(08/088) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2019 that, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel submitted a parliamentary question addressing Abdülhamit Gül, the Minister of Justice, on right violations at Elazığ Prisons No 1 and 2. It is stated in the parliamentary question that prisoners were subjected to stand up during roll-calls, and were subjected to insults and arbitrary solitary cell confinement, prisoners were not given books, magazines and newspapers and their personal belongings were seized, and lastly, on August 5, 2019, almost 15 prisoners were subjected to physical violence of the wardens where Medeni Kiye, one of those prisoners, lost his ability to speak due to violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2019 that, HDP Mersin MP Fatma Kurtulan submitted a parliamentary question addressing Abdülhamit Gül, the Minister of Justice, on right violations at Osmaniye Prison No 2. It is stated in the parliamentary question that prisoners were subjected to stand up during roll-calls, and to be medically examined in handcuffs, prisoners were either referred to hospitals with delay or not referred at all, and prisoners who reject to stand up during roll-calls were subjected to physical violence of the wardens.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2019 that, HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven submitted a parliamentary question addressing Abdülhamit Gül, the Minister of Justice, on right violations at Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison. It is stated in the parliamentary question that the food given to prisoners is not sanitary and prisoners were prevented from obtaining alternative food from prison canteen.

(08/089) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2019 that, Mehmet Adsiz, a prisoner in Elazığ Prison No 1, went on a hunger strike as of July 29, 2019, to protest right violations he was subjected to. It is stated in the news reports that Mehmet Adsiz has a perforated eardrum due to physical violence he has been subjected to and that he was being kept in a solitary cell for a while.

(08/090) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1010 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 15, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 15, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Acun Karadağ and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 15, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(08/091) Detained City Council Member and HDP Members in Mardin…

It is learned that at least 7 people including Nusaybin district council member from HDP, are detained in house raids in Kızıltepe, Nusaybin and Savur districts of Mardin on August 14, 2019. The names of detained people known so far are: Nusaybin district council member Zeynep Sevlüş, HDP members Hatip Öncü, Ferhat Öncü, Hamza Ağırman, Abdulkadir Tatı, Faysal Taş, Erhan Mutlu.

(08/092) Detained City Council Member and HDP Members in Şırnak…

It is learned that at least 20 people including Mehmet Eraslan, İdil district council member from HDP, and Güler Tunç, HDP’s district co-chair are detained in house raids in İdil and Cizre districts of Şırnak on August 14, 2019. It is reported that Güler Tunç was released on August 15, 2019.

(08/093) Detained People in Izmir…

On August 15, 2019, 13 people including HDP’s Narlıdere district co-chair Mehmet Gül, are detained in house raids in Izmir. The names of detained people known so far are: Mehmet Gül, Bedran Aydın, Yasin Dalbudak, Deniz Yılmaz, Şevket Topkaya, Özcan Ertan, Yaşar Kaçar, Murat İşge.

(08/094) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on August 15, 2019 and announced that all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins and opening stands and so on are banned as of August 12, 2019 until August 26, 2019.
