(10/355) Armed Assault Towards Teacher in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from news coverage of October 29, 2017 that the armed assault towards teacher İzzet Güven in Diyarbakır’s Silvan district on October 20, 2017 has been proclaimed by YPS.

(10/356) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of October 26, 2017 that during clashes between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district, 5 militants died on October 22, 2017. During the clashes in Van on October 23, 2017, 2 militants died.

It is learned that on October 27, 2017 4 soldiers were injured during clashes between security forces and HPG militants Diyarbakır’s Silvan district.

The news coverage of October 29, 2017 declared that Önder Polat, the person who died alongside taxi driver Zafer Ceylan in September 28, 2017 in Van’s Ercis district was a YPS militant.

(10/357) Suspicious Death in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of October 28, 2017 that a LGBTİ+ prisoner in Isparta Type E Prison was found dead in the ward. News claimed the cause of death was suicide. KAOS GL Association released a statement about M.İ’s death and called for a thorough investigation about the suicide claim and any possible ill-treatment.

(10/358) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of October 28, 2017 that 13 prisoners from Rize Type L Prison and 26 prisoners from Diyarbakır Type D Prison were transferred to Ağrı Patnos Type L prison where the prisoners were restrained from their social, cultural and sportive rights, radio, books and personal belongings of prisoners were seized.

A prisoner named Akil Nergüz in Van High Security Prison revealed in her letter to press on October 28, 2017 that the letters they wrote about right violations were not posted because that might ‘jeopardize institutions security’ and ‘target prison personnel’.

It is reported in news on October 29, 2017 that prisoners in Bolu Type F Prison were not given the Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper citing that the paper has been banned by the administration because it ‘might be dangerous for prisoners to read’.

Same news coverage also revealed that a prisoner named Rısvan Tanış refused a dental surgery with his hands handcuffed therefor he was not sent to hospital and restrained from medical rights.

News coverage of October 29, 2017 claimed that 12 prisoners in İskenderun Type M Prison were tortured and subjected to ill-treatment on October 18, 2017.

It is learned from news coverage of October 29, 2017 that 35 prisoners in Muş Type E Prison were transferred to İzmir Şakran No 1 and No 4 prisons against their will. 15 other prisoners were transferred to Sincan Prison also against their wills.  It is reported that the prisoners were not allowed to take any clothes with them, forced to leave with slippers of bare foot and hands cuffed from behind. It is learned that prisoners sent to Şakran prison were not given any clothes there also.

It is learned from news coverage of October 29, 2017 that daily belongings, pillows and blankets of prisoners who were on a hunger strike with 3 day rotations to protest the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, were taken away. Also 12 prisoners were put into solitary cells.

It is learned from news coverage of October 29, 2017 that weekly visitation time for female prisoners in İstanbul Bakırköy Prison were reduced to 35 minutes, hospital transfers were delayed, prisoners were forced to examination while their hands were cuffed and soldier didn’t leave the room during medical examination.

It is learned from news coverage of October 30, 2017 that HDP Şırnak MP Ferhat Encü refused to be cuffed while he was going to the hospital. Therefor he was not taken to the hospital.

It is learned from news coverage of October 30, 2017 that prisoners in Elazığ No 2 High Security Prison will stop using their visitation and phone rights to protest rights violations they have been experiencing.

It is learned from news coverage of October 30, 2017 that 22 prisoners in Mardin Type M Prison were transferred to hospital due to poisoning suspicion. News claimed that the antifreeze in the solar system was mixed with drinking water thus caused poisoning.

Ministry of Justice answered CHP İstanbul MP Gamze Akkuş’s parliamentary question regarding the number of students in prison. According to the ministry’s data, 36.33 students are in jail as of 2016.

(10/360) Police Intervention Towards ‘‘I Want My Job Back’’ demonstrations in Ankara…

Civil servants discharged from their jobs with a Decree with the Force of Law planned for press meetings in front of the Human Rights Monument in Ankara Yüksel Street on October 27, 28, 29, 30, 2017. Demonstrations of the group has been going on for several weeks. Two meetings planned at 13.00 and 18.00 respectively were both intervened and prevented by the police forces.

On October 27, 2017, 5 people during the intervention towards the meeting at 13.30 on and 7 people including Veli Saçılık during the 18.00 meeting were detained.

