(04/105) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that 1 HPG militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Zap area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 6, 2020.

It is learned that 1 civilian (Yasin Sağır) who was working at military post construction in rural areas of Silopi district of Şırnak died due to an explosion near the construction site on April 14, 2020.

(04/106) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that, 6 prisoners in Van T Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of the wardens for rejecting to stand in military order during roll-calls. It is stated in the news reports that prisoners were injured due to violence and a prisoner, Burhan Hısım, who was injured at the left eye, has the risk of losing his eye. It is also reported that prisoners were subjected to disciplinary proceedings as a result of which they were prevented from communication rights.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that prisoners in Balıkesir Bandırma T Type Prison No 2 were not given disinfectants, cleaning supplies, face masks and gloves despite of Covid-19 pandemic.

It is claimed in the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison, face masks to protect from Covid-19 pandemic were sold to prisoners although the government has announced that face masks would be free of charge.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that, administration of Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No 4 initiated disciplinary proceedings against prisoners who release to public via their families the fact that there were no precautions taken for Covid-19 pandemic, and those prisoners were penalised with prevention of visit rights.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2020 that, Fatma Özbay, an ill prisoner with cancer in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison was not taken to hospital for examination and treatment.

(04/108) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1253 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 14, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(04/109) Gendarmerie Intervention Against a Protest in Izmir…

The gendarmerie intervened the press declaration in front of Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison on April 14, 2020, which was held to support Mustafa Koçak who is on hunger strike in prison to demand a fair trial for 288 days. 9 people are detained by gendarmerie; it is learned that a finger of 1 person (Volkan Algül) was dislocated during intervention. Detained people (Hasan Koçak, Zeynep Koçak, Kader İnci, Erdinç İnci, Mahir Kılıç, Ayça Kılıç, Sercan Çakır, Volkan Algül, Hüseyin Sezgin) were released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that journalist Metehan Ud, who was reporting on asylum seekers waiting at Izmir Bus Station on April 14, 2020, was intervened by the police. It is learned that Metehan Ud was taken to Işıkkent Police Station and was released after being fined in accordance with the Law on Misdemeanour.

Tugay Köse, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) representative in Fındıklı district of Rize who was detained for his social media posts on April 13, 2020, is released on April 14, 2020.

(04/104) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 107 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 4,062 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 14, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 1,403 and total number of confirmed cases is 65,111 as of April 14, 2020.
