(12/235) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Muharrem Karaduman) who was on duty at Başika military base in Irak and was under treatment at Ankara Gülhane Research and Education Hospital since October 3, 2018 due to West Nile virus infection, died in hospital on December 21, 2019.

Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Ahmet Tunç) who got wounded due to explosion in Çukurca district of Hakkari on December 19, 2019, died in Ankara Gülhane Research and Education Hospital on December 21, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 22, 2019 that, Sara Kaya, former co-mayor of Nusaybin district of Diyarbakır, is transferred from Van T Type Prison to Tarsus T Type Prison under coercion.

(12/237) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on December 21, 2019 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s sister and brother and tutelary along with the families of Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysel Aktaş in order to visit, was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the Law on the Execution of Criminal and Security Measures Number 5275.

(12/238) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1139 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 20, 21, and 22, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 20, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Merve Demirel and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 21, 2019, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 22, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Alev Şahin) and at 18.00 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Alev Şahin) were detained.

Thus in total 12 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 20, 21, and 22, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(12/239) Prevention of Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…

Police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to prevent Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday for 23 years in the same place to gather for the 769th time on December 21, 2019. Upon police prevention, the group including representatives of political parties, human rights defenders and artists along with families of disappeared people held a press declaration on the street of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul office.

(12/240) Prevention of Human Rights Defenders’ Event in Istanbul…

“F sit-in”, which is organized for the 406th time by Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Watch Committee, to demand release of ill prisoners, on December 21, 2019, is prevented by the police. The police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square. Human rights defenders made the press declaration in front of IHD Istanbul office.

(12/241) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on December 20, 2019, for Mustafa Koçak, who is on hunger strike Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No 2 for 81 days demanding a fair trial, and detained 5 people. Detained people (Mustafa Koçak’s mother Zeynep Koçak and father Hasan Koçak, Taylan Gültekin, Cemile Temizkalp and Cansu Kalender) are released on the same day.

Zeynep Koçak and Hasan Koçak are detained on December 21, 2019, in front of Cevahir Shopping Mall in Şişli district of Istanbul for the same reason. 2 people are released on the same day.

(12/242) Police Prevention to a Banner in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that police prevented KESK members to enter Istasyon Square in Diyarbakır for the meeting on December 22, 2019 organized Amed Labour and Democracy Platform, because of a banner they had. The police intervene the banner saying “budget for workers not for income, interest, waste and war”, and let the members in after cutting the word “war” off the banner.

(12/243) Detained Co-Mayors and City Council Member in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir, co-mayors of Sur district of Diyarbakır, and city council member Yılmaz Eken are detained on December 20, 2019. It is reported that the police blocked around municipality building and prevented people from entering the building while searching the building. It is stated in the news reports that the police raided Filiz Buluttekin’s house, forced her and her husband and 10-year old son to lay down on the ground and put gun against their head.

(12/244) Police Prevention to Parliamentary Members and City Council Members in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun and city council members who react against detention of Filiz Buluttekin, Sur district co-mayor on December 20, 2019, are subjected to physical violence of the police preventing them.

(12/245) Detained Political Party Executives in Malatya…

6 of 11 people (HDP former provincial co-chair Fatma Alataş, Democratic Regions Party Yeşilyurt district former co-chair Reyhan Bakır, Ayşe Işık, DBP provincial executive Hatun Aydın, HDP provincial executive Zeynep Doğan and HDP member Sevgi Çınar) who were detained in house raids in Malatya on December 17, 2019 are released on judicial control conditions on December 19, 2019.

It is learned that Elif Torun Öneren, chair of Revolutionary Party, who was detained during a road check in Dörtyol district of Hatay on December 20, 2019, is released after statement procedures on December 21, 2019.

(12/247) Detained People in Mardin…

It is learned that 6 people in Çayköy village of Derik district of Mardin are detained by soldiers and are taken to Mardin Police Directorate. Detained people are: Sercan Dölek, Vedat Belgin, Halil Belgin, Nezir Demir, Aydın Özrak and Bedrettin Özge.

Barbaros Aslan and Dağhan Beşli, 2 of 3 people who were detained in Ankara on December 18, 2019, are released on judicial control conditions on December 20, 2019. Sezai Demirtaş is arrested by the court on the same day.

(12/249) Arrested Lawyer in Istanbul…

Oya Aslan, member of Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) who was detained in Istanbul on December 21, 2019, is arrested on the same day on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(12/250) Detained People in Mardin…

5 of 11 people (Aysel Erol, HDP provincial co-chair Salih Kuday, Veysi Parıltı, Abdulkerim Sayalğı and Mustafa Üstündağ Benli) who were detained in Mardin on December 11, 2019 are released on judicial control conditions on December 20, 2019. Dilaver İnal, former chair of Democrat Arabs Association is arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(12/251) The Case Against People Evacuated from Nusaybin…

The case against 70 people who were detained and then arrested on May 26, 2016, after being evacuated from the buildings they were stuck in during the curfew on Nusaybin district, is held on December 20, 2019 on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court has decided to separate the case for each defendant and to start proceedings all over again with new case files on April 5, 2019. The court sentenced 1 person (Nurşen Demir) to 10 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, and acquitted her on the charges of ‘intentional killing’, ‘damage to property’, and ‘possession or exchange of hazardous substances without permission’.

(12/252) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On January 20, 2019, 60 people including 3 colonels, 3 lieutenant colonels, 10 majors, 22 captains and 2 lieutenants are detained in operations covering 33 cities through an Izmir based investigation.

(12/253) Attack to a Political Party Office…

It is learned that HDP’s district office in Kulp district of Diyarbakır is attacked by anonymous people on December 20, 2019. It is learned that police did not come to the scene for investigation. HDP’s district office in Kulp was attacked on December 17, 2019 too.

(12/254) Trustee Appointed to Sur…

It is learned that Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir, co-mayors of Sur district of Diyarbakır are suspended by Ministry of Interior on December 21, 2019 and Sur sub-governor Abdullah Çiftçi is appointed as trustee.

With this last appointments, the number of trustees appointed since local elections on March 31, 2019, raised up to 29 including 3 metropolitan cities.

(12/255) Suspended City Council Members in Diyarbakır…

Ministry of Interior suspended 3 members (Zeki Kanay, Ramazan Özçelik and Nursel Örnek) of city council in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, on the grounds of cases and investigations against them.

(12/256) Ban of Events in Urfa…

Urfa Governorate made a declaration on December 19, 2019 and announced that, all open-door events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 30 days as of December 19, 2019.  This is the fourth time of banning all events for 30 days in Urfa since August 19, 2019.
