(03/258) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 2 soldiers (İsmail Karataş and Onur Karakaya) died and 2 soldiers got wounded in a clash between HPG militants and Turkish Armed Forces units in “Operation Claw 3”, in Haftanin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on March 25, 2020.

(03/259) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is claimed in the news coverage of March 25, 2020 that, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan L Type Prison No 2 was tested positive for Covid-19.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 25, 2020 that prisoners in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 1 are not given cleaning supplies, cologne, face masks and disinfectants despite of Covid-19 pandemic.

 It is learned from the news coverage of March 25, 2020 that in Van High Security Prison, only 2 boxes of disinfectants per 100 prisoners are given.

(03/260) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1233 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 25, 2020 at 13.30 ant at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(03/261) Detained City Council Members, HDP Members, TJA Activists and Other People in Batman…

2 of 9 people who were detained on March 23, 2020 in Batman are arrested by the court on March 25, 2020. Arrested people are: TJA (Free Women’s Movement) activists Siyajin Yıldırım and Emine Erden. 7 people are released: Batman deputy co-mayor Şehriban Aydın, citiy council members Mehmet Salih Çetinkaya, Şükran Çelebi, singer Adil Arslan, actor Abdullah Tarhan, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly members Evin Can and Semanur Can.

Serhat Bayık, a distributor of Yeni Yaşam newspaper who was detained in house raid in Batman on March 23, 2020 is released on judicial control conditions on March 25, 2020.

(03/263) Detained People in Ankara for Social Media Posts…

On March 25, 2020, 1 person is detained in Ankara, on the grounds of ‘inciting fear and panic among people’ by social media posts on Covid-19 pandemic.

Ministry of Interior declared that number of detained people for social media posts on Covid-19 pandemic is 410 as of March 25, 2020.

(03/264) People on Trial in Mersin…

The final trial of the case against 40 students of Mersin University, for protesting a commemoration at campus for Nihal Atsız on March 11, 2015; is held at Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 25, 2020.

The court sentenced 22 students to 6 years and 8 months each for ‘participating in disguise in meetings and demonstrations which becomes propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court sentenced 11 students to 3 years and 8 months each for ‘not to disperse despite of warnings’, ‘resisting to police’ and ‘participating in meetings and demonstrations with injuring tools such as clubs, stones and bottles’. The court acquitted 7 people.

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu announced via social media that a prisoner in Ankara Sincan L Type Prison No 2 was tested positive for Covid-19. Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office made a declaration and denied it; and initiated an investigation against Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu for ‘inciting fear and panic among people’.

(03/266) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 15 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 561 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on March 25, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 75 and total number of confirmed cases is 2433 as of March 25, 2020.

(03/267) Ban of Events in Siirt and Batman…

Siirt Governorate made a declaration on March 25, 2020 and announced that, in accordance with “recommendations of Coronavirus Science Board of Ministry of Health to prevent spread of Covid-19 in Turkey”, all open events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, delivering leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 30 days as of March 26, 2020, until April 24, 2020.

Batman Governorate made a declaration on March 25, 2020 and announced that, “in order to provide national security and protect public order”, all open events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, delivering leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned as of March 26, 2020, until April 9, 2020.