On October 28, 2017, 4 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Mehmet Dersulu and 2 unidentified people) during the intervention towards the meeting at 13.30 on and 8 people during the 18.00 meeting were detained.

On October 29, 2017, 3 people (İlker Işık, Mehmet Dersulu and 1 unidentified person) during the intervention towards the meeting at 13.30 on and 8 people during the 18.00 meeting were detained.

On October 30, 2017, 4 people during the intervention towards the meeting at 13.30 on and 5 people during the 18.00 meeting were detained.

In total, 44 people were detained on October 27, 28, 29, 30, 2017 Yüksel street demonstrations. It is learned that police officers also prevented press members from reporting the incident. It is reported that detainees were released within the same day.

(10/361) Arrest of Nazife Onay …

Nazife Onay was arrested on trial due to her attendance to I Want My Job Back demonstrations. She was released on the first trial of the case on October 19, 2017. Onay was detained while exiting the prison due to another İstanbul based investigation. It is learned that Onay was arrested on October 30, 2017 by court.

(10/362) Police Operation Towards Revolutionary Party Members…

It is learned that on October 31, 2017, 9 Revolutionary Party members were detained through an Adana based investigation during operations in İstanbul and Hatay. It is reported that 9 people whose names haven’t been identified are sent to Adana Police Headquarters.

(10/363) Detention and Arrests…

It is learned that 14 people were detained during house raids in İstanbul on October 28, 2017. Learned names of the detainees: Uğur Moco, Semih Aladağ, İhsan Sütçü, Mazlum Korkmaz, Edip Cemiloğlu.

It is reported that Muazzez Filiz who works as an educator at an education support center was detained in Diyarbakır during a house raid on October 29, 2017.

Also during a house raid in Diyarbakır a DBP member named Rıfat Aslan was detained on October 29, 2017.

It is reported that HDP Karaköprü district executive Emin Akaslan was detained during a house raid in Urfa on October 29, 2017.

It is learned that DBP Municipality Council member Egit Durmus and HDP district executive Dindar Cin were detain on October 29, 2017.

It is reported that 6 people were detained in Van on October 29, 2017.

It is reported that 5 of 9 people including 3 children detained in Adana on October 28, 2017 were arrested on October 30, 2017 by court due to ‘membership of an illegal organization’, ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ and ‘committing a crime on behalf of an illegal organization’.

It is learned that 5 of 6 people including HDP Tarsus District Executive Mehdiye Çiçekdağ detained on October 28, 2017 were released with judiciary control conditions. One person named Hamdiye Kırıcı was arrested due to ‘membership of an illegal organization’.

(10/364) Attorneys Detained in İzmir…

It is learned that 4 of 6 ÇHD attorneys detained were released following their testimonies at the prosecution office. 2 attorneys were released with judiciary control conditions. Attorneys were detained on October 27, 2017 during house and office raids in İzmir. Names of the released attorneys: Nergiz Tuba Aslan, Şule Arslan Hızal, Yemen Cankan, Dinçer Çalım. Attorneys released with a judiciary control condition: Emel Diril and Bahattin Özdemir.

(10/365) Attorney Detained in Van…

ÖHP (Platform of Free Lawyers) member attorney Deniz Yıldız who was detained on October 24, 2017 in Van when he went to testify in police headquarters, was released by court with judiciary control condition on October 27, 2017.

(10/366) Detentions and Arrests in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

It is learned that 58 regular soldiers were detained during operations in 31 cities through a Konya based investigation on October 27, 2017 and following days. 29 people were detained in İzmir.

It is learned that 8 of 26 people detained on October 27, 2017 in Rize were arrested by court. 18 of detainees were released with judiciary control condition.

It is learned that 19 people were detained through an Antalya based investigation during operations in 6 cities on October 28, 2017.

It is learned that one person in Eskişehir, 3 people in Edirne trying to cross Greek border illegally were detained on October 29, 2017.

It is reported that 11 people including soldiers were detained on October 30, 2017 in Maraş.

It is learned that 4 people detained in Ankara on October 30, 2017 due to ByLock usage were arrested by court.

