(08/113) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that on August 19, 2019, 1 police officer got wounded due to an attack to patrol car of the police in Siirt and 1 person who is alleged to be the assaulter died. The name of the person died is unknown.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 19, 2019 that 2 HPG militants died in the air operation to Qandil area in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 31, 2019.

(08/114) Trustees Appointed to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van…

Ministry of Interior announced on August 19, 2019 that, mayors of Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van are dismissed and Diyarbakır governor Hasan Basri Güzeloğlu, Mardin governor Mustafa Yaman and Van governor Mehmet Emin Bilmez are appointed as trustees.

It is learned from the news coverage that 29 public officials are suspended, contracts of 8 workers are cancelled and 2 consultants are dismissed in Diyarbakır Municipality.

(08/115) Detentions in Operations After Appointment of Trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van…

Ministry of Interior declared that 418 people including city council members, executives of political parties and associations and 1 journalist (Mezopotamya News Agency Kurdish editor Ziyan Karahan) are detained in operations covering 29 cities after appointment of trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van.

The details of detentions known so far are as following:

  • It is learned that a warrant is issued in Diyarbakır for 187 people and at least 99 of them are detained.
  • 12 people are detained in house raids in Tekman and Karakoçan districts of Erzurum.
  • 8 people including city council member Nihat Çağlayan are detained in house raids in Ahlat district of Bitlis.
  • People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member and Democratic Alewi Associations executive Dursun Demirtaş and Selami Erdem and Laşer Mesut are detained in house raids in Tunceli.

(08/116) Police Interventions Against Protests After Appointment of Trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van…

The police used pepper spray and pressurized water to intervene the demonstrations in Diyarbakır to protest appointment of trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van on August 19, 2019. It is learned that some people were injured due to interventions which continued all day long while some were detained.

The police intervened the group including co-mayors and HDP MP’s in front of Van Municipality building on August 19, 2019. It is reported that nobody was detained.

The police intervened the group including HDP MP’s holding a press declaration at Taksim Square in Istanbul on August 19, 2019 and detained 6 people. The names of detained people known so far are: HDP Party Assembly member Nesimi Aday, HDP Ümraniye district co-chair Damla Savcı, HDP provincial executive Sıtkı Tatlıcı and Vedat Fidan.

The police intervened the group including holding a press declaration in Sakarya Street in Ankara on August 19, 2019 and detained 9 people including HDP Ankara co-chair Hüseyin Geveri. The detainees are released after statement procedures on the same day. The names of detained people are: Hüseyin Geveri, People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) Ankara co-spokesperson Fatma Kılıçarslan, DAD Mamak Branch co-chair Hasan Altun, HDP Party Assembly member Yağmur Yurtsever, HDP provincial executive Betül Koca, and Ecem Polat, Mustafa Bayraktar, Mustafa Uğur Akkaya and Zarif Kesiciler.

The police intervened the group including holding a press declaration in Sınırsızlık Square in Muğla on August 19, 2019 and detained 22 people including HDP Party Assembly member Adalet Aydın. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

On August 19, 2019, Diyarbakır’s Eğil district co-mayor Gülistan Ensarioğlu and Silvan district co-mayor Naşide Topral were prevented from entering Diyarbakır city center.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on August 19, 2019 after appointment of trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van, and announced that all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 30 days as of August 19, 2019.

Izmir Governorate made a declaration on August 19, 2019 after appointment of trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van, and announced that all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 10 days as of August 19, 2019.

(08/119) Person was Subjected to Police Violence in Urfa…

It is learned that, Mehmet Toprak’s house in Urfa was raided and Mehmet Toprak’s mother who reacted against the police breaking the door during the raid, was subjected to police violence. It is reported that Mehmet Toprak was not at home and was not detained.

(08/120) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1014 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 19, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 19, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 19, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(08/121) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

Nursel Tanrıverdi who make a sit-in protest at Bakırköy Square on August 19, 2019, to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees is detained by the police intervening the protest. It is learned that Nursel Tanrıverdi was released after statement procedures on the same day.

(08/122) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened into the protestors in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 19, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 4 people (Mahmut Konuk, Mehmet Dersulu and 2 more people). It is learned that 4 people were released the same day.
