(07/023) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 2, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 2, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Gülnaz Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Acun Karadağ, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 2, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(07/024) Journalist on Trial in Muş…

The case against Seda Taşkın, reporter of Mezopotamya News Agency, on Muş Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on July 2, 2018. After defence hearings, the court decided to continue detention for Seda Taşkın and adjourned the trial to September 12, 2018.

Seda Taşkın was detained on December 20, 2017 in Muş, and was released on juridical control conditions by the court on December 23, 2017. Taşkın was detained once again in Ankara, on January 22, 2018, upon the prosecutor’s office’s objection and was arrested for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on January 23, 2018.

(07/025) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On July 2, 2018, 4 people are detained through a Balıkesir based investigation on military personnel in Coast Guard Command, Naval Forces and Land Forces. With the last detentions, the number of detainees through this investigation since June 28, 2018 raised up to 22 including 2 majors and 4 lieutenants.

On June 2, 2018, 19 of 68 military members (including 19 on active duty) for whom a detention warrant was issued through an Ankara based investigation, are detained in operations covering 19 cities. It is reported that the warrant includes 22 colonels and 27 lieutenant colonels dismissed by the state of emergency decree.

On July 2, 2018, in operations covering 10 cities, 3 of 13 people (including 11 military members on active duty) for whom a detention warrant was issued through a Tokat based investigation; and in Balıkesir, 1 person with a warrant, are detained.

(07/026) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 4 former teachers, dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 6 is held on July 2, 2018. The court sentenced 4 former teachers to jail penalties differing from 8 years 1 month and 15 days to 12 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 15 people (including 1 fugitive and 7 arrestees), for the incidents happened in Istanbul Stock Exchange in Sarıyer district of Istanbul, during the July 15 coup attempt, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 20 is held on July 2, 2018. The court sentenced 2 defendants to heavy life penalty for 3 times, one for ‘violating the Constitution’ and 2 times for ‘wilful murder’. The court separated the case of 1 fugitive defendant, and decided not to sentence 12 defendants for any allegations.

(07/027) Elections on June 24, 2018…

5 of 10 members of CHP, including former CHP Youth Section executive Ramazan Gökoğlu, who were detained for protesting the fraud in elections, in front of Antalya Courthouse on June 28, 2018, are detained by the court on July 2, 2018. The names of arrestees are: Salih Ulus, Mahir Şen, Burhan Çalışkan, Veli Yeşilçay, Bahadır Poze.
