(03/073) Military Operation to North and East Syria…

It is learned that 2 soldiers died and 3 soldiers got wounded in an attack of Syrian Army to Turkish Armed Forces in Idlib city of Syria on March 5, 2020.

It is learned that 1 soldier who got wounded on March 4, 2020, died in hospital on March 5, 2020.

(03/074) People Subjected to Police Violence in Istanbul…

It is learned that a person named Seher Kıyıcı was subjected to physical and verbal violence of the police raiding a house in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on March 5, 2020.

Seher Kıyıcı stated the following: “My door was knocked loudly at around 6 a.m. I asked who they were and asked for an ID when they answered “Police”. And then I was subjected to insults and swears, they entered the house without showing their ID’s. They continued to insult me in front of my eyes. They searched the house forcing us out and around, they turned the house upside down. My children have serious fears because of continuous raids to our house.”

(03/075) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1213 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 5, 2020 at 13.00, and forced people away from the monument.

It is learned that, at 18.00, Melek Çetinkaya was forcefully taken into a vehicle by undercover police and was released after a while, Nazan Bozkurt who reacted to this was forced away from the monument. The police intervened the sit-in protest at the monument afterwards and forced people away from there.

The police intervened the press declaration to support Grup Yorum members on death fast and Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) members on hunger strike, which was held in Adana on March 5, 2020. 1 person who was detained for not having an ID card is released later.

(03/077) Detained Union Executive for Social Media Posts in Istanbul…

Umar Karatepe, chair of Department of Communications of Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions, is detained for social media posts, in Istanbul on March 5, 2020. Umar Karatepe is released by the court on judicial control conditions on the same day.

(03/078) Detained People in Adana…

On March 5, 2020, 7 people are detained in house raids in Adana. The reason of detention and names of detained people are unknown.

(03/079) Detained Person in Diyarbakır…

On March 5, 2020, 1 person (Barış Yıldız) is detained in a house raid in Silvan district of Diyarbakır. The reason of detention is unknown.

(03/080) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Müyesser Yıldız, news editor of Oda TV Ankara office, on the grounds of ‘insulting Hulusi Akar, commander of Turkish Armed Forces back then, in a news report’, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 35. Müyesser Yıldız’s lawyers demanded hearing of experts and the demand was rejected on the grounds that ‘it aims to extend the term of judging’. The court sentenced Müyesser Yıldız to 7,080 Turkish Liras and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(03/081) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against journalist Kenan Kırkaya, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation in social media’ is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 32 on March 5, 2020. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial June 4, 2020.

(03/082) Journalist on Trial in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against Mezopotamya news agency reporter Ruken Demir, on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation’ is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 19 on March 5, 2020. The court released Ruken Demir, and adjourned the trial to April 28, 2020.

Ruken Demir was detained on November 12, 2019 and was arrested on November 16, 2019.

(03/083) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Işıl Özgentürk, on the grounds of ‘continuously making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 on March 5, 2020. The court acquitted Işıl Özgentürk.

(03/084) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against İbrahim Aydın, Barış İnce, Can Uğur and Bülent Yılmaz, former executives of Birgün newspaper, for news reports on “Fuat Avni” account on Twitter, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 on March 5, 2020. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to April 14, 2020.

(03/085) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

The case against 19 police officers for ‘official misconduct’ related to the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015, is held on Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 14 on March 5, 2020. Defendant police officers did not attend the trial. The court adjourned the trial to July 10, 2020.

(03/086) The Case Against People Evacuated from Nusaybin…

The case against 70 people who were detained and then arrested on May 26, 2016, after being evacuated from the buildings they were stuck in during the curfew on Nusaybin district, is held on March 5, 2020 on Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court has decided to separate the case for each defendant and to start proceedings all over again with new case files on April 5, 2019.

The court sentenced 1 person (Gazi Muratoğlu) to 10 years on the charge of ‘attempt to killing’ and to 1 year and 4 months for ‘damaging public property’. The court sentenced İbrahim Halil Ildız to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘disrupting integrity and unity of the state’, and to 53 years on the charges of ‘attempt to killing’, ‘possessing hazardous material without permission’, ‘damaging public property’. With the last verdicts, 42 people in total are sentenced through this case.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 5, 2020 that, proceedings demanding lift of impunity of Republican People’s Party (CHP) group deputy chairman Engin Özkoç for his expressions on President is submitted to Grand National Assembly.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 5, 2020 that, Information Technologies and Communications Authority banned access to Oda TV website.

(03/089) Ban of Events in Adana, Aydın, Balıkesir, Kırklareli, Kilis and Kocaeli…

Adana Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all open-door and in-door events such as demonstrations, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, delivering leaflets, hanging banners and so on, which aim to protest Turkish Armed Forces operation in Syria, are banned for 15 days as of March 5, 2020.

Aydın Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all demonstrations, meetings, open-door and in-door meetings, protests, opening tents, hunger strikes, commemorations, hanging banners and posters, delivering leaflets, collecting petitions, lighting and carrying torches, concerts, conferences, panels and so on are banned for 10 days as of March 5, 2020.

Balıkesir Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, opening stands, collecting petitions, delivering leaflets and so on which aim to protest Turkish Armed Forces operation in Syria, are banned for 10 days as of March 5, 2020.

Kırklareli Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all events such as meetings, marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, collecting petitions, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, delivering leaflets, hanging banners and so on under the topic of “No to War”, are banned for 10 days as of March 5, 2020.

Kilis Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, open-door events, protests, meetings, opening stands, hunger strikes, commemorations, hanging banners and posters, delivering leaflets, collecting petitions, lighting and carrying torches, sit-in protests, conferences, panels and seminars and so on which aim to protest Turkish Armed Forces operation in Syria, are banned for 15 days as of March 5, 2020.

Kocaeli Governorate announced on March 5, 2020 that, all events such as open-door and in-door events, demonstrations, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, lighting and carrying torches, delivering leaflets and so on under the topic of “No to War”, are banned for 2 days as of March 5, 2020.
