(03/087) Curfew in the Villages of Lice…

According to the news appeared in the press, during the military operation following the curfew which was declared on 5 March 2017 in the villages of Lice, phone lines were cut, houses were raided, and persons in the villages were not let out. 28 search points were established in the region.

A delegation of DTK, TJA, HDP and DBP was not let in the region.

(03/088) Torture and other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

According to the news appeared in the press, Hanife Aslan, who came Izmir Sakran Prison to visit Hatice Aslan, was beaten and insulted at the entrance of the prison by the prison guards. Hanife Aslan is, reportedly, pregnant.

According to the news appeared in the press, prisoners in Tekirdag F Type Prisopn No 2 were beaten by a group of guards called A Team. The books which were sent to prisoners are not given to them. Social and cultural rights of the prisoners are denied by the prison administration.

According to the news appeared in the press, administration of  Tarsus C Type Prison does not give the prisoner named Dilan Ekin the steel corset which she has to wear due to the fracture in her backbone.

(03/089) Hunger Strike in Prison…

According to the news appeared in press on 7 March 2017, 4 prisoners in Menemen T Type Prison started a hunger strike. Their demands are an end to the isolation on Abdullah Öcalan and an end to the right violations in the prisons.

(03/090) Person not Released although her Sentence is Over…

According to the news appeared in press on 7 March 2017, Eylem Mengütay was not released from Bakirkoy Woman Prison due to disciplinary penalties, although her 3 years, 1 month and 15 days sentence is over

According to the news appeared in press on 7 March 2017, Aram Serhat was detained on 3 March 2017 because of the songs he sang in his concert.

(03/092) Detentions and Arrests…

23 persons who were detained during Women’s Day activities in Urfa were brought to court on 7 March 2017. Yasemin Kılıç, DBP Co-Chair for Urfa, was arrested for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’

22 persons were detained in Siverek district of Urfa for their social media shares. Detainees are taken to Siverek Police Headquarter.

 HDP executive for Corlu district Sedat Karaagac was detained on 7 March 12017 by gendarme for his social media shares. Karagac was taken to Corlu Gendarme Headquarter.

Sukru Duman and Medine Duman were detained on 7 March 2017 in İpekyolu district of Van during house raids.

HDP Co-Chair for Antep province was detained on 3 March 2017. He was brought to court on 7 March 20147 and was arrested.

Private Security units intervened when members of Revolutionary Party made a public statement on 7 March 2017 in front of Istanbul Office of Mufti. Ceren Taskopru, Sevinc Atay, Canan Iskan and Tutuku Sönmez (a reporter of the newspaper Umut) was detained. They demanded the body of Muzaffer Kandemir to be given to his family. Kandemir had been killed in Syria and his body is being waited at the border.

(03/093) Protest of Public Employees Intervened in Istanbul…

The police intervened on 7 March 2017 the sit down protest of public employees Nazife Onay and Emre Unlu, who were expelled by a Decree with the Force of Law. Onay and Unlu were detained.

(03/094) Person Arrested for ‘Insulting the Head of State’…

A.B. was detained while walking for ‘insulting the Head of State.’ B. was brought to court on the same day and was arrested.

(03/095) Detentions and Arrests in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

18 soldiers, including a colonel and a captain, were brought to court on 7 March 2017. 17 of them were arrested.

18 persons who are being tried without remand were detained and arrested again upon the appeal of Usak Head Prosecutor’s Office.

8 persons were brought to court on 7 March 2017. 6 of them were released with a judicial control condition. 2 of them were arrested for ‘being a member of an illegal organization.’

Ilhan Toprak, the reporter of Anadolu Agency for the Head of State, was detained on 7 March 2017.

17 police officials, who were expelled by a Decree with the Force of Law, were brought to court on 7 March 2017. 7 police officials were arrested. 10 of them were released with a judicial control condition.

(03/096) Police Official on Trial for ‘Torturing’…

Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 1 continued on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against police officials Osman D., Hasan K., Beyazıt D. and Omer Faruk K. The police officials are on trial for torturing a child named (D.O.) at Siteler police station in Akdeniz district of Mersin.  D.O. testified at the hearing. The court decided to wait for the report of social service consultant and adjourned the hearing to 9 May 2017.

(03/097) HDP MPs on Trial…

Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 7 continued on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against Co-Chair for HDP Selahattin Demirtaş. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for ‘insulting the government’ in a speech he had delivered on 9 September 2015 in Diyarbakır. Demirtas participated the hearing via SEGBİS from Edirne F Type Prison. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to 22 June 2017.

Siirt Penal Court of Fırst Instance No 2 continued on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against Co-Chair for HDP Selahattin Demirtaş, HDP Diyarbakir MP Nursel Aydoğan and HDP Istanbul MP Pervin Buldan. The indictment wants the defendants to be sentenced for participating a march in Siirt. Demirtaş and Aydogan did not participate the hearing. After the defenses of the lawyers, the court adjourned the hearing to 20 April 2017.

Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 6 continued on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against HDP Istanbul MP Filiz Kerestecioglu. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations. Kerestecioglu did not participate the hearing. The Court adjourned the hearing to 11 July 2017.

(03/098) Daily Ozgur Gundem Cases …

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 started on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against journalist Nadire Mater. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ and ‘printing the documents of an illegal organization.’ The defendant was chief editors on duty of daily Ozgur Gundem. After the final defenses the court sentenced Mater 1 year and 3 month’s imprisonment for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ and fined her 6,000 TL for ‘printing the documents of an illegal organization.’

 Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 started on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against journalist and writer Hasan Cemal. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ and ‘printing the documents of an illegal organization.’ The defendant was chief editors on duty of daily Ozgur Gundem. After the final defenses the court acquitted him for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ and fined him 6,000 TL for ‘printing the documents of an illegal organization.’

(03/099) Journalists on Trial…

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 continued on 7 March 2017 the hearing the case against Mehmet Ali Genc, former editor in chief of weekly Atilim and Arzu Demir, Vahap Biçici, Ozan Horoz and lawyer Sezin Uçar. After the final defenses, the court acquitted Ucar, sentenced Horoz 1 year and 3 months’ imprisonment for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization.’ The court joined the cases of Genc, Demir and Bicici with Atilim main trial.

(03/100) Journalist Ahmet Altan on Trial…

Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 21 continued on 7 March 2017 hearing the case against journalist Ahmet Hakan. The indictment wants the defendant to be sentenced for ‘insulting the Head of State.’ Altan participated the hearing via SEGBİS. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing.

(03/101) Constitutional Referendum…

A woman named Pınar Akyıldırım, while passing by a “Yes” stand, was beaten by the persons at the stand when she said “They are detaining the ones who are saying ‘No.’”

(03/102) Raided Municipality Premise…

The police raided the premise of Egil Municipality on 7 March 2017 and search the premise.

(03/103) Operations and Attacks in the Southeast…

Governorate of Erzincan announced that a military operation had taken place in Kemah district between 3 March 2017 and 5 March 2017.

Turkish Air Forces bombed Kandil region on 6 March 2017.

PKK militants attacked a military unit which was making road between Sivri Hill and Leylek Hill in Semdinli district of Hakkari.
