(02/325) Military Operation to North and South Syria…

Hatay Governorate announced on February 27, 2020 that, 33 soldiers died and 32 soldiers got wounded in an attack of Syrian Army to Turkish Armed Forces personnel in Idlib city of Syria.

It is learned that 3 soldiers died in another attack to Turkish Armed Forces personnel in Idlib city of Syria on February 27, 2020.

(02/326) Person Shot by Watchman for ‘Disobeying Stop Warning’ in Antalya…

It is learned that a person named A. Ç., was shot by a watchman, on the grounds of ‘escaping from an ID check’ in Konyaaltı district of Antalya on February 27, 2020. It is reported that A. Ç. is taken to hospital and his condition is not risky

(02/327) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the sit-in protest after press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1206 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on February 27, 2020 at 13.00, and forced participants away from the monument.

(02/328) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration for Mustafa Koçak, İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek, at Khalkedon Square in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 27, 2020 and Feridun Osmanağaoğlu. It is learned that Feridun Osmanağaoğlu is released on the same day. Mustafa Koçak is on death fast for 241 days in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison, to demand a fair trial. İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek have gone on a hunger strike on June 18, 2019 and İbrahim Gökçek turned his strike to a death fast on January 3, 2020 and Helin Bölek did it so on January 20, 2020.

(02/329) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration for Mustafa Koçak, İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek, at Taksim Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on February 27, 2020 and detained 4 members of TAYAD. It is learned that 4 people are released on the same day.

Necmettin Saltıkalp, city council member from People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Nusaybin district of Mardin is detained on February 27, 2020.

On February 27, 2020, a person named Zeynep Dağ is detained in a house raid in Nusaybin district of Mardin.

(02/332) HDP Pressures and Preventions on HDP Congress…

2 people (1 employee of audio system company at convention center and 1 employee of HDP) who were detained after HDP’s 4th Congress on February 23, 2020, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 27, 2020. 13 people who were also detained were released on February 25, 2020.

(02/333) Former HDP Co-Chair on Trial…

The first trial of the case against HDP’s former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 12 on February 27, 2020.

The indictment demands sentence for Figen Yüksekdağ on the charge of ‘insulting Turkish nation, state of Turkey and judicial organs’.

Figen Yüksekdağ could not join the trial because of technical problems in sound and vision system. The court adjourned the trial to March 19, 2020.

(02/334) Journalist on Trial in Konya…

The first trial of the case against journalist Sultan Çoban, on the grounds of her social media posts, is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No 8 on February 27, 2020. The court sentenced Sultan Çoban to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(02/335) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against İbrahim Aydın, grant holder of Birgün newspaper; Uğur Koç, former editor in chief and Mustafa Kömüş, managing editor of birgun.net website, on the grounds of ‘insulting a public officer due to the performance of his public duty’, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on February 27, 2020.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to May 7, 2020.

(02/336) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 4 people including Etkin News Agency editor Semiha Şahin and reporter Pınar Gayıp, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 is held on February 27, 2020.

The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court adjourned the trial to May 14, 2020.

(02/337) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against lawyer Oya Aslan from People’s Law Office is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on February 27, 2020.

It is learned that Oya Aslan was interrupted during her defence declarations, by the chief judge saying ‘you are making a political defence’. It is reported that lawyers who reject to this were forced out of the courtroom by the police called by the chief judge; and that the trial continued without lawyers. The court decided to continue detention of Oya Aslan and adjourned the trial to April 17, 2020.

(02/338) Prison Massacre Case…

The case against 196 people who were on duty at Gendarmerie General Command during “Operation Back to Life”, which caused death of 12 people and injury of 29 in Bayrampaşa Prison, is held on Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court No 13 on February 27, 2020. The operation which killed 32 people in 20 prisons in total was conducted to enable conversion of the prisons to F Type prisons and to end hunger strikes in prisons on December 19, 2000. It is learned that Kubilay Aktaş, Staff Operations Director of Gendarmerie General Command back then is heard as witness. The court adjourned the trial to June 4, 2020.

Yalova mayor Vefa Salman from Republican People’s Party (CHP) is suspended by Ministry of Interior on February 27, 2020.

(02/340) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on February 27, 2020 and announced that, all open-door events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of February 28, 2020. All events are banned in Hakkari for 343 days since April 4, 2019.

(02/341) Ban of Access to a YouTube Channel…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2020 that, YouTube channel of KHK TV, which was broadcasted by public employees dismissed by state of emergency decrees, is banned to access.
