(07/268) Person Threatened by a Police Officer on Social Media…
It is learned from news coverage of July 24, 2018 that, Nuri Başkapan, a person who shared a video criticising Menzil religious sect on his social media account, was threatened by Ahmet Aker, a police officer in Sivas. It is reported that Ahmet Aker commented on the post as following: “My name is Ahmet Aker. I am a police captain in Sivas. I will be your Azrael and take your life”. It is learned that Nuri Başkapan made an official complaint to Sivas Public Prosecutor’s Office.
(07/269) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from news coverage of July 24, 2018 that, prisoners in Osmaniye T Type Prison were subjected to physical violence by wardens. It is stated in the news reports that a prisoner named Abdülkadir Baysal is kept in a single cell. One relative of the prisoners, said the following in the statements covered by the news reports: “My son said today ‘they torture my friends and I cannot do anything for them’. They wake up every day with the sounds of torture”.
(07/270) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 24, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.
It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 24, 2018, 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 2 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) were detained.
Thus in total 3 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 24, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

Ergin Çağlar, a reporter of Mezopotamya news agency, is detained by the gendarmerie based on a detention warrant, during a road check in Pazarcık district of Maraş.

Ali Kılıçgedik, a business person who was detained in Istanbul, on the charge of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media, is arrested by the court on July 24, 2018.

On July 24, 2018, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated a proceeding against HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan, due to her statements to criticize prosecutions against some of HDP MP’s because they have attended funerals of HPG militants and to indicate that expressing condolences is a cultural duty and responsibility.

The case against Sara Kaya, co-mayor of Nusaybin district of Mardin, on the charge of ‘disrupt the unity and territorial integrity of the state’, on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on July 24, 2018. Sara Kaya attended the trial via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention for Sara Kaya and adjourned the trial to September 21, 2018.

9 of 15 military members on active duty, including 2 majors and 2 lieutenants, who were detained through a Kars based investigation are arrested by the court on July 24, 2018. 6 people are released on juridical control conditions.
3 of 4 people who were detained on July 23, 2018 in Edirne, for illegally attempting to flee, are arrested by the court on July 24, 2018. 1 person is referred to Adana through another investigation.
21 of 69 people who were detained through a Muş based investigation are arrested by the court on July 24, 2018. 48 people, 4 of which on juridical control conditions are released.

The final trial of the case against Muammer Karaboğa, a former police officer who were dismissed by the state of emergency decree, on Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 13 is held on July 24, 2018. The court sentenced Muammer Karaboğa to 6 years 10 months and 15 days for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
The final trial of the case against 3 people (Mustafa Özyurt, Fatih Çetinkaya and Bayram Gökçek) on Kayseri Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on July 24, 2018. The court sentenced 3 defendants each to 8 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
(07/277) Special Security Zone in Şırnak…
Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on July 24, 2018 and announced that 7 areas with given coordinates in Güçlükonak district, are special security zones from July 25, 2018 to August 8, 2018.
