(07/049) 2 Civilians Died in Diyarbakır…

Dead bodies of Remzi Güler (48) and his son Mahmut Güler (26) from whom there were no news received for a week, are found near Yalımlı village of Diyarbakır’s Lice district on July 5, 2018. Remzi Güler and Mahmut Güler have been shot in the head. Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration and stated that a note indicating that it was done by PKK, is found near 2 people.

(07/050) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of July 5, 2018 that forest fires started at 10 different points between Abalı Gendarmerie Station in Lice district of Diyarbakır and Tapantepe Gendarmerie Station in Genç district of Bingöl; and that security forces prevented villagers to fight the fire.

(07/051) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of July 4, 2018 that İsmail Yıldız, a prisoner from Elazığ T Type Prison was prevented from visit and phone call rights as well as from delivering the posts sent to him, because he rejected carrying the ID card out of wards.

It is stated in the same news report that 28 people are staying in wards for 15 people in Elazığ T Type Prison.

(07/052) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 5, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 4, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Gülnaz Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Acun Karadağ, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Deniz Yılmaz) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 5, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(07/053) Person Deported from Norway and Extradited to Turkey…

It is learned from news coverage of July 5, 2018 that, Gülizar Taşdemir, who was deported by Norway after her political asylum request was rejected, is extradited to Turkey. It is learned that Gülizar Taşdemir was detained in Istanbul Atatürk Airport and was taken to Istanbul Police Headquarters.

(07/054) People Detained in Cizre…

It is learned that 20 people including Kasım Yiğit, Cizre co-chair of MEYA-DER (Mesopotamia Fraternity and Solidarity Association of Missing People’s Families) which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, are detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak.

(07/055) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 5 academicians (Professor Fulya Atacan and Assist. Professor Burak Ülman from Yıldız Technical University, research assistants Seçil Doğuç and Burcu Konakçı from Galatasaray University and Professor Rukiye Nurten Ömeroğlu from Istanbul University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on July 5, 2018. After declarations the court adjourned 1 trial to January 8, 2019, 1 trail to January 31, 2019, 2 trials to February 7, 2018 and 1 trial to February 12, 2018.

The separate cases against 2 academicians (Assoc. Professor Deniz Parlak from Altınbaş University and PhD Dilşa Deniz, dismissed from Nişantaşı University) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 are held on July 5, 2018. After declarations the court adjourned the trials to November 7, 2018.

(07/056) HDK Co-Spokesperson on Trial…

The case against Professor Onur Hamzaoğlu, co-spokesperson of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK), for ‘publicly insulting state organs and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey’ in a speech, on Adana Penal Court of First Instance No 25 is held on July 5, 2018. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to November 15, 2018.

(07/057) DTK Executive on Trial…

The case against Selim Sadak, co-presidency council member of Democratic Society Congress (DTK), for ‘leading an illegal organisation’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 is held on July 5, 2018. Selim Sadak and his lawyer did not attend the trial on excuse. The court adjourned the trial to December 2018.

(07/058) People on Trial in Antep…

The final trial of the case against 19 people, for shouting slogans in front of Antep Forensic Medicine Institution, where funerals of 20 people who died during curfews in Cizre were taken, on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 8 is held on July 5, 2018. The court acquitted 19 people.

(07/059) Trials for Reactions to Afrin Operation…

The case against Mehmet Türkmen, deputy of Labour Party (EMEP), for his social media posts on Turkish Armed Forces’ operation to Afrin, on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 8 is held on July 5, 2018. After defence hearings the court lifted home detention condition for Mehmet Türkmen and adjourned the trial.

(07/060) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On July 5, 2018, 1 person is detained on a warrant in Eskişehir.

10 of 20 military members, including 18 military members on active duty and 2 dismissed personnel, who were detained through a Manisa based investigation, are arrested by the court on July 5, 2018. It is reported that 3 people are released on juridical control conditions and 7 people are still under custody.

It is learned that 1 person for whom a detention warrant was issued through an investigation on leakage of Public Personnel Selection Examination questions in 2010, was detained in Kırşehir on July 5, 2018 and was arrested by the court the same day.

6 of 19 people who were detained through an İzmir based investigation are arrested by the court on July 5, 2018. Ali Rıza Doğanata, one of the holders of Izmir University and Fatih Private High School which were closed down by the state of emergency decree is among 6 people arrested. It is learned that 7 people are released on juridical control conditions and 6 people are still under custody.

(07/061) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 1 person named Halil İbrahim Haliloğlu, for “being confidential imam of sergeants in Tokat” on Tokat Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on July 5, 2018. The court sentenced the defendant to 11 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(07/062) The Number of People with Ankle Monitors…

It is learned from news coverage of July 5, 2018 that the number of people with ankle monitors is 2.341, including 412 people who were investigated and prosecuted through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Set-up” and were released on juridical control conditions.

(07/063) Special Security Area in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on July 5, 2018 and announced that 30 areas with given coordinates in central, Çukurca, Şemdinli and Yüksekova districts of Hakkari are special security areas between July 8 and July 22, 2018.

(07/064) Labor Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 149 workers including 9 women, 6 children and 6 immigrants, died while working in June. According to ISIG data at least 907 workers died within the first 6 months of the year due to labour killings.
