(04/209) Person Shot by the Police for Disobeying Stop Warning in Adana…

On April 27, 2020, Ali El Hemdan, a 19 years old Syrian person was killed by police shot on the grounds of disobeying stop warning, in Seyhan district of Adana. Association of Human Rights and Solidarity for Oppressed People (MAZLUM-DER) Adana branch prepared a report on April 29, 2020 and states the following: “Shopkeepers around the crime scene were asked whether the police fired a warning shot; and they answered negatively. And other citizens who were at the crime scene state that, police officers stopped two young men at the control point, made body search and asked for ID; one of the young men tried to run away into an alley because he was under the age of 20 and did not want to be fined for this; a police officer went after him and warned to stop; then they heard a gunshot and there was no warning shot up into the air”.

(04/210) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 29, 2020 that, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Urfa MP Ayşe Sürücü and a group of lawyers who went to Urfa T Type Prison to meet prison administration on right violations, were not accepted. It is reported that the group were prevented from entering into the prison by gendarmerie blocking the entrance.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 29, 2020 that despite of Covid-19 pandemic, wards in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison were not disinfected, prisoner were not given disinfectants and cleaning supplies, wardens do not wear face masks and follow social distancing rule during ward searches, disinfectants were sold at prison commissary at high prices. It is also stated in the news reports that hot water was given only for 1 hour a day which is at a low temperature; radios of prisoners were seized and newspapers were not given to prisoners although there is no ban.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 29, 2020 that journalist Aziz Oruç who is kept in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison, was not referred to hospital.

(04/212) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1268 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 29, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(04/213) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On April 29, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day, after being fined for violating Law of Misdemeanour and Public Health Law.

On April 29, 2020, 2 members (Halime Albay and Zeki İtah) of Association of Families of Prisoners (TUHAY-DER) are detained in house raids in Van.

(04/215) Preventions of May 1 Events…

On April 29, 2020, Izmir Labour and Democracy Forces’ application for May 1 events to Izmir Governorate is rejected on the grounds of curfew between May 1 to May 3, 2020, as a part of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic. It is stated by the governorate that a press declaration for May 1, by 5 people keeping social distance between them could be held on April 30, 2020.

Confederation of Public Employees Unions (KESK) Mardin Branches Platform’s application to Artuklu Sub-Governorate to hold a press declaration on April 30, 2020 and to have a mobile vehicle playing May Day Anthem on streets during May 1, is rejected on April 29, 2020 ın the grounds of Ministry of Interior circular. It is stated by the sub-governorate that a press declaration for May 1, by 5 people keeping social distance between them could be held on April 30, 2020.

(04/216) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 89 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,936 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 29, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 3,081 and total number of confirmed cases is 117,589 as of April 29, 2020.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca declared that 7,428 health workers are diagnosed with Covid-19 as of April 29, 2020.
