(06/022) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 2 soldiers died and 6 soldiers got wounded due to roll-over of a military vehicle for an unknown reason in rural areas of Pervari district of Siirt on June 1, 2020.

(06/023) Person Died in Ankara…

It is claimed in the news coverage of June 1, 2020 that, a person named Barış Çakan was assaulted by 3 people for he listens Kurdish music, on May 31, 2020 in Etimesgut district of Ankara. Barış Çakan, who was heavily wounded at heart, died in hospital.

Ankara Governorate made a declaration on the same day and stated the following: “The incident did not occur because of intervention of the suspect to the victim and his friend fort hey listen Kurdish music, as it was claimed; but on the contrary it did start with the warning of the victim and his friend to the suspects for not listening music loudly in their car during sounds of prayer calls”.

3 people (K. Y., A. B. and Ö. Y.) who were detained in relation to killing of Barış Çakan, are arrested by the court on June 1, 2020.

(06/024) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Diyarbakır…

Diyarbakır Security of Directorate made a declaration on June 1, 2020, about allegations of torture and ill-treatment at Diyarbakır Police Headquarters against 3 people (M. E. C., M. A., and F. A.) who were detained in relation to killing of a police officer in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, and stated the following: “M. E. C., the perpetrator, was captured and put in the police vehicle with handcuffs, in order to be transferred to the related judicial unit (…) Since he resisted to detailed body search which was to be conducted for the security of his own and the officers, his clothes were taken off by using proportional force. (…) The photographs shared by some social media accounts is taken during body search, and administrative investigation is initiated on the issue as soon as it was remarked”.

Remziye Tosun, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP submitted a parliamentary question addressing Vide President Fuat Oktay.

(06/025) People Were Threatened Under Custody in Adana…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 1, 2020 that 2 people (Ulaş Can and Taylan Arguş) who were detained for participating the commemoration for İbrahim Kaypakkaya in Seyhan district of Adana, were threatened as “Be careful about your acts. You will not be able to leave here so easy next time”, at Anti-Terror Department of Adana Police Directorate.

It is reported that 2 people were released after statement procedures.

(06/026) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the commemoration for Ethem Sarısülük, who has lost his life during Gezi Park protests; at Güvenpark in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 1, 2020 and detained 21 people by using physical violence.

Detained people are released on the same day after statement procedures.

(06/027) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1301 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 1, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/028) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On May 28, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/029) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protest in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on June 1, 2020, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained forced Mahmut Konuk away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/030) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the press declaration at Abdullah Cömert Park in Samandağ district of Hatay on June 1, 2020, about Edibe Özçelik who had a heart attack when her house was raided by the police in Samandağ district of Hatay and who died on January 20, 2020; and detained 1 person (Ümit Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained person was released on the same day.

(06/031) Detained Person in Artvin for ‘Insulting the President’…

Dursun Ali Koyuncu, Community Houses Eastern Black Sea Region representative, who was detained on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in slogans chanted at the commemoration for Metin Lokumcu, held in Hopa district of Artvin on June 1, 2020; is released on the same day after statement procedures.

(06/032) Threats Against Hrant Dink Foundation…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 1, 2020 that another threatening message was sent to Hrant Dink foundation on May 31, 2020. Fethiye Çetin, one of the lawyers of the foundation stated the following: “The act of the suspect is not isolated or individual. The threat that we got, ‘We may turn up one night, when you least expect it’, was also used at the time of Hrant Dink murder”. Hrant Dink Foundation has made a declaration on May 29, 2020 and announced that the foundation and Hrant Dink’s wife Rakel Dink have received death threats via email on May 27 and 28, 2020. The person (H. A.) who was detained in relation to threatening messages in Selçuklu district of Konya on May 30, 2020, was arrested by the court on May 31, 2020.

(06/033) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

1 of 8 people who were detained in Şırnak is arrested by the court on June 1, 2020 and 7 people are released.

(06/034) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 23 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 827 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 1, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,563 and total number of confirmed cases is 164,769 as of June 1, 2020.

Precautions for Covid-19, except for limitations for individuals over the age of 65 and under the age of 18, are lifted as of June 1, 2020.
