(06/034) Child Got Injured in Şemdinli…

It is learned from news coverage of June 4, 2018 that, in a clash that took place after an attack of HPG militants to the military station construction near Şapatan village of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district, R. T. (15), a child from the village got injured at feet. It is claimed in the news report that R. T. got injured due to random shot of special police force.

It is learned that 2 soldiers got injured (1 is heavily) in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Sason district of Batman.

(06/036) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 4, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 4, 2018, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Gülnaz Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 4, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/037) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

On June 4, 2018 the police intervened the press declaration of public labourers at Bakırköy Square in Istanbul, who protest the dismissals with the state of emergency decrees, and detained 13 members of KESK (Confederation of Public Employees Trade Union). The names of detainees are: Nursel Tanrıverdi, Özge Astan, İlhan Kaya, Adem Erdem, Nuğyen Nedim, Ömer Açık, Dursun, Filiz Doğan, Ergin Bayrak, Onur Pekşen, Ersem Karababa, Fatoş Çekmez, Ayla Özkan Mimati.

On June 4, 2018, the police intervened the press declaration for the same reason, of public labourers at Kadıköy Square in Istanbul, and detained 7 people. The names of detainees are: Hüseyin Demir, Songül Tunçdemir, Özgür Karataş, Abdullah Şenyuva, Maşuk Öztekin, Hüda Yıldırım and a woman named Gülşen.

It is reported that 20 people who were detained in 2 protests are taken to Istanbul Police Headquarters.

(06/038) Cartoonist Arrested in Yalova…

Cartoonist Nuri Kurtcebe (69), is detained in Yalova on June 4, 2018. Nuri Kurtcebe, who has been sentenced to 1 year 2 months and 15 days for insulting the President, is arrested by the court. Nuri Kurtcebe was sentenced by Fethiye Penal Court of First Instance 2, to 1 year 2 months and 15 days, for a cartoon he drew in 2015.

(06/039) HDP MP’s on Trial….

The final trial of the case against HDP Diyarbakır MP İdris Baluken, for a speech he made in Elazığ convention of Peace and Democracy Party in 2012, on Elazığ Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on June 4, 2018. The court stated that the speech should be considered within the freedom of expression and acquitted İdris Baluken.

The final trial of the case against HPD Adana MP and group deputy Meral Danış Beştaş, for ‘publicly insulting the Republic of Turkey and the state’ and ‘publicly insulting Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey’, on Adana Penal Court of First Instance No 21 is held on June 4, 2018. The court acquitted Meral Danış Beştaş.

(06/070) Özgür Gündem Main Case…

The case against executive editor Zana Kaya, managing editor İnan Kızılkaya, publisher Kemal Sancılı, editorial consultants Aslı Erdoğan, Necmiye Alpay, Filiz Koçali, Ragıp Zarakolu and Bilge Aykut, and author Eren Keskin of Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 is held on June 4, 2018. The court decided to lift the detention warrant for Ragıp Zarakolu who is abroad and to submit the case file to the prosecutor for principal legal opinion, and adjourned the trial to October 10, 2018.

(06/041) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

İsmail Kurt, former judge of “the military espionage case”, who was dismissed by the state of emergency decree, is detained in Edirne on June 4, 2018.

(06/042) Elections on June 24, 2018…

On June 4, 2018, a group who were holding HDP (People’s Democracy Party) flags around HDP Bolu district office building, is attacked by a group including Adem Evcil, MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) Bolu PM candidate and İsmail Akgün, Bolu chair of The Greyvolvwes. It is learned that HDP members were stuck in the building for a while after the attack. The police did not intervene the attacking group, which burned down the flags of HDP and left the place. It is claimed on the news reports that, the chair of Bolu Police Directorate Security Department did not want to let HDP members to hold the flags and told “I will detain you if you hold flags here. I am not responsible for what would happen”.

On June 4, 2018, Necla Yenidünya, CHP (Republican People’s Party) Kırşehir women’s branch chair, who was distributing leaflets on elections is attacked by a person. It is learned that Necla Yenidünya made an official complaint about the attack and a person named E. E. is detained.

It is learned from news coverage of June 4, 2018 that 8 members of CHP youth section who were detained while holding posters of Muharrem İnce in Manisa on June 2, 2018, are released on June 3, 2018. It is stated in the news report that the police have seized the posters.

HDP member Şaban Şenlik, who made an official complaint about the attack against HDP members in electoral campaign in Antalya on June 3, 2018, is detained in a house raid on June 4, 2018. Şaban Şenlik is released on juridical control conditions by the court on the same day. It is learned from news reports that legal action for Şaban Şenlik was taken based on ‘insulting Turkish flag’ claim.

(06/043) Labor Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 166 workers including 14 children, died while working. According to ISIG data at least 754 workers died due to labor killings/labor accidents within the first 4 months of the year.
