(03/212) Military Operation to North and East Syria…

Ministry of National Defence declared that 2 soldiers (Oğuzhan Taş, Ramazan Nayir) died and 1 soldier got wounded in an attack of jihadist groups in Idlib city of Syria on March 19, 2020.

(03/213) Intervention and Torture to Prisoner on Hunger Strike…

People’s Law Office declared on March 19, 2020 that, an official complaint on the charges of ‘torture, neglect of duty, failure to report an offence, destruction and concealing of evidence’, against prison administration, wardens on duty, chief physician and other physicians at prison hospital about torture and ill-treatment that Mustafa Koçak has been subjected during involuntary medical intervention to him at Aliağa Prisons Campus Hospital Internal Diseases Department on March 12, 2020. Mustafa Koçak was on 254th day of his hunger strike in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No 2 when he was forcefully taken to Aliağa Prisons Campus Hospital Internal Diseases Department for involuntary medical intervention.

(03/214) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 19, 2020 that, political prisoners in Afyon E Type Prison were forced to stand in military order and sing racist anthems during roll-calls. It is also stated in the news reports that petitions written by prisoners to authorities, to inform torture and ill-treatment they have been subjected to, were not sent.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 19, 2020 that, in Silivri Prison, 35 people are kept in wards for 7 people and prisoners are not given sufficient cold and hot water.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 19, 2020 that prisoners in Diyarbakır D Type Prison were not given cleaning supplies and disinfectants to protect themselves from Covid-19 pandemic. It is also stated in the news reports that prisoners were not allowed to buy these products from prison commissary either.

(03/215) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1227 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 19, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(03/216) Detained Co-Mayor in Şırnak…

Berivan Kutlu, co-mayor of Cizre district of Şırnak who was detained through an Urfa based investigation on March 12, 2020, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 19, 2020. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Cizre Municipality.

(03/217) Detained Lawyers, Political Party Executives and Members and Other People through an Urfa Based Investigation…

2 of 7 people including lawyers who were detained in operations in Urfa, Van, Şırnak, Batman and Diyarbakır through an Urfa based investigation on March 12, 2020, are arrested by the court on March 19, 2020. 5 people are released on judicial control conditions. Arrested people are: Mehmet Akdoğan, who was unseated from Diyarbakır city council, and Cevdet Demircioğlu. Thus, the number of arrested people through this investigation is 6 so far.

Mustafa Ahmet Oktay, grant holder of Halk and Pusula newspapers, and executive editor Eren Sarıkaya, are detained for a news report on Covid-19 pandemic, on March 19, 2020 in Bartın. 2 journalists are released by the court on the same day.

(03/219) Detained People for Social Media Posts…

Ministry of Interior declared on March 19, 2020 that, 64 people are detained on the grounds of social media posts about Covid-19 pandemic.

(03/220) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 2 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 168 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on March 19, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4 and total number of confirmed cases is 359 as of March 19, 2020.
