(05/334) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 24, 2019 that 5 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Diyarbakır on April 29, 2019; and 4 militants died in a clash in rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on May 13, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 26, 2019 that, 1 HPG militant died in an air bombardment to Qandil area of Iraq by Turkish Air Forces on May 21, 2019.

It is learned that 1 soldier (Yaşar Yıldırım) who was injured in an attack to Turkish Armed Forces in Syria on April 30, 2019, died in hospital on May 27, 2019.

It is learned that 1 soldier got wounded due to an explosion in rural areas of Aralık district of Iğdır on May 27, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 2 militants died in a clash in rural areas of Arıcak district of Elazığ on May 23, 2019.

(05/335) Interventions to Prisoners Who Ended Hunger Strike in Prisons…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 1, were examined in handcuffs and on foot in hospital and then were taken back to prison. It is learned that prisoners have bruises on their bodies due to bloodletting.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 3 prisoners (Cengaver Aykul, Serkan Eren and Yasin Güngör) who ended hunger strike in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2, spit blood because their medical treatment has not started yet.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, one of the prisoners who ended hunger strike in Urfa Siverek T Type Prison, fainted during bloodletting while he was on foot and handcuffed behind his back, which results in a wound at his head that required three stitches.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 13 of 26 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Urfa Siverek T Type Prison, are referred to hospital and remaining 13 prisoners will be treated in prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 21 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Diyarbakır D Type Prison, and Diyarbakır Women’s Prison are handcuffed to beds in the hospital where they were referred for treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison were not referred to hospital and they are treated in prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, Kahraman Muslu, Şahin Öncü, Barış Kahraman, Recep Altındağ, Hakan Tunç, Ümit Keskin, Kamuran Sunbat, Uğur Uyar, prisoners who ended hunger strike in Van High Security Prison, Van F Type Prison and Van T Type Prison who were referred to Dursun Odabaşı Medical Center; where they rejected to be treated because of poor conditions of detention ward there. It is learned that the prisoners were taken back to prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that 4 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison, were not treated at the hospital in prison compound where they were taken to. It is reported that prisoners were taken back to prison after some medical tests had been done.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, families of prisoners who ended hunger strike in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison, made an official complaint to Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office about ill-treatment and right violations. It is stated in the complaint petition that gendarmerie officers on duty insult prisoners and prevent medical treatment of prisoners.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 6 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Ağrı Patnos Prison were treated on foot at the hospital and they were taken back to prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, 2 of 14 prisoners who ended hunger strike in Giresun E Type Prison were referred to hospital and 12 of them were treated on foot in prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2019 that, lawyers demanded an appointment with Ağrı Patnos Prison administration about the condition of the prisoners who ended hunger strike, but their demand was rejected.

(05/336) Journalist Attacked in Ankara…

It is learned that 4 people who were detained for the attack to journalist Sabahattin Önkibar near his house in Ankara on May 26, 2019, are released on judicial control conditions on May 27, 2019.

It is learned from the news reports that, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) made an official complaint against Sabahattin Önkibar, on the grounds that “he uses insulting expressions against MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli”.

(05/337) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 930 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 27, 2019 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on May 27, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on May 27, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(05/338) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on May 27, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Mahmut Konuk and 1 more person). It is learned that 2 people were released the same day.

On May 27, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Batuhan Şendağ) who wanted to have a protest at Özgürlük Square in Bakırköy district of Istanbul, to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, are detained by police.

(05/340) People Arrested for Attending Protests in Istanbul…

Nursel Tanrıverdi and Selvi Polat, who were detained and then arrested on May 14, 2019, at the police intervention to the sit-in protest they had in Bakırköy district of Istanbul to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees; are released by the court on May 27, 2019. Nursel Tanrıverdi and Selvi Polat were arrested and released 4 times by the court so far, and were acquitted on 6 different cases opened against them.

(05/341) Detained Executive of HDP in Diyarbakır…

Berat Kıran, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member, is detained at Diyarbakır Security Directorate where he had been to give a statement on May 27, 2019. It is learned that Berat Kıran was taken to Izmir, where the investigation is based, on the same day.

Kamil T., a person who was detained in Eskişehir, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in social media posts, is arrested by the court on May 27, 2019.

(05/343) CHP Istanbul Chair on Trial…

It is learned that Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 accepted the indictment prepared by Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against Canan Kaftancıoğlu, CHP’s Istanbul chair, on May 27, 2019. The first trial will be held on June 28, 2019.

The indictment demands sentence for Canan Kaftancıoğlu, for ‘insulting the President’, ‘insulting a public officer due to his duty’, publicly degrading the Republic of Turkey’, ‘publicly inciting hatred and hostility among people’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, on the grounds of her social media posts.

(05/344) Former Co-Mayors on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Halis Coşkun and Memnune Söylemez, former co-mayors of Malazgirt district municipality, is held on Muş Heavy Penal Court No 2 on May 27, 2019. The court sentenced Halis Coşkun to 12 years and Memnune Söylemez to 8 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation’.

Halis Coşkun and Memnune Söylemez were detained on November 24, 2016 and were arrested by the court on November 29, 2016. The Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Malazgirt Municipality on December 2, 2016.
