Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Ahmet İnce) died and 3 soldiers got wounded in an attack of HPG militants to Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units in Haftanin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 25, 2020.

(04/174) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 24, 2020 that, prisoners in Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison were not given cleaning supplies, disinfectants and face masks for protection from Covid-19; and that wardens do not follow social distancing rules during ward searches. It is also stated in the news reports that prisoners were given 2 meals a day and the food given to them is insufficient.

It is claimed in the news coverage of April 24, 2020 that 26 prisoners in Rize Kalkandere L Type Prison who have symptoms of Covid-19 were not referred to hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 24, 2020 that, 1 prisoner in Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison were forced to be medically examined in handcuffs and since she rejected to this, she was taken back to prison without completing controls.

Gökhan Karabulut, executive editor of Kocaeli Koz newspaper is detained on April 24, 2020, on the grounds of news reports criticising Health Director of Kocaeli. Gökhan Karabulut is released by the court on the same day.

(04/177) Detained People in Adana for Handing Out Bread…

3 people (Hasali Demir, Cumali Sucu and Camal Demir) who were handing out breads provided by Adana Metropolitan Municipality in Yüreğir district on April 26, 2020, are detained on the grounds of complaint against them. 3 people were taken to Doğankent Police Station and were released after statement procedures.

5 people including 2 children who were detained in police intervention against the press declaration in İpekyolu district of Van on April 20, 2020, to protest air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Zînî Wertê area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on April 25, 2020. Names of arrested people are unknown.

(04/179) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 24, 2020 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Mehmet Ferhat Çelik (managing editor of Yeni Yaşam newspaper), Aydın Keser (executive editor of Yeni Yaşam newspaper), Barış Pehlivan (managing editor of Oda TV), Barış Terkoğlu (chief news editor of Oda TV) and reporter Hülya Kılınç and Murat Ağırel (Yeniçağ newspaper writer), for the news reports on National Intelligence officer who died in Libya and was buried in Manisa.

The indictment demands jail sentence from 5 years to 10 years for 6 journalists, on the charge of, ‘disclosure of information relating to the security and political interests of the state’, noted in Article 329/1 of Turkish Penal Code, and from 4 years to 10 years on the charge of ‘disclosure of information and documents related to intelligence activity’, noted in Article 27 of the Law Amending the Law on State Intelligence Services and the National Intelligence Organization.

Oda TV chief news editor Barış Terkoğlu and reporter Hülya Kılınç were detained on March 4, 2020 and were arrested by the court on March 5, 2020. Oda TV managing editor Barış Pehlivan was detained on March 6, 2020 and was arrested on the same day. Mehmet Ferhat Çelik, Aydın Keser and Murat Ağırel were detained and then released on judicial control conditions on March 6, 2020; however, upon prosecutor’s appeal they were detained again and were arrested on March 8, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 109 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 3,122 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 24, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 106 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,861 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 25, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 99 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,357 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 26, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 2,805 and total number of confirmed cases is 110,130 as of April 26, 2020.

It is learned from the data shared by Ankara Medical Chamber on April 24, 2020 that 175 health workers in Ankara tested positive for Covid-19.

It is learned from the data shared by Diyarbakır Medical Chamber on April 24, 2020 that 54 health workers in Diyarbakır tested positive for Covid-19.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 26, 2020 that a prisoner who went to İpekyolu district of Van after being released form Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison, tested positive for Covid-19.
