(03/140) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 11, 2020 that, 11 prisoners who were transferred from Tarsus T Type Prison to Aksaray T Type Prison on February 28, 2020; and who were subjected to physical violence during transfer and at the entrance of the prison, were then out in solitary cells. It is also stated in the news reports that prisoners who were injured due to violence were not treated.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 11, 2020, in Tarsus Women’s Prison food for only 6 people is given to wards for 14 people.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 11, 2020 that, 6 journalists (Barış Pehlivan, Barış Terkoğlu, Hülya Kılınç, Murat Ağırel, Aydın Keser and Ferhat Çelik) who were arrested for news reports on a national intelligence officer died in Libya, and who were put in Silivri Prison, were kept alone in cells for 3 people.

(03/141) Intervention to Grup Yorum Band Members on Hunger Strike…

It is learned that Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 18 ordered involuntary hospitalization of Grup Yorum band members İbrahim Gökçek (on hunger strike for 268 days) and Helin Bölek (on hunger strike for 265 days) on March 11, 2020.

(03/142) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1219 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 11, 2020 at 13.30, and forced people away from the monument.

(03/143) Co-Mayors and Other People on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against Mehmet Fatih Taş and Fatma Ay, co-mayors of Kulp district of Diyarbakır, and HDP district co-chair Mehmet Abidin Karaman, Kulp Municipality Civil Works Director Şener Aktaş, Mehmet Emin Ay and Kulp district council Yücel Çete and Ümit Fidan, on the charges of ‘killing on purpose’, ‘disrupting the integrity and unity of the country’, ‘intentional killing by causing fire, flood, destruction, sinking, bombing or by using nuclear, biological or chemical weapons’ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on March 11, 2020.

The court rejected to lift judicial control conditions on 7 people and adjourned the trial to June 17, 2020.

Mehmet Fatih Taş, Fatma Ay, Şener Aktaş and Mehmet Emin Ay were detained through the investigation after bombing attack on September 12, 2019 in Kulp district where 7 people died and were arrested on September 16, 2019. 4 people were released on judicial control conditions on December 11, 2019. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Kulp Municipality on September 17, 2019.

The police intervened the protest of Alev Şahin, to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate building on March 11, 2020 and detained Alev Şahin.

(03/145) Prevention to Lawyers in Edirne…

It is learned that visit of chairs of bar associations in Istanbul, Antalya, Tekirdağ and Kırklareli and lawyers from these bar associations, in order to observe right violations against asylum seekers in Pazarkule border line in Edirne on March 11, 2020 is prevented by the police on the grounds of governorate’s ban.

(03/146) Ban of Event in Izmir…

It is learned that press declaration to be held on March 12, 2020 at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center in Izmir, to protest the ban of the event “Freedom to Art – We Want Grup Yorum Alive” which was to be held at the same place on the same day, was also banned. Izmir Governorate has banned the event organized by several trade unions, professional organisations and democratic organisations on March 11, 2020.

(03/147) Proceedings for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 11, 2020 that, General Directorate of Security initiated proceedings against 29 people on the grounds of ‘sharing worrisome social media posts about corona virus’.
