(06/280) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 3 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to rural areas of Adıyaman on June 22, 2020.

(06/281) People Died in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2020 that, Adar Sarıbaş (23) who was kept in Istanbul Silivri L Type Prison No 8, had gastrointestinal bleeding for an unknown reason and died in hospital after 50 days of treatment there. It is stated in the news reports that Adar Sarıbaş was taken to hospital hours after he had gastrointestinal bleeding. Kemal Sarıbaş, uncle of Adar Sarıbaş, claims that after having an operation Adar Sarıbaş was put in the section where patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have been kept, and states the following: “One of the patients in this section died from Covid-19 the same day they put him [Adar Sarıbaş] there. Doctors said that he had the virus at first. But then they said he did not. He could not get well because of being infected at hospital.”

It is learned from the news coverage that Bedir Bozkurt (76) died of heart attack in Diyarbakır D Type Prison on June 22, 2020.

(06/282) People Injured Due to Being Hit by Military Vehicle in Ağrı…

It is learned that a minivan and an armoured military vehicle collided in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı on June 22, 2020 and Hacı Kandemir, driver of the minivan got heavily injured. It is reported that Hacı Kandemir’s condition is critical.

(06/283) Police Intervention to March of Bar Association Chairs in Ankara…

The police intervened lawyers from Ankara who came to support bar association chairs who have a sit-in protest at the entrance of Ankara after they were stopped and prevented by the police, in the evening on June 22, 2020. Bar associations chairs were marching to Ankara in order to protest the planned legal amendments about lawyer associations. Şevin Kaya, Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Ankara branch co-chair was pushed to the ground and was kicked there by the police in intervention.

Bilecik Bar Association deputy chair Hasan Şahin, who was in an attempt to come nearby sit-in protest which was continuing on June 23, 2020; is detained by the police on June 23, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 23, 2020 that, after negotiations, bar associations chairs were allowed to march to Ankara and police barriers were moved.

(06/284) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1322 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 22, 2020 at 13.30 and 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the protest in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on June 22, 2020, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and forced Mahmut Konuk away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/286) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Düzce…

On June 22, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/287) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the press declaration at Abdullah Cömert Park in Samandağ district of Hatay on June 20, 2020, about Edibe Özçelik who had a heart attack when her house was raided by the police in Samandağ district of Hatay and who died on January 22, 2020; and detained 1 person (Ümit Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained person was released on the same day.

Diyarbakır city council member Ceylan Aslan, Bismil district council member Emine Akın and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists Jiyan Taş who were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır on June 19, 2020, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 23, 2020.

Canan Tağtekin and Bekir Polat, Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) co-mayors of Sarıcan town of Karakoçan district of Elazığ are detained in house raids on June 23, 2020.

(06/290) Detained Co-Mayor and City Council Member in Batman…

Hatice Taş, HDP co-mayor of İkiköprü town of Batman and Tahsin Yıldırım, city council member from HDP is detained in house raids in districts of Batman on June 22, 2020. The reason of detention is unknown. It is learned that house of Osman Karabulut, co-mayor of İkiköprü town, was also raided but he was not found home thus not detained.

Ministry of Interior has appointed Beşiri district sub-governor as a trustee to İkiköprü town on December 7, 2019.

(06/291) Detained People in Batman…

On June 22, 2020, 16 people including municipality employees are detained in house raids in Batman. The reason of detention is unknown. Names of detained people learned so far are: Hüseyin Taş, Cemal Doğan, Ekrem Evruz and Bayram Özalp.

(06/292) Detained HDP Executive in Elazığ…

Mehmet Sarı, an executive of HDP is detained in a house raid in Sarıcan town of Karakoçan district of Elazığ on June 23, 2020.

(06/293) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Rojda Nazlıer, HDP co-mayor of Kocaköy district of Diyarbakır is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on June 22, 2020.

The indictment demands sentence for Rojda Nazlıer on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Rojda Nazlıer joined the trial via sound and vision system from Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Rojda Nazlıer and adjourned the trial to September 14, 2020.

Rojda Nazlıer was detained on October 21, 2019, and was arrested by the court on October 22, 2019. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Kocaköy Municipality on October 22, 2019.

(06/295) Former Co-Mayor on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Sara Kaya, former co-mayor of Nusaybin district of Mardin, is held on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 22, 2020.

The court sentenced Sara Kaya to 13 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’, to 6 months for ‘official misconduct’, and to 2 years for ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’. The court decided to continue detention of Sara Kaya upon verdict.

Sara Kaya was detained on January 13, 2017 and was arrested by the court on January 26, 2017. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Nusaybin district on September 11, 2016.

(06/296) HDP and DBP Members and Executives on Trial in Mardin…

The trial of the case against Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial co-chairs Leyla Bozkurt and Şeyhmuz Sun, HDP Party Assembly members Alaattin Semir Zuğurli and Sedat Ay, and HDP provincial co-chair Ali Sincar is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 22, 2020. The court decided to continue detention of 5 people and adjourned the trial to September 7, 2020.

(06/297) The Case Against People Who Were Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Urfa…

The first trial of the case against 24 people including 13 arrestees is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5 on June 22, 2020.  24 people were detained after the clash in Dergili neighbourhood of Halfeti district of Urfa on May 18, 2019, where 1 police officer and 2 militants died, and they were subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody.

The indictment demands sentence for 24 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’.

Arrested defendants Zeki Alakuş, Gazeley Alakuş, Celal Ercan, Cindi Zincirkıran, Celal Yıldırım, Mehmet Alakuş, Fahrettin Alakuş, Fatma Alakuş, Niyazi Gümüş, Sariye Gümüş, Mustafa Kahraman, Abdullah Çiftçi and Besravi Atmaca joined the trial via sound and vision system. Other defendants Vakas Kılıç, Ömer Gül, Güley Çiftçi, Ruken Deniz, Rabia Kaplan, Güler Alakuş, Uğur Yıldırım, Ahmet Yıldırım, Mehmet Kaçar, Mehmet Hayri Çiftçi and Ahmet Korkmaz attended the trial.

After defence hearings the court decided to release 4 people (Gazeley Alakuş, Fatma Alakuş, Sariye Gümüş and Niyazi Gümüş) and adjourned the trial to September 18, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 22, 2020 that access to 6 entries including “handbag of Emine Erdoğan” and “to tell something as if you tell it to Bilal Erdoğan” on Ekşi Sözlük web based dictionary is banned by verdict of Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No on June 19, 2020.

On June 22, 2020, 1 person is detained on a warrant in Edirne.

(06/300) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 24 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,212 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 22, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,974 and total number of confirmed cases is 188,897 as of June 22, 2020.
