(04/062) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

5 people who died due to an explosion on road in rural areas of Güleç neighbourhood of Kulp district of Diyarbakır on April 8, 2020 are identified. Names of 5 people: Hacı Akdeniz, Alaattin Yıldız, Ahmet Erboğa, Burhan Tanrıkulu and Sedat Hazar.

(04/063) Suspicious Death in Prison…

It is claimed in the news coverage of April 8, 2020 that a 17 years old child, Ali Erdoğan, killed himself in his ward in Aliağa Şakran Prison in Izmir. It is reported that Ali Erdoğan’s body is not given to his family but kept at Izmir Forensic Medicine Institution mortuary to carry on Covid-19 test. Ali Erdoğan’s relative Abdulkadir Erdoğan states the following: “When we see Ali at the mortuary we noticed some bruises on his body. We asked about it but nobody answered. We have no idea about what happened to Ali, why he died. Prison administration is not giving any information”.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2020 that, despite of Covid-19 pandemic, 2 wards with 16 prisoners in Van T Type Prison is united as 1 ward, and prisoners are not given cleaning supplies and disinfectants. It is also stated in the news reports that radios and books of prisoners are seized and prisoners are forced to stand in military order during roll-calls.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2020 that, prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison who hold a protest for Grup Yorum music band member Helin Bölek who lost her life in a death fast, were subjected to physical violence of the wardens. It is reported that some prisoners got injured due to violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2020 that a 6-months restriction is ordered on February 13, 2020 by Imrali F Type Prison Administration and Supervision Board for PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktaş. It is also stated in the news reports that information request about precautions in prison for Covid-19 pandemic is rejected by Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1247 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 8, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration about Grup Yorum band member Helin Bölek who lost her life in death fast, and Grup Yorum member İbrahim Gökçek and Mustafa Koçak who are still on death fast, on April 8, 2020 in front of Justice and Development Party (AKP) Istanbul office; and detained 2 people (Cemile Temizkalp and Aydın Duru).

The police intervened Labour Party (EMEP) members hanging banners about Covid-19 pandemic, in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, and detained 2 people (Çorlu district chair Erdal Koçer and party member Kenan Işık).

(04/068) HDP Executive on Trial in Urfa…

The first trial of the case against Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Eyyubiye district co-chair Ömer Bozdal and physician Rezan Altundağ, on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 8, 2020.

Ömer Bozdal and Rezan Altundağ joined the trial via sound and vision system from Urfa T Type Closed Prison. After defence hearings the court released 2 people and adjourned the trial. Ömer Bozdal and Rezan Altundağ were detained and arrested on October 9, 2019, right after Turkish Armed Forces military operation to north and east Syria was launched.

Urfa Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the grounds of ‘inciting fear and panic among people’, against Urfa Medical Chamber chair Ömer Melik, for the report of the chamber on Covid-19. It is learned that Ömer Melik gave his official statement through this investigation on April 8, 2020.

(04/070) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 87 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 4,117 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 8, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 812 and total number of confirmed cases is 38,226 as of April 8, 2020.
