prisons will begin on June 1, 2020.

According to the report of Human Rights Association (IHD), Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD), Med Federation of Legal and Solidarity Associations of Prisoners’ Families (MED TUHAD-FED) and Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) which was covered by media on May 29, 2020; 15 wards in Silivri L Type Prison No 7 is in quarantine and 107 prisoners tested positive for Covid-19. It is also stated in the report that all prisoners including those in quarantine use the same phones.
