(06/123) Person Died in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2019 that Y.E., a prisoner kept in Urfa T Type Prison No 2 died in Hilvan Public Hospital where he was taken to.

(06/124) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is claimed on the news coverage of June 18, 2019 that the wardens in Elazığ High Security Prison No 1 left prayer rugs in solitary cells and prisoners kept in those cells were subjected to physical violence of the wardens on the grounds of not performing prayers.

(06/125) Letters Were Not Given to Prisoners…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2019 that letters sent by People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Urfa MP Ömer Öcalan to 82 prisoners in Van High Security Prison and Afyon E Type Prison, were not given to prisoners on the grounds of “being inconvenient”.

(06/126) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 952 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 18, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 18, 2019, 2 people (Merve Demirel and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Merve Demirel and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 18, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

Çiya Şenses, soloist of Koma Gulen Xerzan music band, is detained in a house raid in Istanbul on June 18, 2019. It is learned that the reason of detention is the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in the songs he sang in several events.

(06/128) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 3 academicians (Research Assistants Kumru Çılgın and Barış Göğüş from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and PhD student Dilek Çankaya from Ankara University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on June 18, 2019. The court decided to wait for the appeal to The Constitutional Court for the cases against Dilek Çankaya, Kumru Çılgın and Barış Göğüş and adjourned the trials to October 1, 2019.

The separate cases against 7 academicians (PhD Ceren Lord from Kadir Has University, Professor Selim Eyüboğlu from Bahçeşehir University, Professor Zeynep Sayın from Artuklu University, Assist. Professor Seher Şen from Izmir Economy University, Assist. Professor Lülüfer Körükmez from Ege University, Assist. Professor Kıvılcım Turanlı from Anadolu University, Ayşe Dayı from Istanbul 29 Mayıs University) for the same reason are held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 on June 18, 2019. The court decided to send the cases against Zeynep Sayın, Seher Şen, Lülüfer Körükmez and Kıvılcım Turanlı to related cities on the grounds of lack of venue situation. The court decided to send a writ to the Ministry of Justice in order to continue proceeding against Ayşe Dayı according to Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code. The court adjourned the trial of the case against Ceren Lord to November 12, 2019.

The separate cases against 3 academicians (Research Assistant Mehmet Mutlu from METU, F.C. and Assoc. Professor Canani Kaygusuz from 19 Mayıs University) for the same reason are held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on June 18, 2019. The court decided to send the case against Mehmet Mutlu to Ankara Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue situation. The court decided to send a writ to the Ministry of Justice in order to continue proceeding against F.C. according to Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code. The court decided to send the case against Canani Kaygusuz to Samsun Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue situation.

The separate cases against 2 academicians (Lecturer R.T. from Sabancı University and PhD student B.S. from Boğaziçi University) for the same reason are held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on June 18, 2019. The court sentenced R.T. to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict. The court adjourned the trial of the case against B.S. to September 19, 2019.

The case against Assoc. Professor Ayşe Parla from Sabancı University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on June 18, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to October 25, 2019.

The case against Research Assistant Taylan Banguoğlu from Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29 on June 18, 2019. The court decided to send the case to Muğla Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue situation.

The case against Research Assistant Onur Baysal from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 on June 18, 2019. The court sentenced Onur Baysal to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(06/129) HDP MP on Trial…

The final trial of the case against HDP Hakkari MP and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven and Mehmet Öcalan and Fatma Öcalan, for the events organized on Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday, is held on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 6 on June 18, 2019. The court acquitted 3 people.

(06/130) DBP Executive on Trial in Mardin…

The case against Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member Bayram Demirhan and Davut Bozan, Mehmet Ali Dayan, Mehmet Ceylan, Hasan İlhan on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on June 18, 2019. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of arrested 3 people (Bayram Demirhan, Mehmet Ceylan, Davut Bozan) and adjourned the trial to September 5, 2019.

(06/131) EMEP Executive on Trial in Bursa…

The final trial of the case against Labour Party (EMEP) Bursa chair Hasan Özaydın, on the grounds of protesting Turkish Armed Forces’ military operation of Afrin, is held on Bursa Heavy Penal Court No 10 on June 18, 2019. The court acquitted Hasan Özaydın.

(06/132) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 18, 2019, 11 people are detained in operations covering 8 cities through an Ankara based investigation.