(10/367)Trial of Özgür Gündem…

The trial of Özgür Gündem Advisory Board members, Editor in Chief Zana (Bilir) Kaya, Acting News Editor İnan Kızılkaya, License Holder Kemal Sancılı and writer Eren Keskin continued on October 31, 2017. The case was opened by İstanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23. Following the defenses the court ruled for the release of arrested defendants İnan Kızılkaya and Kemal Sancılı and adjourned the trial date to March 2017.

İnan Kızılkaya was arrested on August 26, 2017 and Kemal Sancılı on January 3, 2017 both for ‘membership of an illegal organization’ and ‘violating the integrity and unity of the state’.

(10/368) Trials of HDP MP’s…

The trial of HDP Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş continued on October 31, 2017. The case was opened by Adana penal Court of First Instance No 2. Following the defenses the court adjourned the trial to January 9, 2017.

(10/369) Trial of Main İstanbul KCK Case…

The main trial of KCK case with 205 defendants continued on October 27, 2017 in İstanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3. Following the defenses the court adjourned the trial date to December 15, 2017.

(10/370) Trials of 2 People in Diyarbakır

The trial of Şahcan Tüner and Sibel İldan started on October 30, 2017. Both were detained on June 14, 2017 through a Diyarbakır based investigation on HDP, DBP, HDK, DTK, TJA members and executives. The case was opened by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court  No 10 with the accusation of ‘membership of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’. Following the defenses the court ruled for the release of Sibel İldan and adjourned the trial date to February 2017.

(10/371) Investigation on Actress…

It is learned from news coverage of October 30, 2017 that actress Hazar Ergüçlü went to testify to public prosecution office as an investigation began on her due to a documentary she shared online. Ergüçlü was accused with making propaganda of an illegal organization through the documentary. The Prosecution Office gave a decision of non-prosecution.

(10/372) Trials in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

The final trial of 28 defendants including Coast Guard Commander Hakan Üstem, took place on October 27, 2017. He case was opened by Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 17 regarding the actions in Coast Guard Command during July 15 coup attempt. Following the defenses the court sentenced 25 defendants to life sentences due to ‘violating the constitution’. The court ruled for the release of 3 people.

The final trial of 29 teachers including 11 arrested, took place on October 27, 2017. Teachers were discharged from their jobs with a Decree with the Force of Law. The case was opened by Kırklareli Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court sentenced 10 defendants to jail sentences ranging from 6 years 3 months to 7 years 6 months due to ‘membership of an illegal organization’.

The final trial of Grade 4 police chiefs Uğur Aydoğdu and Ali Aykan along with former police officer İlhami Toros took place on October 27, 2017. All defendants were discharged from their jobs with a Decree with the Force of Law. the case was opened by Kırıkkale Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court sentenced 3 police officers to jail sentences ranging from 7 years 6 months to 7 years 11 months 22 days.

The final trial of Ali Özdemir and Bedirhan Örsdemir took place on October 27, 2017. The case was opened by Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court sentenced both defendants to jail sentences ranging from 10 years to 13 years 9 months due to ‘membership of an illegal organization’ and ‘jobbery’.

The final trial of 35 defendants including former Bar President of Konya took place on October 28, 2017. 13 of defendants were already arrested. The case was opened by Konya Heavy Penal Court No 6. The court interrupted Kayacan’s defense stating that his defense irrelevantly insulted the court, judges and prosecutors and wasted the courts time. The court later revealed its verdict and sentenced Kayacan to 10 years 6 months. The court sentenced other 20 defendants to jail sentences ranging from 2 years 6 months to 7 years 6 months. The court acquitted 14 defendants.

The final trial of 23 defendants including 19 arrested took place on October 30, 2017. The case was opened by Kırşehir Heavy Penal Court. The court sentenced 23 defendants to jail sentences from 5 years to 42 years.

The trial of 86 defendants regarding the ‘’FETÖ/PYD Business World Structure’’ investigation continued on October 30, 2017. The case was opened by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23. Following the defenses the court ruled for the release of 10 defendants and adjourned the trial to December 4, 2017.

(10/373) Events Banned in City…

Governorate of Van declared on October 30, 2017 that it would be prohibited to march, demonstrate, sit-in, chant, protest, gather for press briefings or organize any other events in all the city for 30 days starting from October 31, 2017.
