(04/127) The Person Shot by Gendarmaire for Disobeying Stop Warning in Urfa…

It is learned that a person named Resul Ersan was heavily injured after being shot by gendairmaire for ‘disobeying stop warning’ on a check point on Urfa-Antep road on April 11, 2018. Resul Ersan was the driver of the car which was claimed not to stop at the checkpoint. It is reported that Resul Ersan, who was taken to Birecik Public Hospital has a risk of death.

It is learned that on April 11, 2018, in a clash between security forces and HPG militants during an operation of Turkish Armed Forces in Kani Rash in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, 1 soldier died and 3 soldiers are injured.

It is learned from news coverage of April 11, 2018 that in a clash between security forces and HPG militants on rural areas of Pülümür district of Tunceli on April 4, 2018, 7 militans died.

It is learned from news coverage of April 11, 2018 that in clashes between security forces and militants during an opration of Turkish Armed Forces in Bradost in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on March 17, 2018 2 militants died and on March 22, 2018 during an air operation in the same region 1 militant died.

 (04/129) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of April 11, 2018 that in Silivri L Type Prison No 6, prisoners and their families were subjected to the physical violence of the wardens during the contact visit on March 28, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of April 11, 2018 that in Silivri L Type Prison No 9, a political prisoner named Gökhan Güneş was put into the same detention room with prisoners judged for being ISIS member, after he had a medical operation.

It is learned from news coverage of April 11, 2018 that in Tekirdağ F Type Prisons No 1 and No 2, the open areas of the wards where ordinary prisoners and “Fethullahist terrorist organization/Parallel state structure investigation” prisoners stay were closed with wire fences, and in F Type Prison No 1, the books sent to the prisoners were not given to them.

 

People’s Law Office issued a declaration on April 11, 2018 and announced that 2 prisoners, Ayberk Demirdöğen and Latif Mollaahmetoğlu in Bolu F Type Prison were handcuffed behind in the open area of their wards and then were subjected to the physical violence of the wardens for half an hour.

(04/130) Rejection of Meeting Request with AbdullahÖcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 10, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 745th time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(04/131) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 11, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on April 11, 2018, 3 people (Mehmet Dersulu, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 4 people (Acun Karadağ, Selvi Polat, Nazan Bozkurt, and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 7 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on April 12, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

Naif Yaşar, who was detained for his social media posts, after his house in Van was raided on April 11, 2018 is released on juridical conditions on the same day by the court.

(04/133) Journalist Detained in Diyarbakır…

In house raids in Silvan district of Diyarbakır on April 11, 2018, 4 people including the owner of Silvan Mücadele neswpaper Ferhat Parlak. The names of detainees are: Ferhat Parlak, Ercan Aşıcı, Eyüb Bakıcı, Mithat Altaç.

Middleeast representative of TELE1 channel and ABC newspaper Ömer Ödemiş, who was detained through an Ankara based investigation in Hatay on April 8, 2018 and then taken to Ankara is released on juridical control conditions by the court on April 11, 2018.

(04/135) Detained and Arrested HDP and DBP Members and Executives…

Burhan Karakoç, HDP council member is detained in a house raid in Diyarbakır on April 11, 2018.

14 people including HDP and DBP executives and members are detained in house raids in Bismil district of Diyarbakır on April 11, 2018. The names of detainees are: Nesibe Uygun, Kerem Amaç, Gülşen Çalın, Yeşim Yılmaz, Ömer Gökalp, Halit Sevim, Mustafa Baz, Yasin Karabulut, Edip Oruç, Edibe Esmer, Bayram Akduman, Felemez Bulut, Zarife Bakır, Ömer Yıldız.

2 of 12 people who were detained through an investigation against HDP members in İpekyolu district of Van on April 3, 2018 are arrested by the court for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on April 11, 2018. 10 people are released on juridical control conditions. The names of arresttes are: HDP İpekyolu district co-chair Tahirhan Sayyiğit and Ali Beyaz.

In house raids in Çayırova district of Kocaeli on April 11, 2018, HDP district co-chairs Şahismail Tohumcu and Emine Karaaslan are detained. The reason for detention is unknown. It is learned that the police conducted searches in the party office as well as their houses and seized all documents.

2 executives of EMEP (Ankara city executive Rüstem Kahraman and Yenimahalle district executive Özlem Boyraz Özel) who were in house raids in Ankara on April 9, 2018, are released on juridical control conditions by the court on April 11, 2018.

