(06/197) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Ministry of National Defence declared on June 15, 2020 that Turkish Armed Forces launched a military operation to Sincar, Karacak, Qandil, Zap, Avasin Basyan and Hakurk region in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(06/198) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2020 that, social, cultural and sports rights of prisoners in Istanbul Silivri L Type Prison No 5 are restricted on the grounds of Covid-19 pandemic.

(06/199) Interventions to “Democracy March” …

The police used rubber bullets and pepper spray to intervene the group including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP’s marching from Silivri to Edirne on June 15, 2020, as a part of “Democracy March” organized by HDP. It is learned that 9 people were detained and they were released on the same day. It is reported that parliamentary members were also subjected to physical violence of the police.

It is also learned that the press declaration in front of Edirne F Type Prison on June 15, 2020 was prevented by gendarmerie and the press declaration was held in somewhere else.

The police prevented the group including HDP MP’s coming from Hakkari to Van, from entering Van city on June 15, 2020 and intervened them. It is learned that several people were detained and they were released on the same day. It is reported that parliamentary members were also subjected to physical violence of the police.

(06/200) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1315 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 15, 2020 at 13.30 and 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/201) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protest in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on June 1,5 2020, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and forced Mahmut Konuk away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/202) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Düzce…

On June 15, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/203) People Detained in Ankara While Distributing Leaflets…

On June 15, 2020, 3 members of Mamak Platform (Zarife Çamalan, Sibel Göktaş, Hüseyin Gencay) who were distributing leaflets about June 15-16 Workers Resistance, in Tuzluçayır neighbourhood of Mamak district of Ankara, are detained by the police. 

(06/204) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protest on June 15, 2020 in front of Justice and Development Party (AKP) headquarters in Ankara, of people who were injured during July 15 coup attempt, claiming that the donations collected for them did not reach them and they did not get what they have been promised. It is learned that several people were detained and at least 2 people were injured. Names and number of detained people are unknown.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2020 that, an investigation on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is initiated against a person named Harun Karanfilci, for his social media posts in 2013; although Abdullah Gül was President back then. It is reported that Harun Karanfilci gave his official statement to the Prosecutor’s Office.

(06/206) Ban and Restriction of Events in Three Cities…

Mardin Governorate has made a declaration on June 15, 2020 and announced that, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, hunger strikes, commemorations, hanging banners and posters, delivering leaflets, collecting petitions, carrying torches, conferences, seminars and so on are subjected to permission of civil administration in local as of June 15, 2020 until July 15, 2020.

Istanbul Governorate made a declaration on June 15, 2020 and banned all open-door events except for press declarations in political party offices with less than 50 people; entrance of supporters of these events into the city and exit of people to support events in other cities, according to Provincial Health and Hygiene Board decision.

Batman Governorate made a declaration on June 15, 2020 and banned all open-door events, entrance of supporters of these events into the city and exit of people to support events in other cities, as of June 15, 2020 until June 20, 2020, according to Provincial Health and Hygiene Board decision.

(06/207) Investigation Against Judges…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2020 that, 4 judges were reported to Board of Judges and Prosecutors by lawyers of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chair Devlet Bahçeli, on the grounds of “their deeds and actions form the opinion that they would not perform their duties properly and objectively”. These 4 judges were on duty at Antalya Penal Court of First Instance No 27, which acquitted the person on trial for saying “turncoat” and “spare tire of AKP” to Devlet Bahçeli; and at Antalya Regional Court Penal Department No 1, which approved the acquittal of the first court. It is reported that Board of Judges and Prosecutors initiated an investigation against 4 judges after getting permission from Ministry of Justice Abdülhamit Gül.

(06/208) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 15, 2020, 34 poeple are detained in Istanbul, 9 poeple are detained in Ankara, 5 poeple are detained in Samsun and 2 people are detained in Mersin.

(06/209) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 18 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,592 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 15, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,825 and total number of confirmed cases is 179,831 as of June 15, 2020.
