(06/260) Civilian Person Died Due to Fire Opened by Security Forces in Van…

On June 14, 2020, Erhan Görür, a civilian person died and 1 person (Saim Yılmaz) got wounded due to fire opened by security forces in Kaşkol neighbourhood of Başkale district of Van.

Saim Yılmaz in his statements covered by news reports on June 19, 2020, indicates the following: “We put the cigarettes down. They started to hit us with gunstocks. They opened fire although we stopped. A soldier, after I got wounded by gunshot, forces me down on the ground and stepped on my arm. I asked ‘what are you doing’ and he said ‘you are a terrorist I will kill you’. I would have die there if I had not call the local headman (…) When I raised my hands they dragged me on the ground. They insulted me for calling the headman. Erhan felt down when they shot him, I could not see him afterwards. I could only hear him. I heard a gunshot. I did not see anything else (…) They stepped on my wounded arm and insulted me. One of the soldiers said ‘I will sleep well tonight because I killed 2 terrorists’ to his friend”.

It is claimed in the news coverage of June 19, 2020 that 5 civilian people died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Şeladizê region of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 19, 2020 that, 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Haftanin region of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 18, 2020.

Ministry of Defence declared that 1 soldier (Ömer Kahya) died in a clash took place on June 19, 2020 and 1 soldier (Ertuğrul Köse) died in a clash on June 20, 2020, during the operation “Claw-Tiger” to several regions of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

It is learned that 5 soldier got wounded due to roll-over of a military vehicle carrying Border Battalion Command No 1 personnel in Karkamış district of Antep on June 21, 2020.

(06/262) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2020 that prisoners in Urfa T Type Prison No 2 were not given water, despite of Covid-19 pandemic. It is also stated in the news reports that social and cultural rights of prisoners were restricted; letters and packages sent to prisoners were not delivered.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2020 that, ward searches in Muş E Type Prison were conducted with dogs; and that books in Kurdish sent to prisoners were not given to them.

(06/263) Person Subjected to Police Violence in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 19, 2020 that a woman whose name is unknown was subjected to physical violence of the police for not wearing a face mask in İpekyolu district of Van. It is learned that the police used pepper spray to intervene people who react around.

(06/264) Police Intervention to March of Bar Association Chairs in Ankara…

March of bar association chairs to Ankara in order to protest the planned legal amendments about bar associations was prevented by the police at the entrance of Ankara on June 22, 2020. It is learned that bar association chairs held a sit-in protest where they were stopped, and several people including Izmir Bar chair Özkan Yücel, Ankara Bar chair Polat Balkan and Antep Bar chair Bektaş Şarklı were subjected to physical violence of the police. It is reported that journalists following the march were also prevented by the police. Employees of Ankara Municipality who brought tents for bar association chairs were prevented by the police using physical violence and were forced away from the area.

(06/265) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1321 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 19, 2020 at 13.30 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration at 18.00 on June 19, 2020 and detained 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Melek Çetinkaya, Umutcan Aybak). 2 people (Melek Çetinkaya and Umutcan Aybak) were released after medical examination process at the hospital. Nazan Bozkurt who was referred to the prosecutor’s office on the grounds of violating house confinement is released on the same day. It is learned that house confinement condition which was ruled for indefinite time was converted to 1 month of house confinement and judicial control conditions by the court. 

The police intervened the press declarations on June 20 and 21, 2020 at 13.30 and 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/266) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

On June 19, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning in Ankara and forced her away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/267) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the press declaration at Abdullah Cömert Park in Samandağ district of Hatay on June 20, 2020, about Edibe Özçelik who had a heart attack when her house was raided by the police in Samandağ district of Hatay and who died on January 20, 2020; and detained 1 person (Ümit Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained person was released on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration at the same place on June 20, 2020 and detained 2 people (Ümit Özçelik and Filiz Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

(06/268) Interventions to “Democracy March”…

As a part of Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) “Democracy March”, a car convoy which was formed (Purple Convoy) to go to Kandıra F Type Prison from Istanbul was stopped by the police at a control point on Izmit-Kandıra roadway on June 19, 2020. It is learned that the police did not allow anybody to transit apart from parliamentary members and general executives. It is also reported that the police prevented journalists from continuing.

(06/269) Detained City Council Members and Other Person in Diyarbakır…

On June 19, 2020, Diyarbakır city council member Ceylan Aslan, Bismil district council member Emine Akın and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists Jiyan Taş were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır.

