The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey is looking for qualified and motivated students and/or graduates to support its research activities.
The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) is a non-governmental and independent organisation providing free of charge treatment and rehabilitation services for torture victims in its four treatment centres throughout the country. Additionally, it monitors and documents human rights violations in Turkey, undertakes research on human rights issues, and carries out trainings and other awareness raising activities.
The aim of any internship or voluntary work at HRFT is to provide knowledge of and experience in the field of human rights in Turkey, in particular on issues such as torture, ill-treatment and freedom of expression and thought.
Internships can be full-time or part-time and the length of the internship can vary between three and six months. Internships are unpaid.

The internship is open to students and/or graduates of political science, law, international relations, sociology or other related areas. Candidates should have a strong interest in human rights, especially in issues such as torture and freedom of expression. Interns are expected to work independently and conduct research as well as have the creativity to develop own ideas. Knowledge of international and human rights law is desirable.
The intern should be able to work on an academic level in English and should at least have basic Turkish language skills. Interns are encouraged to attend a Turkish language course during their internship.
Internship tasks might include:
- Research on torture-related legal and political developments and other human rights issues;
- Researching daily news on human rights violations in Turkey (English, Turkish, and other media);
- Project assistance;
- Background research for conferences;
- Translating and revising daily reports (from/to English);
- Revising and editing the website content;
- Supporting HRFT’s relations with relevant organisations in the home country.
