It is learned from the news coverage of September 10, 2019 that, 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Diyarbakır’s Hani district on September 6, 2019.

(09/111) Police Interventions and Preventions Against Protests After Appointment of Trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van…

The press declaration to be held in Mardin on September 10, 2019, by People’s Democratic Party (HDP), about appointment of trustees to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van, is prevented by the police blocking the HDP office.

(09/112) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1036 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on September 10, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on September 10, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 2 people (Merve Demirel and Acun Karadağ) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on September 10, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(09/113) Detained ESP Co-Chair…

On September 10, 2019, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, central executive board member Hüseyin İldan, party assembly member Aydın Kılıçdere, and Istanbul co-chair Pınar Türk are detained in house raids Istanbul.

It is learned that ESP Ataşehir district office was also raided by the police.

On September 10, 2019, 18 members of HDP and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) including HDP Van co-chair are detained in house raids in Van. The names of detained people are: HDP Van co-chair Yadişen Karabulak, Nesibe Akdağ, Fikret Doğan, Mehmet Sait Karabıyık, Fatih Şahin, Hasan Güven, Abdullah Keleş, Vahyettin Uca, Ertuğrul Korkmaz, Esra Babur, Şefik Ummaz, Dilan Yıldız, Bahattin Yavuz, Seyit Kılıç, HDP Özalp district co-chair Burhan Atmaca, Tahsin Akti, Veysi Akti, Muhsin Aladağ.

(09/115) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The case against Assist. Professor Lülüfer Körükmez from Ege University for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 14 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on September 10, 2019. The court decided to send the case to Supreme Court on the grounds of lack of venue decision.

The case against Assist. Professor Güldem Özatağan from Izmir Institute of Technology for the same reason on Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 13 is resulted in acquittal as a preceding judgment of the court on September 10, 2019.

The case against Doğan Emrah Zıraman for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 is resulted in acquittal as a preceding judgment of the court on September 10, 2019.

The cases against 11 academicians (Assist. Professor Mehmet Penpecioğlu from Izmir Institute of Technology, PhD Ali Rıza Güngen 19 Mayıs University, Research Assistant Gülsevim Evsel and Assist. Professor Başak Alpan from METU, Research Assistant Aysun Gezen from Ankara University, Professor Mihriban Özbaşaran from Istanbul University, Research Assistant Damla Karaman from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, PhD Alper Açık from Özyeğin University, Assoc. Professor Yasemin Özgün from Anadolu University, Assoc. Professor Eylem Kılıç Oğurlu from Van Yüzüncüyıl University, Assist. Professor Fatma Işık Gürleyen from Izmir Economy University, Research Assistant Sinem Önem from Hacettepe University and Uğur Çetin) on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 are resulted in acquittal as a preceding judgment of the court on September 10, 2019. Thus the cases against 16 academicians on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 are resulted in acquittal.

The case against Assist. Professor Eylem Çamuroğlu Çığ from Mersin University is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 on September 10, 2019. The court acquitted Eylem Çamuroğlu Çığ.

(09/116) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The case against Diyarbakır co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, who was suspended and replaced by an appointed trustee, on the grounds of his activities within Democratic Society Congress (DTK), is held on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on September 10, 2019. The indictment demands jail sentence up to 15 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court decided to continue ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to December 25, 2019.  

(09/117) The Case Against Writer Fikret Başkaya…

The case against writer Fikret Başkaya, for his article “Actual Terror is State’s Terror” which was published on Özgür Üniversite website on November 7, 2016, is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 21 on September 10, 2019.

The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for Fikret Başkaya on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The prosecutor also demanded an official complaint against Fikret Başkaya according to Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code.

The court adjourned the trial to November 22, 2019.

The case against Barış Polat from Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, is held at Antep Heavy Penal Court No 7 on September 10, 2019. The prosecutor declared the legal opinion on the case and demanded sentenced for Barış Polat. The court adjourned the trial to January 7, 2010.

(09/119) Person on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’…

The case against actor Mehmet Aslan, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ on social media posts, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on September 10, 2019. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

(09/120) Constitutional Court Decision on Journalist Erdal İmrek…

On September 10, 2019, Constitutional Court concluded on individual appeal of journalist Erdal İmrek who was subjected to physical violence of the police while he was reporting on a protest at Taksim, Istanbul for the first anniversary of Gezi Park protests on May 31, 2014. The court decided that Erdal İmrek should be paid a compensation of 27.500 Turkish Liras as immaterial damages since his right to be treated in dignity and freedom of press was violated. The court also decided to send the verdict to Istanbul Administrative Court No 2 and Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office for re-trial.

On September 10, 2019, 39 people are detained for using ByLock in Ankara; and a former military member is detained in Eskişehir.

On September 10, 2019, a detention warrant is issued for 53 people including 50 military members on active duty, through an Ankara based investigation on Gendarmerie Command personnel.

On September 10, 2019, a detention warrant is issued for 53 people including military members on active duty, through a Konya based investigation. 10 of them are detained in operations covering 28 cities.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on September 10, 2019 and lifted the curfew as of 08.00 on September 10, 2019, on Elmabahçe rural neighbourhood of Artuklu district which was announced as of 14.30 on September 9, 2019 until a further notice.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on September 10, 2019 and lifted the curfew as of 08.00 on September 10, 2019, on Büyükkardeş and Küçükkardeş rural neighbourhoods of Nusaybin district which was announced as of 14.00 on September 7, 2019 until a further notice.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on September 10, 2019 and lifted the curfew as of 08.00 on September 10, 2019, on Sulakdere and Duygulu rural neighbourhoods of Ömerli district which was announced as of 14.00 on September 7, 2019 until a further notice.

(09/125) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on September 10, 2019 and announced that all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of September 11, 2019. All events are banned in Van since November 21, 2016, which makes a continuous ban for 1023 days in total.