(06/270) Detained People in Mersin…

8 people including a 2 months’ pregnant woman who were detained on June 9, 2020 in Mersin are released by the court on June 19, 2020 provided that 1 of them will be on house confinement.

(06/271) Detained People in Bingöl…

On June 19, 2020, 12 people are detained in house raids in districts of Bingöl. The reason of detention is unknown.

Names of detained people learned so far are: Ahmet Gördeğir, Mahmut Pervane, Süleyman Bulut, Giray Önder Polat ve Didem Polat, Ferit Karabağ, Abdurrahman Aksoy, Yüksel Aksoy, Bayram Aksoy.

(06/272) Constitutional Court Decision for Selahattin Demirtaş…

The Constitutional Court concluded on individual appeal of former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş on June 9, 2020 and the court’s ruling is announced on the official gazette on June 19, 2020. The court has concluded that “right to personal liberty and security” of Selahattin Demirtaş was violated as the period that he was kept arrested pending trial has exceeded the reasonable duration and ruled 50.000 Turkish Liras to be paid to Selahattin Demirtaş for non-pecuniary damages. The court also decided to send its ruling to Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 19 which is in charge for the case against Selahattin Demirtaş.

(06/273) Constitutional Court Decision for Eren Erdem…

The Constitutional Court concluded on individual appeal of former Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Eren Erdem on June 9, 2020 and the court’s ruling is announced on the official gazette on June 19, 2020. The court has concluded that “right to personal liberty and security” of Eren Erdem was violated as arrest of him was not lawful and ruled 30.000 Turkish Liras to be paid to Eren Erdem for non-pecuniary damages. The court also decided to send its ruling to Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 which is in charge for the case against Eren Erdem.

(06/274) The Case Against People Evacuated from Nusaybin…

The case against 70 people who were detained and then arrested on May 26, 2016, after being evacuated from the buildings they were stuck in during the curfew on Nusaybin district, is held on June 19, 2020 on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court has decided to separate the case for each defendant and to start proceedings all over again with new case files on April 5, 2019.

The court decided to continue detention of Heja Algan and Abdulkadir Baybars and adjourned their trials to June 29, 2020.

The court sentenced 1 person (Nubahar Özdemir) to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘distributing unity and integrity of the state’ and to 15 years on the charges of ‘attempt to killing’ and ‘damage to public property’. With the last verdicts, 46 people in total are sentenced through this case.

(06/275) Reina Massacre Case…

The trial of the case known as “Reina Massacre Case”, against 58 people including 18 arrestees for the armoured attack to a night club in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul on January 1, 2017 where 39 people died, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 on June 19, 2020. 

The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded heavy life imprisonment for 40 times, and jail sentence up to 1583 years for the assaulter Abdulkadir Masharipov, on the charges of ‘intentional killing’ (of 39 people), ‘attempt to demolish the constitutional order’, ‘attempt to intentional killing’ (of 79 people) and ‘possessing unregistered firearm’. The prosecutor demanded jail sentence up to 632 years for 1 defendant on the charge of aiding Abdulkadir Masharipov, jail sentences up to 18 years for 44 defendants for ‘being an illegal organisation member’, and acquittal for 11 people and separation of the case against 1 defendant.

After defence hearings the court decided to release 1 arrested defendant and to continue detention of other arrestees and adjourned the trial to September 7, 2020.

(06/276) Curfew in Tatvan…

Bitlis Governorate announced a curfew on June 19, 2020 in 15 villages of Tatvan district as of 06.30 on June 19, 2020 until a further notice.

Villages under curfew are: Kısıklı, Kepenek, Suboyu, Dirlik, Aktoprak, Dönertaş, Boblesür, Sallıca, Teknecik, Beşikli, Sarıdal, Yorgalar, Yumrukaya, Uçankuş and Çörekli.

(06/277) Ban of Events in Tunceli…

Tunceli Governorate has made a declaration on June 18, 2020 and announced that, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, hunger strikes, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, hanging banners and posters, delivering leaflets, carrying torches, conferences, seminars and so on are banned as of 00:01 on June 19, 2020 until 23:59 on July 3, 2020.

(06/278) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

81 of 150 people inducing military members on active duty who were detained through an Izmir based investigation are arrested by the court on June 19, 2020. 69 people are released provided that 13 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

On June 20, 2020 adjutant of Major General Ali Serin, Head of Intelligence Department of Presidency of General Staff, is detained in Malatya.

(06/279) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 23 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,214 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 19, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 22 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,248 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 20, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 23 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,192 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 21, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,950 and total number of confirmed cases is 187,685 as of June 21, 2020.
