(07/007) Torture and Ill-treatment in Custody…

4 children who were detained when the villagers staged an action to protest in the dispatching soldiers on the border on 29 June 2015 in Roboski village of Uludere district in Şırnak were reportedly subjected torture in custody. The children were beaten with truncheons; there were reportedly traces of beatings and bruises on the bodies of children.

(07/008) Protesters on Trial for Putting Up Placard…

Kayseri Penal Court of First Instance No 15 concluded on 1 July 2015 to hear the case against People’s Republican Party (CHP) Chair for Kayseri province Mustafa Ayan, CHP Chair for Melikgazi district Asef Türkdönmez, youth wings members Deniz Can Demir, Onur Karabulut, Emeç Aksoy Parlak, Halil Can Öz, Seçkin Akıncı ve Ahmet Nazif Yüce launched in connection with a placard put up on the building of CHP premises in Kayseri. There were photographs of 4 former ministers as a reference to bribery and corruption allegations.

After the testimonies of the defendants, the court acquitted the defendants on the grounds that the placard was within the limits of freedom of expression, the defendants and the persons on the placard were politicians and such interactions do not constitute crime. The indictment wanted the defendants to be sentenced according to the Article 125 TPC for “insulting public officers”.

(07/009) March Intervened in İzmir…

The police prevented members of Democratic Youth Federation (Demokratik Gençlik Federasyonu – DEM-GENÇ) who wanted to stage a march on 1 July 2015 in Karabağlar district of İzmir to protest in the drug use and drug dealers. 6 persons were detained during the intervention.

(07/010) House Raids in Batman…

The police conducted house raids on 1 July 2015 in Batman and detained 5 persons on the allegations of “taking part in unlawful demonstrations on various dates”.

(07/011) Medical School Student on Trial…

Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 continued on 1 July 2015 to hear the case against Esra Yakar launched on charges of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Esra Yakar went to Kobanê’ to deliver medical service to YPG/YPJ militants when she was student at Dicle University Medical School and wounded during the armed clashes with IS/ISIS. She was wounded at her right eye and taken to a hospital in Ankara for treatment. She was arrested in the hospital and sent to Sincan Women’s Prison after the completion of treatment. The court released the defendant at the previous hearing of the case on 5 March 2015.

She testified at the hearing and his father appeared as witness. After the Public Prosecutor’s opinion as to the accusations, the court adjourned the hearing to later date for final decision.

(07/012) House Raids in Mardin…

The police conducted house raids on 1 July 2015 in Nusaybin district of Mardin and detained 11 persons. The detainees were reportedly subjected torture during detention. The reason of the operation was not disclosed relying on the confidentiality decision on the operation.

(07/013) House Raids in Ankara…

The police conducted house raids on 1 July 2015 in Ankara and detained 4 persons. The reason of the operation was not disclosed.

(07/014) House Raid and Hate Crime in Edirne…

Some 700 police officers conducted house raids on 1 July 2015 in Keşan district of Edirne as a part of “Peace Operation” and detained 44 persons including Trace Roma Association Federation Chair F.S. After the operation, some 200 police officers marched in the neighbourhood shouting the slogans “Police give peace and safety” and “How happy is he who says I’m a Turk”.

(07/015) House Raids in Diyarbakır…

The police conducted house raids on 1 July 2015 in Diyarbakır and detained Uğur Turan and Yunus Ekmen. The reason of the operation was not disclosed.

(07/016) Children Detained in Şırnak…

The children S.A. and H.B. were detained by the police on 1 July 2015in Cizre district of Şırnak for waving victory sign against a military convoy.
