(08/008) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2019 that 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak on July 28, 2019.

(08/009) Child Died in Hakkari…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2019 that, Vedat Ekinci (14) died due to fire opened from a helicopter of Turkish Armed Forces on villagers who were doing border trade and were on their way back from Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government to Derecik district of Hakkari. Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on August 2, 2019 and stated the following: “The individuals coming near from Northern Iraq to the border were warned by fires opened by soldiers a stop warning. Since the terrain is rough and rocky, one citizen was wounded from a bouncing bullet, who was then taken to Derecik Field Hospital by vehicles that belong to our Border Troops. Unfortunately, the wounded citizen lost his life despite all interventions.”

(08/010) Child Was Forced to be Police Informant in Adana…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2019 that, Ahmet Can B. (17) was forced to be a police informant in Adana. Ahmet Can B. who was detained through an operation against People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly on June 17, 2019 and was then released on house confinement conditions, stated the following: “The police keep wandering in our neighbourhoods with undercover cars and force some of young people to get in their cars. They forced me too and threatened me saying ‘We are intelligence office. We can kill your dad. If you help us you can go to school, any private school. We will give you money, you can take money from us any time you give us a name. If you do not help us we will keep following you. You cannot see your family and you would go to prison.”

(08/011) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 996 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 1, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 1, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and İlker Işık) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 1, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released on the same day.

(08/012) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police used pepper spray and physical violence to intervene the march of Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (KESK) to Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services in Ankara, for their demands on collective bargaining on August 1, 2019. It is learned that police intervention caused injury of several people. 6 people are detained by the police. The names of detainees are: KESK central executive board member İlhan Yiğit, Haber-Sen general secretary Burak Ustaoğlu Health and Social Service Employees Union women’s secretary Selma Atabey, Tarım-Orkam-Sen chair Hamit Kurt and Uğur Cebe. The detained people are released on the same day.

On August 1, 2019, 9 people are detained in house raids in Izmir on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The names of detainees are unknown.

(08/014) Arrested Political Party Executive in Aydın…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2019 that Greens and the Left Party Aydın co-spokesperson Nizamettin Aktepe is arrested and put in prison on July 22, 2019, upon approval of the 3 years and 9 months’ sentence given to him for social media posts.

(08/015) Co-Mayor Was Threatened in Mardin…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2019 that, Hikmet Erdin, AKP member of city council in Mazıdağı district of Mardin, attended monthly council meeting with a weapon and threatened co-mayor Nalan Özaydın.
