(08/021) Extra-judicial Execution in Şırnak…

On 7 August 2015, the police intervened the crowd who entrenched the roads in Silopi district of Şırnak to protest in the recent operations. When the residents of the quarter protested and resisted the intervention, the police opened fire against the civilians. Snipers also involved the police attack against the quarter; Hamdin Ulaş (58) and Mehmet Hıdır Tanboğa (17) were shot to death. At least 15 persons were reportedly wounded during the attack. The groups who allegedly caused the police attack also attacked the security forces. 9 police officers including a heavy one were wounded.

Eyewitnesses declared that Hıdır Tanboğa was shot by a sniper and wounded. He died for being shot at heart in a vehicle when the vehicle was opened fire while being taken to the hospital.

Süleyman Alyanak and Salih Ataman were wounded on 6 August 2015 in Cizre district of Şırnak when police officers opened random fire during patrol.

(08/023) Operations and Attacks in the Southeast…

According to the official announcement, one militant died, 2 militants were wounded during an armed clash that broke out on 5 August 2015 nearby Amanos Mountain in Hatay.

The driver Sahip Akıl (31) died when a mine exploded during the passage of a civilian vehicle on 6 August 2015 on Cizre district of Şırnak.

Governorate of Kars announced on 4 August 2015 that rural areas in Kağızman and Sarıkamış districts in the provinces were decided to be military security zones for 15 days starting from 5 August 2015. Entrance of civilians to the military security zones was also banned.

Governorate of Şanlıurfa announced on 6 August 2015 that 3 regions in Akçakale district on Syrian border were decided to be military security zones for 15 days starting from 6 August 2015. Entrance of civilians to the military security zones was also banned.

Bebleşin Gendarmerie Station in Başkale district of Van was attacked on 6 August 2015 with a bomb vehicle. The militant driving the vehicle reportedly died, 4 civilians were wounded during attack.

Government Office, Security Directorate and Gendarmerie Command in Uludere district of Şırnak were attacked on 6 August 2015 with rocket launchers and long barrelled weapons. One civilian was wounded during the attack.

2 police officers were wounded when being opened fire on 7 August 2015 in Czire district of Şırnak during on scene investigation of a closed road allegation.

A militant reportedly died when a mine exploded during planting the mine on a road on 6 August in Hakkari.

(08/024) Armed Attack in İstanbul…

Zeynal Odabaş, Chairperson of Pir Sultan Abdal Djemevi Association was organised an armed attack on 6 August 2015 in İstanbul after being followed by 3 vehicles for a while on his way from djemevi to home.

After the attack, Zeynel Odabaş met his family and changed his vehicle. But their vehicle was attacked again. No casualties were reported, but attacks caused material damage.

(08/025) Torture and Ill-treatment in Şanlıurfa…

3 persons who were detained after the assassination of 2 police officers in their house in Ceylanpınar district of Şanlıurfa were allegedly subjected to torture in custody.

M.N.Y. (21) testified to the effect that they were detained on 22 July 2015. They were kept in separate rooms, he was handcuffed by a police officer in plain clothes, and taken to Forensic Institute for examination, but the physician examined him in the police vehicle. He added that he was forced to lie on the ground of the vehicle afterwards and taken to an empty area on the way between Viranşehir and Şanlıurfa where a sack was put over his head and he was threatened to death with a knife.

(08/026) Torture and Ill-treatment in Custody in İstanbul…

According to the news appeared in the press on 6 August 2015, Yusuf Çetin, a member of the music group Koma Zap, was detained under beatings by police officers in plain clothes when s/he was making music on İstikal Avenue in Beyoğlu district of İstanbul. The police officers allegedly said they would not allow terrorists to make music and also burnt TL 600 found in the pocket of Yusuf Çetin.

Yusuf Çetin made a public statement in connection with the incident and stressed that he was beaten in the police vehicle for a while. Afterwards he was taken to hospital for examination, but threatened not to talk about to beatings.

(08/027) Condition in Prisons…

According to the news appeared ib the press on 6 August 2015, the release application of Feride Arbuz incarcerated in Karataş (Adana) Women’s Prison and suffering from breast cancer was not answered by the Ministry of Justice.

(08/028) Investigations, Detentions and Arrests on the Allegations of Insulting State President…

The police conducted operations on 5 August 2015 in Ağrı and detained Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair for Central District Nevzat Ayna on the allegations of “insulting State President” by sharing a comment on facebook about Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

(08/029) Booth Attacked in İstanbul…

On 5 August 2015 in İstanbul, the police attacked the booth opened by Yıldız Technical University students in the campus of the university to inform the newcomers about the activities in the university. 12 persons were detained during the intervention.

(08/030) Operations throughout Turkey…

Chief Public Prosecutor in Diyarbakır started an operation on 5 August 2015 in connection with the corruption allegations in the construction of Kırıklar Mountain Housing Estate and wiring money to PKK. According to the official announcement, 26 persons were detained and 12 persons are wanted.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) member Ali Alpar who was detained in Manisa for possessing “Yurtsever Gençlik Dergisi (Patriotic Youth Magazine)” in his vehicle was arrested on 5 August 2015 on the allegations of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation”.

Murat Danış and Necip Alan were detained during house raids conducted on 5 August 2015 in Gevaş district of Van. Murat Danış was arrested.

HDP MP candidate for Edirne province Sedat Zımba, HDP executive for Edirne province Beşir Bekle and Baran Bekle were detained during the operations conducted in Edirne. .

The police conducted house raids in Kars and its districts and detained 16 persons including Co-Mayor of Digor district Şengül Erkmen.

52 persons were reportedly detained during the operations conducted in Yüksekova district of Hakkari.

The police raided a house in Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır and detained Nevzat Sertaç Özgen after searching the house.

The police conducted house raids in Adana against the houses of HDP executives and members. 8 persons including 3 children were detained. One person in Hakkari and one person in Varto district of Muş were also detained during the operations.

5 persons who were among 7 persons detained during operations in Mersin were arrested on 5 and 6 August 2015 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Gendarmerie soldiers conducted house raids on 6 August 2015 in Adana and detained 4 persons. Serkan Araz and Azat Araz were among the detainees were arrested the same day on the allegations of “making propaganda of an illegal organisation” and “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.

13 persons in Tekman district of Erzurum, 7 persons in İstanbul, 4 persons in Adana, 9 persons in Gaziantpe, and 13 persons in Adıyaman were detained during house raids conducted in connection with the PKK investigations.
