(06/301) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Ministry of National Defence declared that 1 soldier (Recep Durak) died and 1 soldier got wounded in an attack against security forces in rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on June 23, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 2020 that 2 HPG militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Arıcak district of Elazığ on June 8, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 2020 that prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison started a 2-day hunger strike to demand an end to right violations.

(06/303) Censored Fax Message in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 2020 that, fax message from Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), in Kandıra F Type Prison, to HDP Diyarbakır MP Musa Farisoğulları who was put in Diyarbakır Prison after being stripped of MP status, is given censored to him by prison administration.

(06/304) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1323 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 23, 2020 at 13.30 and 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/305) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Düzce…

On June 23, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/306) Detained HDP Executive and Other People in Erzurum…

Dinçer Polat, HDP district co-chair who was detained in Karayazı district of Erzurum on June 14, 2020 is arrested by the court on June 23, 2020. 6 people who were also detained are released on judicial control conditions.

(06/307) Detained Musician in Mersin…

Musician Kadir Çat who was detained at Mersin Courthouse where he went to give his official statement through an investigation against him on June 23, 2020, is released by the court on the same day.

(06/308) Detained HDP Members in Mardin…

2 members of HDP Mersin Youth Assembly (Elif İnan and Fahrettin Durmaz) are detained in Artuklu district of Mardin on June 23, 2020; for attaching stickers “We are taking action for mother tongue based egalitarian education” on streets. Detained 2 people are released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

On June 23, 2020, 13 people are detained in Izmir on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’. Names of detained people are unknown.

(06/310) Detained People in Bingöl…

11 people who were detained in central and Karlıova districts of Bingöl on June 19, 2020 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 23, 2020. Detained people were: Bayram Aksoy, Selim Aksoy, Ferit Karabağ, Nihat Tiryaki, Abdurahim Aksoy, Yüksel Aksoy, Süleyman Bulutgiray, Nihat Gürdeğir, Mahmut Gürdeğir, Didem Polat and Önder Polat.

(06/311) Co-Mayor on Trial in Urfa…

The trial of the case against Hatice Çevik, HDP co-mayor of Suruç district of Urfa, is geld at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 23, 2020.

The indictment demands sentence for Hatice Çevik on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Hatice Çevik joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court released Hatice Çevik and adjourned the trial to October 27, 2020.

Hatice Çevik was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 20, 2019. Ministry of Interior has appointed Suruç sub-governor as a trustee to Suruç Municipality.

(06/312) CHP Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

Republican People’s Party (HDP) Istanbul chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu has been on trial for her social media posts, and Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 has sentenced her to 2 years and 8 months for ‘publicly inciting hatred and hostility among people’; 1 year and 6 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’; 2 years and 4 months for ‘insulting the President’; 1 year and 8 months for ‘publicly degrading Turkish Republic’; 1 year 6 months and 20 days for ‘insulting a public officer due to his duty’ which makes in total 9 years 8 months and 20 days. On June 23, 3030, Penal Department No 2 of Istanbul Regional Court approved the sentence given.

(06/313) Journalist on Trial in Tekirdağ…

The trial of the case against journalist Rıfat Doğan, for he shot photographs during the trial of the case on train crash which happened on July 8, 2018 in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, is held at Çorlu Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on June 23, 3030. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 8, 2020.

(06/314) Police Officer on Trial for Allegations of Torture and Ill-Treatment…

On June 23, 3030, Erzurum Regional Court Penal Department No 7 concluded on the appeal to acquittal of police officer O. Ş., who was on trial at Gevaş Penal Court of First Instance, for torture and ill-treatment against 4 people. 4 people who were detained in Gevaş district of Van on June 9, 2017, while they were gathering mushrooms; were taken to Gevaş Security Directorate. Penal Department No 7 sentenced the police officer to 3000 Turkish Liras for ‘intentional injury by excessive use of force by a public officer who has the authority of using force’ and deterred the announcement of the verdict.

(03/315) The Case on Sürmi İnce’s Death in Hakkari…

The retrial of the case against specialised sergeant Ali Dağkıran, for Sürmi İnce’s (55) death due to gunfire of military members in Yüksekova district of Hakkari, is held at Yüksekova Heavy Penal Court on June 23, 3030. On March 6, 2020, Erzurum Regional Court has reversed the 3 years and 4 months’ sentence given by Yüksekova Heavy Penal Court.

The court adjourned the trial to October 27, 2020.

On July 18, 2017, Sürmi İnce died due to gunfire shot by military members, while she was carrying food for her children in Büyükçiftlik town of Yüksekova.

(06/316) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

Şahin Öner was hit by an armoured police vehicle on February 10, 2013 in Diyarbakır, during protests about anniversary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s being taken to Turkey, and died. The trial of the case against police officer S. K., driver of the armoured vehicle, on the charge of intentional killing, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 on June 23, 2020.

It is learned that the report on crime scene investigation conducted on February 17, 2020 is submitted. The court rejected to arrest defendant police officer S. K. and adjourned the trial.

It is learned that Hüseyin Sarı, CHP mayor of Erdek district of Balıkesir is suspended by Ministry of Interior on June 23, 2020; upon finalisation of 1 year and 15 days’ sentence given to him on the charge of ‘collusive tendering’.

(06/318) Official Announcement and Advertisement Ban on Newspapers…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 3030 that the Press Advertisement Agency has issued Evrensel newspaper with a ban on official announcements and advertisements for 45 days, for the article “No Escape of Ill-Fate” of Ragıp Zarakolu.

(06/319) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 23, 3030, 12 people are detained in operations covering 8 cities through an Izmir based investigation.

Adjutant of Major General Ali Serin, Head of Intelligence Department of Presidency of General Staff, who were detained in Malatya is arrested by the court on June 23, 2020.

(06/320) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 27 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,268 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 23, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 5,001 and total number of confirmed cases is 190,165 as of June 23, 2020.
