(03/104) Operation and Attacks in Southeast…

During the military operation following the declaration of curfew in the villages of Lice on 5 March 2017, a soldier was killed and 3 soldiers were injured.

(03/105) Dilek Doğan Case…

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 12 continued on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against police official Y.M. The defendant did not participate the hearing. In hearing, the new camera recordings of Doğan’s death were watched. The prosecutor presented the final opinion and wanted the defendant to be sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for ‘reckless killing.’  The court adjourned the hearing to 17 March 2017.

Dilek Dogan was killed during a house raid on 18 October 2015 in Sariyer, Istanbul. The indictment wanted the police official to be sentenced for ‘intentional killing.’

Following the hearing, Dogan’s brother Emrah Dogan was detained upon an arrest warrant.

(03/106) Interventions to 8 March Activities…

Police intervened on 8 March evening the march of women on Yuksel Street in Ankara. 4 women were, reportedly, detained forcibly. The names of the detainees are as follows: Gülnuhjin Dinler, Özge Tekin, Gözde Çeliksöz and Burçin Başar.

Police intervened on 8 March 2017 the 8 March activity in Izmir. 39 persons were, reportedly, detained. The detainees were released on the same day.

When the 8 March activity in Antalya was over, police intervened the participants with pressurized water.

A group of 30-40 persons attacked the 8 March activity which was organized by the students of İstanbul Bilgi University at the university campus. During this incident 1 student was, reportedly, injured. 6 persons were detained in connection with this incident.

(03/107) Journalist Detained…

Sedat Sur, reporter of ANF, was detained on 8 March 2017 at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and was released in the following hours. The reason of the detention was that he had not given his statement in a case.

(03/108) Newspaper Delivery Person Detained…

Goknur Baran, delivery person of dailies Ozgurlukcu Demokrasi and Rojeva Medya, was detained on 8 March 2017 during the 8 March activity in Van.

(03/109) Detentions and Arrests…

Güler Ozavci, the Co-Mayor of Hazro district of Diyarbakir and Kenan Ozavcı were detained on 8 March 2017 during a house raid.

21 persons were detained on 8 March 2017 in Van during house raids. The names of the detainees that could be reached are as follows: Kerem Işık, Süleyman Aba, Alaattin Kurt, Selim Yorgun, Lokman Kaval, Mehmet Umar, Nadir Adar.

Peace mother Havva Kiran was detained on 8 March 2017 in Diyarbakir.

HDP Co-chair for Sakarya province was detained on 8 March 2017 for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’

A person named A.S. was detained on 8 March 2017 in connection with the bomb attacked in Adana on 24 November 2016 in which 2 persons had lost their lives.

(03/110) Students Detained in Ankara…

11 university students from Ankara University were detained on 8 March 2017 in connection with a fight at the university campus in 2015. Names of the detainees are as follows: Hasan Koç, Ali Can Süt, Yusuf Şirin, Mert Şahin Aykanat, Ulaşcan Kurt, Özgür Yaldız, Emrah Bakır, Gürkan Demirtaş, Hilal Zambakçı, Barış Barışık, Erdem Yinanç.

(03/111) Detentions and Arrests in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

17 persons who were detained on 2 March 2017 in Eskisehir were brought to court on 8 March 2017. 15 of them were arrested for ‘being a member of an illegal organization.’

31 persons from Eskisehir Anadolu University, including professors, were detained 8 March 20147 for using ‘ByLock.’

104 persons, including academics from Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, were detained on 8 March 2017 in a Hatay centered police operation.

23 persons were detained on 8 March 2017 in an Adana centered police operation.

1 teacher and 1 police official were arrested on 8 March 2017 in Tunceli.

(03/112) HDP MPs on Trial…

Diyarbakır Criminal Court of First Instance No 12 accepted the indictment which was prepared by Diyarbakir Public Prosecutor’s Office against HDP Diyarbakir MPs Idris Baluken, Caglar Demirel and Imam Tascıer. The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for ‘insulting the Head of State’, ‘insulting Turkish nation, Turkish Republic and Turkish Grand National Assembly publicly.’

Sırnak Heavy Penal Court No 2 continued on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against HDP Sırnak MP Ferhat Encu. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for ‘being a member of an illegal organization.’ Encu participated the hearing via SEGBIS from Kandıra F Type Prison. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to 21 April 2017.

Tunceli Heavy penal Court continued on 8 March 2017 hearing 2 separate cases against former HDP Tunceli MP and former Co-Mayor of Tunceli Edibe Sahin. The indictments want the defendant to be sentenced for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’ Sahin participated the hearing via SEGBIS from Kandira Prison. After the defenses, the court joined the 2 cases and adjourned the hearing to 10 April 2017.

(03/113) Izmir Peace Block Case…

Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 2 continued on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against 8 members of Peace Block. The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’ because they had attended a meeting protesting the killings during the curfew in Cizre. After the defenses the court judged that the indictment is deficient and it should be rewritten. The hearing is adjourned to 17 May 2017.

(03/114) Persons on Trial in Tunceli…

Tunceli Heavy Penal Court started on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against 12 persons, including CO-Mayors of Tunceli. The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’ After the defenses, the court released 5 defendants to be tried without a remand and adjourned the hearing. The defendants had been detained and later arrested for protesting the arrest of HDP CO-Chairs.

(03/115) Persons on Trial in Zonguldak for ‘insulting the Head of State’…

Zonguldak Penal Court of First Instance continued on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against 9 persons, including Zühal Engiz, former chair of BES (Union of Office Employees) Zonguldak Branch, former executive of Haber-Sen Zonguldak Branch. The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for ‘insulting the Head of State’ in a public statement about 10 October Ankara Massacre. After the defenses, court acquitted a defendant and sentenced 8 defendants to imprisonments between 11 months and 1 year and 11 months. The court deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(03/116) Journalist on Trial…

Cizre Heavy Penal Court No 1 continued on 8 March 2017 hearing the case against Nedim Oruc, reporter of DİHA which was closed down by a Decree with the Force of Law. After the defenses the court acquitted Oruc.

(03/117) Constitutional Referendum…

4 members of House of People were detained while campaigning for “No.” They were released after they had received an administrative fine.

Umit Ozdag and Yusuf Halacoglu were attacked on 8 March 2017 in Silifke, where they would deliver a speech about the referendum, by a group shouting “Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Movement.” Sinan Ogan had been also attacked by a group during his speech at Bahcesehir University.

(03/118) Trustee Appointed to Municipality…

On 8 March 2017, Ministry of Interior appointed Kürsad Atak, sub-governor of Egil, as a trustee to Egil District Municipality in Diyarbakır province.

The total number of trustees appointed to municipalities reached 86.