7 members of FKF including central executive committee member Deniz Aydın who were detained in house raids in Ankara on April 9, 2018, are released on juridical control conditions by the court on April 11, 2018.

10 of 15 people who were detained for their social media posts, in Izmir on April 4, 2018, are arrested by the court for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on April 11, 2018. 5 people are released on juridical control conditions.

On April 11, 2018 8 people in Ceyhan district of Adana are detained after house raids for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘insulting the President’ in their social media posts.

20 students of Ardahan University are detained after house raids in Ardahan on April 11, 2018. The names of detainees learned so far are: Elif Yaylagülü, Hasret Çelik, Evin Güçlü, Haydar Avcı, Rojda Gül, Fırat Orta, Ayşe Özboğa, Burhan Koçhan, Fırat Acıklı, Üzeyir Alçı, Berat Bingöl, Esma Özsoy, Sümeyye Etik, Rahşan Yobaş, Selahattin Dursun, Yunus Altın, Murat Elmas, Mekan Ulaş and Selva (unknown).

(04/141) Trial of Eren Keskin…

The penalty fine of 3000 Turkish Liras given to Eren Keskin, co-chief editor of Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by the state of emergency decree is upholded by Istanbul Regional Court. The reason for the fine was Eren Keskin’s “Radikal Kötülük” (Radical Evil) article on the newspaper.

(04/142) Trial of Journalists in Istanbul…

The sentences given to Nuran Candan, chief editor, Kemal Sancılı, publisher, and Ziya Çiçekçi former publisher of Demokratik Ulus newspaper were reversed by Istanbul Regional Court for “insufficient proof” and “excess penalty”. Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 re-hold the case on April 11, 2018 and disregarded the reversal of the supreme court and sentenced Nuran Candan, Kemal Sancılı and Ziya Çiçekçi to 3 years and 9 months (for each) for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organisation’ .

(04/143) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The case against academicians Onur Buğra Kolucu and Emrah Dönmez for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ continued to be held on April 11, 2018.

The court approved the excuse and time demands and adjourned the trials to July 6, 2018.

 (04/144) HDP Members and Executives on Trial in Manisa…

The case against 30 people (8 arresttees) including HDP members and executives on Manisa Heavy Penal Court No 3 is continued to be held on April 11, 2018. Fadile Göktürk, whose demand for defending herself in Kurdish was rejected in the previous trial repeated the same demand. After defence hearings, it is learned that the prosecutor demanded release on juridical control conditions for 1 people and continuation of detention for 7 people with no reason, and upon being asked by the lawyers, stated that “the reason is clear”. The court released 2 defendants (Fadile Göktürk and Kerem Taylan) on juridical control conditions and decided on continuation of detention for 6 defendants and adjourned the trial to June 22, 2018.

The case was opened against 138 people including HDP members and executives and on the trial held on December 20, 2017 the court decided to seperate the case into 3 different cases and adjourned the trials to April 4, 11 and 24, 2018.

(04/145) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

6 people captured in an operation of National Intelligence Organisation in Kosovo and then taken to Turkey are arrested by the court on April 11, 2018. The names of arrestees are: Cihan Özkan, Kahraman Demirez, Hasan Hüseyin Günakan, Mustafa Erdem, Osman Karakaya and Yusuf Karabina.

On Aril 11, 2018, in operations covering 24 cities through an Izmir based investigation 34 people, in Adana 6 people, in Çanakkale 13 military members in Turkish Naval Force, in operations covering 5 cities through a Kayseri based investigation 21 people including military members on active duty, in Edirne 6 people alleged to attempt to illegally flee are detained.

4 of 8 people detained through a Sivas based investigation are arrested by the court on April 11, 2018. 4 people are released on juridical control conditions.

44 of 89 people who were detained through a Balıkesir based investigation are arrested by the court on April 11, 2018. 45 people are released on juridical control conditions.

(04/146) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trials of 12 cases against 12 people on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 2, on the grounds of leakage of the questions of public employees selection exam in 2010, is held on April 11, 2018. The court sentenced 10 defendants (Alpay Kirit, Arzu Durak, Ebru Bayburtlu, Fatma Şanver, Dursune Mayuk, Yasemin Bulut Karakuş, Ayşe Keskin, Dilek Gurur, Devrim Işık Akbal and Engin Doğru) to 6 years and 3 months for each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court also sentenced Alpay Kirit to 3 years and 1 month and 15 days and 350 thousand and 520 Turkish liras fine for ‘continuous fraud against public institutions’ . The court acquitted 2 defendants.
